What is Play Therapy?
Play therapy is a set of skills learned and practiced by professionals from multiple realms of mental health.
The Play Therapy Certificate program accepts applicants currently training or practicing within the fields of:

The Play Therapy Certificate program offers both a 150-hour continuing education track and a 9-hour graduate credit track that prepares mental health professionals to work with children, adolescentsandtheirfamiliesusingthemosteffectiveanddevelopmentallyappropriatetheoriesandtechniques.
Three certificate courses are designed to address the history, theories,techniquesandapplicationsofplaytherapy:
•PlayTherapyTheories&Practices •PlayTherapywithFamilies&SpecialPopulations •PlayTherapy&ExpressiveArtsTechniques
Afinalcaseconceptualizationprojectisalsorequiredforcompletion of the certificate program.
Courses can be applied toward the education requirementsnecessaryforindividualsseekingnational Registered Play Therapist credentials.
StetsonUniversityisapprovedbytheFloridaDepartmentofHealthunderFloridaStatute491tooffer continuing education for social workers, marriage and family therapists, and mental health counselors.

Play Therapy Certificate students are either currently enrolled inorhavegraduatedfromamentalhealth-relatedmaster’sordoctoral degree program.
Minimally,studentsareexpectedtohavesuccessfullycompletedgraduatelevelcourseworkintheareasofchilddevelopment,counseling theories, and basic counseling skills appropriate to their profession.
