Page 2: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

THE CELL THEORY

• All living things are composed of cells

• Cells are the basic unit of structure and function in living organisms.

• All cells come from preexisting cells

Page 3: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

NUCLEUS: control center (entering and leaving the cell)

Page 4: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Cell Membrane: allows certain things to pass in and out of the cell

Page 5: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Cell Wall- protects and supports the plant

Page 6: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Ribosomes: responsible for the synthesis of proteins within the cell

Page 7: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

VACUOLE- A space within the cell generally used

by the cell for the storage of food, water, or waste.

Page 8: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Chloroplast-uses light to make food in plant cells

Page 9: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Endoplasmic Reticulum: moves material around in the cell

Page 10: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

LYSOSOMES- recycle worn out products

Page 11: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Golgi Body: used for packaging and secreting of energy

Page 12: PLANT & ANIMAL CELLS

Mitochondria- Powerhouse of the cell-makes energy

CENTRIOLE: one of a pair of small cynlindrical cell organelles near the nucleus in

animal cells

HOW ARE THE ANIMAL CELL AND PLANT CELL DIFFERENT?

• Animal cell lacks a cell wall

• Vacuoles are different

• Only animal cells have a centriole

• Only plants have chloroplasts which contain chlorophyll
