LET’S GET IT GOING: The Dodgers tonight begin the unofficial
second half of the season with the first contest of a nine-game road trip
and three-game series with the Arizona Diamondbacks. Los Angeles is
4-2 against Arizona this season and took two of three at Chase Field June
13-15. The Dodgers are 6.5 games behind the Giants in the NL West,
but lead the National League Wild Card by 2.5 games over the Mets and
Marlins. Following this series, the club has a day off in Washington,
D.C., before playing three against the Nationals Tuesday-Thursday and
the St. Louis Cardinals Friday-Sunday.
Since the start of 2013, the Dodgers own the best record in
baseball after the All-Star break:
Best Post All-Star Records, 2013-15, MLB
W-L PCT.
Dodgers 126-79 .615
Royals 127-87 .593
Cardinals 122-86 .587
Pirates 122-88 .581
The Dodgers have gone 32-12 (.727) against Arizona since the
start of the 2014 season, the best record by any team against a
divisional foe in that span – Source: Stats, LLC.
The Dodgers are a season-high tying 11 games over .500, 7-3
in July and 18-8 since June 14, which ties the club with the
Astros (18-6) and Giants (18-7) for the most wins in baseball
over that time.
BEST IN SHOW: The Dodger bullpen is coming off a 10-game
homestand in which they posted a 1.57 ERA (8 ER/46.0 IP), while
limiting opposing hitters to a .169 batting average (27-for-160) with 55
strikeouts against 10 walks in 46.0 innings. Overall, Dodger relievers
lead the Major Leagues with a 2.83 bullpen ERA (94 ER/299.0 IP),
ahead of Kansas City’s 2.92 mark, and also top the big leagues in
opponents’ batting average (.195) and WHIP (1.02).
Kenley Jansen struck out the only batter he faced at the All-
Star Game Tuesday and has 27 saves in 30 chances this season,
tying him for second in the NL behind only Jeurys Familia’s
31 rescues. Jansen hasn’t allowed a run in his last 14 games
(14.1 IP), allowing just three hits (3-for-46, .065) and striking
out 26 against just two walks since June 14. He has tossed
scoreless relief in 37 of 40 games and also ranks among the
ML relief leaders in WHIP (0.65, 1st MLB), opponents’ batting
average (.145, 2nd MLB) and ERA (1.16, 7th).
Joe Blanton ranks among the Major League relief leaders in
opponents’ batting average (.140, 1st) and WHIP (0.74, 5th).
A DOMINANT HALF: Dodger left-hander Adam Liberatore
completed a historic first half last week by recording his 24th consecutive
scoreless appearance and establishing a Dodger franchise record
previously held by John Candelaria (23, 1991). During the streak,
which began on May 20, Liberatore has tossed 18.2 scoreless innings
and limited opposing hitters to a .086 batting average (5-for-58) with a
0.59 WHIP and 23 strikeouts against just six walks.
Overall, Liberatore leads Major League relievers with a 0.61
ERA (2 ER/29.1 IP), while ranking among the top relievers in
opponents’ batting average (.153, 5th) and WHIP (0.85, T-9th).
He’s tossed scoreless relief in 37 of 38 games this year and
has not allowed a run in his 21 home appearances (18.2 IP).
ODDS AND ENDS: During the break, the Dodgers outrighted
outfielder Will Venable to Triple-A Oklahoma City, while infielder
Cole Figueroa elected free agency after clearing outright waivers.
In addition, the Dodgers have signed three additional
selections from the 2016 draft: right-handed pitcher Chris
Mathewson out of Long Beach State (19th round), right-
hander Conor Costello out of Oklahoma State (32nd round)
and high school righty Kevin Malisheshki from Wauconda,
IL (38th round). Los Angeles has now signed 33 of its 42
selections from the 2016 draft.
SEAGER SMOOTH: Dodger rookie shortstop Corey Seager belted 15
home runs in the first round of the 2016 T-Mobile Home Run Derby, but
fell short of Mark Trumbo’s 16 and was eliminated. Seager then went 0-
for-1 and played 4.0 innings at shortstop Tuesday night for the National
League in the 87th Midsummer Classic at PETCO Park. Seager was just
the eighth rookie to compete in the Derby, joining California’s Wally
Joyner (1986), Oakland’s Jose Canseco (1986) and Mark McGwire
(1987), the Dodgers’ Mike Piazza (1993) and Joc Pederson (2015) and
Kris Bryant (2015) and Anthony Rizzo (2015) of the Chicago Cubs.
Through just 91 team games, with 17 home runs, Seager trails
only Hanley Ramirez by two (19, 2013) for the Los Angeles
single-season home run record by a shortstop.
Seager continues to lead the Dodgers in hits, runs and home
runs, something no Dodger rookie has done since Jackie
Robinson in 1947 – Source: Stats, LLC.
Seager’s 105 hits rank fifth in the National League and he is
just the fourth Dodger rookie since the Midsummer Classic
began to collect at least 100 hits heading into the All-Star
break:

TURNING THE CORNER: Adrián González has five multi-hit
games in his six contests, and since being held out of the starting lineup
on consecutive days in Pittsburgh June 26-27, he’s batting .455 (20-for-
44) with a .554 on-base percentage, a homer, six doubles and 11 RBI in
13 games. During that span, he’s gone 8-for-12 (.667) with runners in

since returning from the DL on June 21, going 19-for-60 with

infielder/outfielder has 10 doubles, two homers and a .506
slugging percentage in that time while helping the Dodgers to
a 17-8 mark in those games. Kendrick leads the Dodgers with
a .318 batting average (21-for-66) vs. left-handed pitching.
HEY BUUUUUD: Bud Norris gets the ball to start the second half and
tonight he will make his third start for Los Angeles. In his last seven
starts since June 4, Norris is 3-1with a 2.23 ERA (10 ER/40.1 IP), while
striking out 42 and walking just 11. Norris has also limited the
opposition to a .201 batting average, which ranks fifth in the National
League in that time.
Overall, Dodger pitching has held opponents to a .220 batting
average this season, which ranks second in the Major Leagues,
behind the Chicago Cubs (.216) and is historically very good:
