The Insular Region is considered by some as a geopolitical region of Colombia which comprises the areas outside the continental territories of Colombia and includes the San Andrés y Providencia Department in the Caribbean sea and the Malpelo and Gorgona Islands in the Pacific Ocean. The island is under the influence of an arid climate. The low rainfall due to the permanence of high pressures on the coast area during most of the year. The average amount of annual rainfall ranges between 250 and 1,000 mm in the Cerro El Copey. The average annual temperature is 24 to 28 º C with an average of 300 days of sunshine a year. On the islands of Coche and Cubagua elevated temperatures are recorded throughout the year, about 25, influenced by humidity, wind and topography.

The culture of this region is similar to that of neighbouring regions: the Caribbean Region and the Pacific Region. However, the culture of San Andrés y Providencia was highly influenced by its English, French and African heritage.

NIGHTLIFE
Sanandresanos dishes are made with red snapper and other fish, conch, lobster and crab. Serve with coconut, banana, cassava and coconut milk. The most famous dish is the traditional and Rondon, is a species of fish and conch stew slowly cooked in coconut milk, cassava, yams, fish and dumping, a cake made from wheat flour, as basic seasoning uses basil.
