About the Race – The World’s Toughest Rowing Race
• The Talisker Whisky Atlantic Challenge is an annual race from La Gomera (Canary Islands) to Antigua.
• Entrants can row solo or in pairs, trios, fours or fives
• The race is 3,000 miles and rowers can expect to be on the ocean for up to 90 days
• Each team will row in excess of 1.5 million oar strokes over a race
• Rowers will row for 2 hours, and sleep for 2 hours, constantly, 24 hours a day
• All food and equipment required to complete the row must be brought onboard
• Rowers burn in excess of 5,000 calories per day
• More people have climbed Everest than rowed the Atlantic Ocean
• Over €6million has been raised for charities worldwide over the past 4 races
About the Charity – DMD, Duchenne UK & Team Felix• Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy
• Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD) is one of the most common fatal genetic disorders to affect children around the world
• Condition is terminal and death usually occurs before 30 • 1 in every 3,500 boys worldwide are affected

Children’s Trust joined forces • Duchenne UK is the UK’s leanest Duchenne research charity,
with a clear vision to fund and accelerate treatments and a cure for Duchenne Muscular Dystrophy (DMD), and to do so in a decade – TO END DUCHENNE IN TEN
• In the last 6 years Duchenne UK has raised over £10 million, with £6.5m spent on projects to date and a further £3.5m committed to accelerating research

About me• Jim Phelan, I’m 45 years old and work in IT • Born, raised and live in Manchester • No ocean rowing experience (yet!) • Dreamt of solo rowing the Atlantic Ocean for 13 years • Finally getting out of my head and into a boat to attempt the
dream • I want to show my kids (and anyone else who is interested)
that with hard work, determination and discipline you can achieve anything
• I want to help raise awareness and funds to support the fight to End Duchenne in Ten
The Boat• Rannoch R25 ocean rowing boat built
in 2018 • Completed the 2018/2019 race in 63
days • 24 foot long and self righting in the
event of capsize • Equipped with medical kit, satellite
comms and a life raft • Water maker onboard to turn salt
water into drinking water

The Plan – Funding the challenge• Seek Corporate sponsorship to help cover the cost of the
challenge (between £70-£75k)
• Any funds secured over this amount go direct to the charity
• My company – Fortis Greene Ltd – is pledging £30k towards funding the challenge
• Gold, Silver & Bronze packages to be offered, as well as equipment sponsorship
• Packages will offer varying branding options on boat, clothes, social media exposure and other items
