Leadership Tri-County Class of 2018’sOctober session was focused on the justice system in the tri-county area.

The class arrived at the Berks County Jail inLeesport to start their day. Sgt.­Acker provided atour so the class could learn what life is like on adaily basis and what programs and services areoffered to the inmates.

Next the class made a brief stop at the BerksCounty Services Center where Bonnie­ Stevensgave a tour of the courthouse.

The class enjoyed lunch at the Greater ReadingChamber of Commerce & Industry. Gail­Landis,VP of Governmental Affairs & CommunityOutreach, shared the vision of collaborative leader-ship occurring to move the region forward.

After lunch, theclass arrived at theReading Eagle. CliffPlummer, led theclass on their tour ofthe building andprovided the historyof the paper. Whileat the ReadingEagle, the class hadtheir picture takenand each personleft with a copy oftheir “front page”photograph!

To end theirday, LeadershipT r i - C o u n t ystopped at theP o t t s t o w nPolice Range for

a demonstration with MSWAT-West emergencyresponse team. As the response team was goingthrough exercises, Cpl.­Steven­Morriseyexplainedwhat was going on. The end of the demonstrationincluded showing the class equipment that is usedand let them tour the armored vehicle.

Meet the Class Ashley Faison

Ashley Faison, Advocacy/Volunteer Manager of the YWCATri-County Area, has worked in thetri-county area for 12 years. Herfamily members include Mark

Faison, Tammy Wallace, Sharron Grinnage, AaronFaison, Jason Thomas Jr. & Jason Thomas Sr. Sheenjoys mentoring youth, advocacy, serving thecommunity, and participating in Autism Speaks.Her business role model is Stacey Woodland,YWCA Tri-County Area.

Ashley received a BA in social relations with aconcentration in Criminal Justice. Her personalbusiness philosophy is to “remain true to self; con-tinuous growth; and empower, educate, andadvocate for equality, freedom, and justice for all!”

Ashley is involved in the Chamberthrough the YWCA’s partnership in theWOW programs. She believes theLeadership Program is importantbecause it provides growth in develop-ment – both personal and professional.She is looking forward to participating inthe program so she can build profession-al relationships, network, learn, andstrengthen the YWCA Tri-County Area!

Kelly KozikKelly Kozik is the Director

of Human Resources atHealthSouth ReadingRehabilitation Hospital. Shehas worked in the tri-coun-

ty area for about 2 ½ years. She is marriedto her husband Dave, and has three chil-dren: Anthony, Kevin and Andrew. Kellyenjoys many things, especially communityinvolvement/volunteering and family time.Kelly received a Bachelors in Social

Science from the University ofPennsylvania, a Master of Science inHuman Resource Management and aMaster of Business Administration -both from Holy Family University. Her top threebusiness models include Indra Nooyi, S. TruettCathy, and John Maxwell. Her personal businessphilosophy is “whatever you do, work at it withall your heart.”

Although Kelly is new to the Chamber, she isattending many events to meet other Membersand find out where she can add value. After hav-ing an awesome time at the low ropes course inSeptember, Kelly is most looking forward to thenon-profit bootcamp sessions. She believes it isimportant to participate in this program because itprovides participants with a well-rounded expo-sure to the community. She thinks this will helpparticipants gain a more inclusive mindset whenmaking leadership decisions within business andcommunity in general.
