Dear Friends,
We had no idea this time last year
what a crazy, difficult, tragic year 2020 would turn out to be, and now as we enter the New Year, we can only hope
in faith that the coming months will bring good-ness, peace and healing.
For us who like to plan ahead and organize our lives as neatly and predictably as possible, it’s hard to accept that we don’t know
what the future holds.
I have always struggled with James 4:13-17, where we are admonished not to make plans for the future with arrogant confidence. I like making plans. I find comfort in figuring out when
to do what and what should come next. But James reminds us to be careful not to boast of our schemes and strategies. Instead, we should say, “If it is the Lord’s will.”
That is good advice and wise council. It is Biblical truth that we
should follow. It takes humility and a submissive heart to entrust our plans for the future to God’s will.
We need to embrace the hope that life will soon return to normal, trusting we will be able to resume our church and family traditions in the coming year. We need that hope; it is good for our hearts.
In another way, though, we need to remember the wisdom of James and submit our plans to God’s will. We could not have
predicted what 2020 would bring, and the same goes for 2021 and beyond. We can pray for a better year ahead.
It takes real faith to say, “If it is the Lord’s will…” and to trust that God is going to lead us through whatever comes next. So, let us
pray for a good year, for healing and peace in our nation, for God’s blessing over His church, and for His will to be done on earth as it is in heaven.
Blessings,
Fr. Dave

PRAYER FOR VOCATIONS
Good and gracious God,
You call each person by name
and invite them to follow you.
On this day we pray for Vocations. May
each person hear and respond to the call
they have received.
We pray for all discerning marriage, the
chaste single life, consecrated life, or
ordained ministries, that your Holy Spirit
would guide, inspire, and strengthen
them.
May your Church and the world be
enriched by the “yes" of your children.
Amen.
FROM THE ‘GOOD NEWS’ DEPARTMENT
Recovery Gift
Friends,
In November, I sent a letter asking you to consider making an ‘Offertory Recovery Gift’ to the parish to help recover the loss due to the
Covid Pandemic. You have exceeded my every expectation. Your generosity will go a long way to help our churches in the most
expensive time of the year.
Thus far, we have received recovery gifts from people from all of our 10 churches in the amount of $20,000.00 which is two thirds of
our deficit in Sunday Mass offertory collections this year. Thank-you, thank-you. May God bless you and your families one
hundredfold.

ACT OF SPIRITUAL COMMUNION
My Jesus, I believe that You\are present in
the Most Holy Sacrament.
I love You above all things,
and I desire to receive You into my soul.
Since I cannot at this moment receive You
sacramentally, come at least spiritually
into my heart.
I embrace You as if You were already
there
and unite myself wholly to You.
Never permit me to be separated from
You.
Amen.
