Last Sunday, our parish hosted “An Evening of Saints and Holy Souls: Halloween from a Catholic Perspective.” Participants gathered in the church where they learned about the origins of All Saints’ and All Souls’, and about the many ancient practices form various cultures that developed as part of our Faith’s celebration of the Liturgical year.
They then had the opportunity to take an up close look at our Parish’s collection of relics of particular Saints. Next, all moved to Holy Rosary Cemetery in a candle light procession, where a brief presentation was given on the origins of that cemetery, and finally Deacon Kabacinski led the concluding prayers for the departed.
Here are some scenes from this beautiful evening. This presentation was sponsored by the Word Committee
and led by David Tighe and Deacon André Kabacinski. Our parish thanks all who were involved in this prayerful and informative event.
Questions for personal reflection based on this Sunday’s Readings…
The Greatest Commandment
[The scribe] asked him, “Which
commandment is the first of all?”
Jesus answered, “The first is,
‘Hear, O Israel: the Lord our
God, the Lord is one; you shall
love the Lord your God with all
your heart, and with all your
soul, and with all your mind, and
with all your strength.’” (Mark 12:28-30)
Why is love of neighbor as
important as love of God?
When do you show that you love
God and your neighbor with
your whole heart?
