ELEVENTH SUNDAY IN ORDINARY TIME JUNE 14, 2015

Dear Parishioners, Last Sunday, which was the Feast of Corpus Christi, in-cluded our annual procession after the 11:00 Mass; it was a beautiful day and the procession worked out well, thank God. The Friday following Corpus Christi, June 12, was the Feast of the Sacred Heart of Jesus. Devotion to the Sacred Heart, is in fact devotion to our Lord Jesus Christ. This devotion to our Lord dates back to the writings of St. Bonaventure in the 1200s. Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus certainly accelerated after the visions of St. Mar-garet Mary Alacoque in the 17th century. An excellent book recounting her life and this devotion is: The Devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus by Fr. John Crosist. Central to the devotion to the Sacred Heart acknowledges that Christ loves each of us – and calls us to respond to that love, es-pecially by our coming to Christ in the Blessed Sacrament. This is the origin of the practice of going to Mass for nine consecutive First Fridays and receiving Holy Communion. Of course, going to Mass on First Fridays presumes we are also attending every Sunday. The practice of First Fridays is built upon the foundation of our Faith, which is ex-pressed on Sunday Mass, or the Vigil Saturday evening. An aspect of devotion to the Sacred Heart of Jesus is not so much knowing about Christ, but knowing Christ, in prayer and the Eucharist and trusting is his mercy, that he is there to help us. One expression to devotion to the Sa-cred Heart is to display an image of the Sacred Heart of Jesus in the kitchen of the home, that helps to evangelize our faith and also to bring peace to a home. Now in addition to Friday being the Feast of the Sacred Heart – Saturday was graduation for Most Precious Blood School eighth grade. We congratulate them on this happy day, and we hope their time at MPB has helped them to become strong disciples of Jesus Christ, in this His Catho-lic Church. Yours in the Risen Christ,

Fr. Fallon

Our parish has received $41,880.00 in pledges/gifts toward the 2015 Cardinal’s

Appeal, from 167 families. The Appeal is a vital source of funding for the programs and ministries that sustain the parishes across our archdiocese.

NEPAL RELIEF -- Cardinal Dolan sent a letter to the pastors asking the parishes to give people an opportunity to help those who have suffered through the terrible earthquake which oc-curred in Nepal several weeks ago. Catholic Relief Services is on the ground helping out. There are thousands of people in great need of help. The Cardinal didn't want to add another "second collection" so he offers this silent collection to any-one who would like to help. If you would like to assist, please make a check out to the parish and put it in an envelope marked "Nepal Relief". That way -- all the gifts are deposited and one check is sent from the parish to the chancery. You can drop the envelope in the regular basket, or drop it off at the rectory. Thank you for your help.
