ald Tjeerdsma of Springfieldwill be held at 10:30 a.m.,Wednesday,December 3,2014 at theEmmanuel Re-formedChurch inSpringfield.Burial is inthe churchcemetery,rural Spring-field.

Visitation will be at thechurch on Tuesday with fam-ily present from 6 to 7 p.m.,followed by a 7 p.m. PrayerService. Crosby-Jaeger Fu-neral Home in Springfield isin charge of arrangements.

Donald Gerrit Tjeerdsmawas born on August 4, 1930in rural Springfield, SD toGerrit and Hattie (DeRoos)Tjeerdsma. He died at AveraMcKennan Hospital in SiouxFalls, SD on November 30,2014. He attained the age of84 years and three months.

Don was baptized at theEmmanuel Reformed Churchof rural Springfield. He at-tended grade school at Lin-coln Country School andgraduated from SpringfieldHigh School and SouthernState Teacher College. Hemarried Marjorie Bierema onMay 14, 1954 at EmmanuelReformed Church and fivechildren were born the theirunion.

Don was an active mem-ber of Emmanuel ReformedChurch of Springfield wherehe served as a Deacon, Elder,Catechism teacher and sangin the church choir. Hetaught at Fairview CountrySchool for two years. Donhad a passion for farmingand enjoyed raising live-stock, selling seed corn forAsgrow/DeKalb and growingcrops for over 50 years. Healso served as a 4-H leaderwhile his kids were growingup. He was an avid sportsfollower who loved to watchsports with his children andgrandchildren. Don alsoloved to attend family sport-ing events.

Don is survived by hiswife of 60 years, Marjorie ofSpringfield; children: Virgil(Susan) Tjeerdsma of Tyn-dall, Douglas (Danae)Tjeerdsma of Aplington, IA,Percy (Connie) Tjeerdsma ofSpringfield, Marcia (Terry)Winegar of Marion, SD, Bon-nie (Chris) Blankenship ofLafayette, IN; nine grandchil-dren: Adam Tjeerdsma, ScottTjeerdsma, Kendra Kruger,Nicholas Tjeerdsma, HeatherAdkins, Mary Hunsaker,Cody Tjeerdsma, HeidiTjeerdsma and MarcusTjeerdsma; 10 great grand-children and baby Adkins onthe way. Don is also survivedby his siblings: Carol Jurrensof Avon, Duane (Linda)Tjeerdsma of Springfield,Melvin (Carol) Tjeerdsma ofMaryville, MO and Cheryl(Don) DeJong of Forney, TX.

Don was preceded indeath by his parents,brother Frank Tjeerdsma;sisters-in-law: MargieTjeerdsma and NoreneTjeerdsma; brother-in-lawEldon Jurrens and one greatgrandson Tate Krueger.

In lieu of flowers the fam-ily requests memorials besent to the Gideons or anyother nonprofit organization.

La Rena MorseLa Rena Virginia Morse,

84, of Vermillion, SD passedaway surrounded by herchildren on November 30,2014 at the Sanford Vermil-lion Hospital.

La Rena was born in Ver-milion on November 28, 1930to George and Alfreta (Mor-reau) Watson. On October31, 1952 she married AlanMorse and for over 50 yearsLa Rena worked side by sidewith her husband operatingtheir farm, livestock andmanaging Morse's Farm Mar-ket. La Rena loved flowers,flower gardens and pottingflower baskets at Morse'sMarket. Prior to retirementLa Rena also worked at USD.La Rena was an avid sportsfan cheering for the NewYork Yankees, the OaklandRaiders and Tiger Woods.Her greatest joy was sharingher life with her husbandAlan for over 50 years, rais-ing her 3 children and laterhelping to care for her 9grand children. More re-cently La Rena was able tosee 5 great grandchildrenenter her life.

La Rena is preceded indeath by her parents, herhusband Alan, two brothersand a sister.

