Jesus reminds us in today’s Gospel that “Man does not live on bread alone but on every
word that proceeds from the mouth of God.” Set some time aside for the annual parish
retreat so that you “hear the word of God” and allow it to form and transform you dur-
ing the season of Lent. Lent is a season of renewal and rebirth. In imitation of Jesus, we
need a quiet space, a “desert experience.”
