Dear Colleagues:

I am pleased to write this letter of recommendation in support of Mr. Stephen Morrison's applicationfor admission to your prestigious program. I have known Stephen since he started his baccalaureateprogram at Pwdue four years ago. I instructed him in my classroom, and advised him in careercounseling and international programs.

Prirdue Professors and administrators whom Stephen has contact with would agree with me that he isamong the top five percent of the student body in our college. Others may commend his academicperformance and his accumulation of knowledge and skills. I believe that he even stands out amonghis top peers in at least three non-academic areas. First, Stephen is a passionate and determined youngman in pursing his dreams. He has worked in several foodservice jobs from waiter to cook. Whileother students may do at a minimum in order to fulfilling the intemship requirement of their degreeprogram, Stephen took these jobs with pride and as building blocks of his culinary career. Hisappreciation for w{rat he was doing and vvhat surrounded him was evident in numerous of ourconversations. His observations about his work environment were sharp yet enthusiastic.

Second, Stephen is a caring and dedicated individual. While attending my class on tourism systems,he won the respect from his team members for his knowledge, as well as eflective leadership incarrying out an important experiential and case-based project. I observed him to be considerate andrespectflil of others' opinions and ideas. He is particularly sensitive to the needs of those who are newto Purdue campus and to the United States. He has been a volunteer mentor to the exchange studentsfrom other countries. He is always dependable and reliable at events and activities that involve theseexchange students.

Thfud, Stephen is one of the few students in our college who has participated in three study abroadprograms, with one extending two-semester long. He traveled extensively and went beyond theclassroom setting of these overseas programs to experience the variety of cultures at host destinations. As a result, he demonstrates a broader perspective in dealing with both people and subject matters. Ifeel that his rich intemational exposure contributes to his creativrty and imagination w{dch willpositively impact his culinary career.

Stephen will be a valuable addition to your student body and the program. I give him my fulIrecommendation and support, and will be happy to answer any questions you may have about thisletter.

Sincerely,

Liping A. Cai, Ph.D.Associate Dean, College of Consumer and Family SciencesProfessor and Director, Purdue Tourism and Hospitality research Center