She is survived by twosons; Mitchel (Sheri) Morse

and Lande (Diana) Morse allof Vermillion, a daughterTeresa (Horst) Jahn of St.Cloud; MN, nine grandchil-dren: Adam (Karen) MorseVermillion, Nichole (John)Reiner, Alexandria, VA, Lan-don (Lacy) Morse, Tupelo,MS, Michele (Jordon) Bor-dewyk, Rapid City, SD,Stephanie Morse, Valley City,ND, Ross (Hom) SolbergFlemming Island, FL, BreeanSolberg, Los Angeles, CA,Michael and Matthew MorseVermillion. She is also sur-vived by five great grandchil-dren: Wyatt and HunterMorse, John and JamesReiner and Alan Sukit Sol-berg, and two sisters; LeonaBuhler and Blanche Quincyand a sister in law LuellaWatson, along with manynieces and nephews.

Memorial services will be1:00 p.m. Saturday, Decem-ber 6, at the First BaptistChurch in Vermillion withburial of ashes to follow inthe Bluffview Cemetery inVermillion.

Alvin Heckel was bornJuly 8, 1925, to John andAnna (Arbeiter) Heckel atEthan, South Dakota. Hegraduated from Marion HighSchool.

On July 9, 1944, Alvinmarried Alma Schmidt onher family farm near Hurley.

On July 31, 1944, Alvinjoined the United States Ma-rine Corp in the Pacific The-atre during World War II. Hewas honorably dischargedon July 30, 1946.

Alvin attended DakotaWesleyan University wherehe received a Bachelor’s ofScience degree in education.He continued his educationat the University of SouthDakota where he received aMaster’s of Science degree ineducation from the Univer-sity of South Dakota.

Alvin was the teacher forthe Meckling School District.He then served as Principalat Wakonda and later Plank-inton. Alvin was the Superin-tendent of Schools at Menno,Tri-Valley, Sully Buttes, andAgar.

Alvin enjoyed hunting,fishing, and spending timewith his family. He likeddoing woodworking, whichlater turned into a secondcareer after retirement.

He was preceded in deathby his parents; one brother,Ellsworth Heckel; and onesister, Melba SchmidtHeckel.

Grateful for havingshared in his life are his wife,Alma of Huron; five children,Boyd (Moreen) Heckel ofHuron, Vicki (Jim) Hambletof Ramsey, Minnesota,Vaughn (Peggy) Heckel ofSpearfish, Dane Heckel ofRonan, Montana, and Debbie(Jeff) Blackledge ofStronghurst, Illinois; sevengrandchildren, John (Jonda)Heckel of Shakopee, Min-nesota, Chris (Alan) Reitherof Oakdale, Minnesota, Farah

Missouri National Recre-ational River (MNRR) is devel-oping a Property ManagementPlan (PMP) for the followingMNRR properties: Green Is-land (60 acres), Bow CreekRecreation Area (205 acres)and Mulberry Bend (31acres), located within Cedarand Dixon counties, Ne-braska.

Public comments arebeing sought on this plan,with public meetings set forthe following places andtimes:

The management plan willidentify actions for recre-ational site development, re-source management,interpretation/ education andestablish management ac-tions on certain issues, suchas access, hunting and camp-ing.

The objectives of theProperty Management Planare to:

• Involve the public in de-termining management op-portunities for MNRRproperties.

• Provide a wide range ofpublic recreational opportuni-ties and experiences for vari-ous users.

• Preserve and enhancenatural and cultural re-sources at MNRR properties.

• Encourage a connectionbetween people and the prop-erties’ natural and cultural re-sources.

The National Park Serviceannounces a 30-day publicscoping period for the Prop-erty Management Plan (PMP).During this period, the publicis invited to identify issues orconcerns they might havewith the proposed project sothat the NPS can appropri-ately consider them in the En-vironmental Assessment (EA)and planning process. Publiccomments will be acceptedthrough December 24, 2014.Once the EA and alternativesare developed it will be madeavailable for public review fora 30-day period.
