Freezie Fun Days are Back!
On Friday, April 26th, 25 students took part in the Forest of Reading Literacy Conference at Scotiabank Centre in Niagara Falls. It was a culminating event that celebrated a commitment from the students to read a number of non-fiction and fiction books of varying genres over the course of several months. There were amazing workshops including lacrosse, fencing, origami, break out box, and the ever popular therapy dogs to name a few. Students came away with memory
boxes, bat and bird houses, slime, and a terrarium. Whole group sessions included inspirational talks
from authors and energizing activities. Also exciting for students were the photobooths where pics were printed immediately, as well as opportunities to purchase books that could actually be signed by the author! We thank Mrs.vanK for her dedication to the club and her hand in the awesome
planning, plus a shout out to our drivers and chaperones (Mrs.Barnett and Mrs.Gobbi) An amaz-
ing day was enjoyed by all students who are already looking forward to next year!
Jr. Boys Basketball
It was a season of close calls, team challenges, improvement in skill, and development of position. The boys worked
hard, attended practice after practice and worked on plays that sometimes worked and sometimes didn't! They should be proud of their sportsmanship and how they represented Glendale both in and outside of our school. It has been frustrating at times, but eventually the Cinderella team will prevail!! Thanks to all parents who drove when we
needed to get to other gyms, it is much appreciated. Here's looking forward to next year!
Badminton
Hey Glendale Families!!! It’s time for our annual Make Change for Kids Classroom Challenge for the nonprofit group Education Foundation of Niagara ([email protected]).
EFN is an organization operating within the District School Board of Niagara that helps to provide needed funds and resources, for DSBN students, where government funding is not available. Donations help to create a community where every student has access to all of the enriching opportuni-ties that school life offers by:
• providing support to students in financial need for basic necessities and extra-curricular activi ties (shoes, winter clothing, food, medical needs, glasses, other basic necessities) • providing annual student awards and bursaries • supporting progressive programs and services in our schools that enrich students’ educational experiences (field trips, in-school programs, arts programs) • providing innovative community initiatives (prom project, swim to survive)
All of EFN’s programs and initiatives rely solely on individual and community donations. 100% of funds raised go directly to help DSBN students.
Each Glendale class is challenged to bring in donations between April 29 and May 3 The 3 classes with the most mon-ey in their jars will choose from 3 exciting prizes:
1. Mini frosty for everyone in the class 2. 2 periods for games or a movie (class choice) 3. 1 extra period of recess or gym (class choice)
