TheQuissettYachtClub(QYC)JuniorSailingProgramisacceptingapplicationsforanexperiencedinstructortoleadourAdventureSailingProgram.

QYCislocatedinQuissettHarborontheEasternsideofBuzzardsBay,convenienttosailingaroundtheCapeandIslands,SouthernMAandtheNewportarea.Thetermoftheemploymentwillbe8weeksofinstruction,fromJune26–August18andapproximatelyaweekofadditionaldaysofprogramsetupandfleetbreakdown.

Theprimaryresponsibilityofthejobisworking,underthedirectionoftheQYCSailingProgramDirector,toteachtheAdventureSailingProgram’stwoclasses,including:

• Developing,planningandinstructingtheAdventureSailingProgramclasses

• Coordinatingrelevantsailingexperiencesandfieldtrips,includingtransportationifneeded

TheAdventureSailingProgramincludestwoclasses.

• AdventureIisintendedforbeginningsailorswhoaretoolargeortoooldtosailOptimistprams.Theclassteachesthefundamentalsofsailingincludingon-thewatersafety,seamanship,rigging,steering,crewing,anddocking,aswellasterminology,knottying,basicweatherawarenessandnavigation.Thefocusisonskill-buildingandfun.Bullseyesareprimarilyusedforinstruction,thoughotherboatsmaybeusedaswell.Thereisabroadrangeofstudentagesinthisclass,typicallybetween11-16years.ClassesrunMonday–Fridayfrom10:15am–12:15pm.Thisclassrunsfortwofour-weeksessions.

• AdventureIIisdesignedforexperiencedsailorswhohavemasteredtheskillstaughtinQYC’sintroductorysailingclassesandwhopreferrecreationalsailingoverracing.Thisclassisdesignedtobefunandmaximizetimeonthewater.Sailorslearnfundamentalskillsincludingmooring,anchoring,flyingaspinnaker,analyzingandreactingappropriatelytoweathersignsandpatterns,navigationandchartreading.TheclasswillincludeextendedsailstolocalharborsinBuzzardsBayandthesurroundingwaters.TheclassistaughtprimarilyinBullseyes,butmayincludeotherclubboatsaswell.Theageofstudentsinthisclassistypically13-17.ClassesrunMonday–Fridayfrom1:30pm–4:30pm.Sailorsmayenrollinthisclassforaweekatatime.

JobRequirements

Sailinginstruction,cruisingexperienceandUSSailingSmallBoatSailingInstructorLevel1Certificationarerequired.Passabackgroundcheck.CPRandFirstAidinstructiontowardCPRcertificationwillbeprovidedbyQYC.
