PrirdueProfessors and administrators whom Stephen hascontactwith would agree with me that he is amongthe top five percentof the student body in our college. Othersmay commendhis academic performance and his accumulationof knowledge and skills. I believe that he even stands out among his top peers in at least threenon-academic areas. First, Stephen is a passionate anddetermined young man in pursing his dreams. He hasworked in several foodservice jobs from waiterto cook. While other students may do at a minimum in order to fulfilling the intemship requirementof their degree program, Stephen took these jobs with pride andasbuilding blocks of his culinarycareer. His appreciation for w{rat he was doing and vvhat surrounded him was evident in numerousof our conversations. His observations abouthis work environment were sharp yet enthusiastic. Second, Stephen is a caringand dedicated individual. While attending my class on tourism systems, he won the respect from his team members for his knowledge,as well as eflective leadership in carrying out an important experientialand case-based project. I observed him to be considerate and respectflil of others'opinionsandideas. He is particularlysensitive to the needs of those who arenew to Purduecampus and to the United States. He hasbeena volunteer mentor to the exchange students from other countries. He is always dependable and reliable at eventsand activities that involve these exchange students.
