Put enough water in your bowl to coverthe bottom. If you have food dye, mix itwith the water. Add a lot of pepper to thewater. Take note of how the pepper covers all ofthe surface of the water. Now dip a cottontip into dishwashing liquid, then dip intothe middle of the water. What happens to the pepper? Adding thedishwashing liquid changes the watertension. The water pulls away from thedishwashing liquid. This makes it look likethe pepper is running away from thedishwashing liquid. The pepper goes fromcovering the surface of the water, tomaking a ring around the edge of thewater.
