Rail Transport inRomania

The first railway in the Kingdom of Romania opened in 1869 and

linked Bucharest and Giurgiu. The first railway on current Romanian territory opened in

18!" #etween $ra%ita and Ba&ias in Banat" howe%er that region was under the

administration of the 'ustro()ngarian *mpire at the time.

+ince then" the Romanian railway network has #een significantly e,panded" and is

now the fourth largest in *urope #y total track length" comprising --"-98 km. $f these"

Urban Transport in Romania

Bucharest has the largest

transport network in Romania"

and one of the largest in *urope.

The Bucharest transport network

is made up of a metro network

and a surface transport network.

systems operate independently of
