Introduction:Anticipatory Set/Mental Set: Play audio clip of Olympic ThemeObjective/Learning Outcome:General Learner ExpectationsStudents will:6–1 Design and carry out an investigation in which variables are identified and controlled, and that provides a fair test of the question being investigated.Focusask questions that lead to exploration and investigationidentify one or more possible answers to questions by stating a prediction or a hypothesisExplore and Investigateidentify one or more ways of finding answers to given questionsplan and carry out procedures that comprise a fair testwork individually or cooperatively in planning and carrying out proceduresReflect and InterpretCommunicate effectively with group members in sharing and evaluating ideas, and assessing progressrecord observations and measurements accurately, using a chart format where appropriate. Computer resources may be used for record keeping and for display and interpretation of dataEvaluate procedures used and identify possible improvementsstate an inference, based on results. The inference will identify a cause and effect relationship that is supported by observationsIdentify possible applications of what was learnedIdentify new questions that arise from what was learned.

6–5 Describe properties of air and the interactions of air with objects in flight.6–4 Demonstrate positive attitudes for the study of science and for the application of science inresponsible ways.1. Provide evidence that air takes up space and exerts pressure, and identify examples of these properties in everyday applications.

Body of Lesson/ Input:1. Students will be asked the questions: If you could make it to the Olympics

what sport would it be for and why?

2. Assign countries to students and have them create a team cheer

3. Explain to students that we will be learning who air can have effects on the athletes. Within their country group, have the students consider why this is.

4. Ask students to volunteer some of the answers that they came up with. Write their answers on the board so students can add to their own lists. (

5. Students will engage in lab stations. Modelso they know what is expected. Explain that at each station, the students will take turns doing the experiment and recording the information down for the group. Check for understanding before sending the students off to try the labs.

Note: For each student to try out the five labs, it will probably take two classes

6. Have one person from each group clean up the last station they were at

7. Next, have the students record a copy of the information into their own notes. Model an example of how to property record information on the sheet so the students know what is expected. Have students work on this

8. Next class review what the students remember from the stations

9. Finish working on good copy of information

10. Ask students which activity was their favorite and if anything surprised them

Conclusion:Closure:-Review/Summarize today’s lesson-Have each team say/sing their cheer Formative Assessment: Hand in group copy of information after the first day Summative Evaluation: students will hand in their good copies of lab at the end of second classReflective Comments/Notes:
