Suggestions From Matty Maras
Materson (Matty) Maras returns this
semester as a student worker in the Library. He
is a Guam native, graduate of Tiyan High
School.
Matty is in the BA Biblical Studies program.
For several years he has served on Student
Council and is a Junior Resident Assistant in
the Men’s Dorm.
Here are his suggestions of Library resources:
Study Smarter, Not Harder by Kevin Paul. This book was used in my Research & Study Skills class, my first year at PIU. It really showed a lot of understanding about myself and making use of my time and knowledge.
60 People who Shaped the Church by Alton Gansky. I enjoy this book because it shows us the heart of how these sixty people want us to know and understand how and what the Church is for.
Parallel Bible published by Hendrickson Bibles. King James, NKJV, NIV and NLT are the four different translations used in this parallel Bible. I recommend this book for Bible study, homework, and passage study, This can give you ideas of what the passage may be meaning to you or you could understand better by the different translations.
Learning to Read by Fred Smith. Bringing out the best in people, or even your-self, is not easy. This book taught me a lot through leading, how to lead, when to lead, and what a leader’s role is like.
Fireproof [DVD]. All time favorite movie. I always had a passion to become a firefighter once I got my diploma, but things change up a little and I am here at PIU pursuing my education and searching for my purpose in life, to please and honor Christ.
Excellence—The theme for this academic year is Excellence.
We are called by God to Excellence. May we all work together to be
excellent stewards of the time and resources God has provided us.
Colossians 3:23 ESV / Whatever you do, work heartily, as for the Lord and not for men, 1 Peter 2:9 ESV / But you are a chosen race, a royal priesthood, a holy nation, a people
for his own possession, that you may proclaim the excellencies of him who called you out of darkness into his marvelous light.
