Leadership Tri-County Class of 2018’s October session was focused on the justice system in the tri-county area. The class arrived at the Berks County Jail in Leesport to start their day. Sgt.Acker provided a tour so the class could learn what life is like on a daily basis and what programs and services are offered to the inmates. Next the class made a brief stop at the Berks County Services Center where Bonnie Stevens gave a tour of the courthouse. The class enjoyed lunch at the Greater Reading Chamber of Commerce & Industry. Gail Landis, VP of Governmental Affairs & Community Outreach, shared the vision of collaborative leader- ship occurring to move the region forward. After lunch, the class arrived at the Reading Eagle. Cliff Plummer, led the class on their tour of the building and provided the history of the paper. While at the Reading Eagle, the class had their picture taken and each person left with a copy of their “front page” photograph! To end their day, Leadership Tri-County stopped at the Pottstown Police Range for a demonstration with MSWAT-West emergency response team. As the response team was going through exercises, Cpl.StevenMorrisey explained what was going on. The end of the demonstration included showing the class equipment that is used and let them tour the armored vehicle. Meet the Class Ashley Faison Ashley Faison, Advocacy/ Volunteer Manager of the YWCA Tri-County Area, has worked in the tri-county area for 12 years. Her family members include Mark Faison, Tammy Wallace, Sharron Grinnage, Aaron Faison, Jason Thomas Jr. & Jason Thomas Sr. She enjoys mentoring youth, advocacy, serving the community, and participating in Autism Speaks. Her business role model is Stacey Woodland, YWCA Tri-County Area. Ashley received a BA in social relations with a concentration in Criminal Justice. Her personal business philosophy is to “remain true to self; con- tinuous growth; and empower, educate, and advocate for equality, freedom, and justice for all!” Ashley is involved in the Chamber through the YWCA’s partnership in the WOW programs. She believes the Leadership Program is important because it provides growth in develop- ment – both personal and professional. She is looking forward to participating in the program so she can build profession- al relationships, network, learn, and strengthen the YWCA Tri-County Area! Kelly Kozik Kelly Kozik is the Director of Human Resources at HealthSouth Reading Rehabilitation Hospital. She has worked in the tri-coun- ty area for about 2 ½ years. She is married to her husband Dave, and has three chil- dren: Anthony, Kevin and Andrew. Kelly enjoys many things, especially community involvement/volunteering and family time. Kelly received a Bachelors in Social Science from the University of Pennsylvania, a Master of Science in Human Resource Management and a Master of Business Administration - both from Holy Family University. Her top three business models include Indra Nooyi, S. Truett Cathy, and John Maxwell. Her personal business philosophy is “whatever you do, work at it with all your heart.” Although Kelly is new to the Chamber, she is attending many events to meet other Members and find out where she can add value. After hav- ing an awesome time at the low ropes course in September, Kelly is most looking forward to the non-profit bootcamp sessions. She believes it is important to participate in this program because it provides participants with a well-rounded expo- sure to the community. She thinks this will help participants gain a more inclusive mindset when making leadership decisions within business and community in general. The Class of 2018 outside of the Berks County Jail.
