Educator ShowcasesThe Discovery Centre hosts three free access events throughout the year to provide provincial educators withan opportunity to network, learn, and discover.

Educators will be able to experience our 40,000 sq ft. facility with 200+ hands-on exhibits, educational workshops, Dome Theatre demos, our new Ocean Gallery, the Michelin Corporate Foundation Innovation Lab, and Featured Exhibit.

These events are available to educators from Primary to Grade 12 and school administrative staff. Showcases will give an overview of what the Discovery Centre offers and how we can support educators in implementing STEAM concepts in the classroom.

Immersive Dome TheatreMarvel at the wonders of the world and beyond in our Immersive Dome Theatre. With Live Star Shows and Full Dome Films, you can explore the vastness of space, discover the ancient remnants of stars, or have the best seats to a spectacular meteor shower.

Add a bonus educational experience to your Centre visit with one of our spectacular Full Dome Films. These 20-30 minute screenings are guaranteed to amaze viewers as full motion images fly overhead and around you.

Enjoy a curriculum-connected tour through the cosmos led by our Dome Theatre Presenter!

Join us as we look up at the Halifax sky and discover what’s out in space and why the night is so dark. Prepare for take-off as we go on a 20 minute adventure to explore twinkling stars and our favourite neighbour, the Moon!

To Every Season

Explore the changes happening all around you, as the sun goes down and the stars come out! Join us as we find patterns in the sky, learn about what creates a day and the seasons, and how these cycles affect other living things and our environment.

Space Case

Settle in as we investigate how the Earth’s position and motion in space drives our daily, seasonal and lunar cycles. We’ll also consider humanity’s deep historical and cultural connections with the stars, the planets and the Moon. 

Beyond the Solar System

Have you ever wondered how our Solar System formed? Or why stars are so hot? What lies beyond the Earth and our cosmic neighbourhood? Join us as we boldly go through space in search of the answers to these cosmic questions!

This Science Educator-led presentation can engage all ages, from primary students to members of the Royal Astronomy Society of Canada, with content customized to curriculum and group interests.
