“Touch of Christmas Love”
First Lutheran will again be collecting Christmas gifts for families in Delaware County. This year we will be sponsoring 5 families through “Parents as Teachers” at Regional Medical Center. The "Touch of Christmas Love" program has been an amazing way for our church family to reach out to other families in the county during the holiday sea-son. There is a tree in the entry way of the church with family tags on it. Please remove the tags you wish to purchase and simply re-turn the unwrapped gift (with the tag attached) to the church.
PLEASE RETURN THE GIFTS NO LATER THAN DECEMBER 11th. We will be wrapping gifts on the morning of Saturday, December 14th. We look forward to continuing this project for many years to come.

Stewardship Update
Well, this year is almost over, and soon First Lutheran will be celebrating 100 years. If you read the Lamplighter, in January's message I asked you to do 5 things in the new year: 1) Increase your giving, 2) Participate in wor-ship, 3) Share your talents during worship, 4) Be a regular attendee, 5) Study the bible. How did you do? Doing those things will strength-en your faith and build a stronger church.
Guess what? Another year is com-ing to try to improve if you didn't achieve those goals last year! First Lutheran has been bringing people to Jesus for 100 years. It is our re-sponsibility to build on that 100 years for the next generation so they will hear the word of God and become believers. There will be many activities to celebrate our 100 years this coming 2020, so plan to participate as much as possible. and invite others to those events. To everyone, have a Merry Christmas and a Christ-focused New Year.
"Then Jesus said to him, ‘Be gone Satan! For it is written, you shall worship the Lord your God and him only shall you serve.’ " - Matthew 4:10
Larry Richmond, Stewardship Chair
The December “Mission of the Month” offering will go to the church’s 100-year Anniversary
Celebration. "Let's give our change to change many lives by bringing them to Christ."

Update from the Quilters
The “Piecemakers” of First Lutheran
are busy every Tuesday morning
putting fabric and backs together to
make quilts. Most of the quilts go to
Lutheran World Relief, which then
get sent to all parts of the world
(outside the U.S.). This year, we
sent 110 quilts to LWR. We also
provide quilts for Operation Santa
Claus and for the families our
church sponsors for the “Touch of
Christmas Love” project. In addition,
we give baby quilts at baptisms,
and we also sell quilts to anyone
who would like them.
Many Tuesdays we find fabric and
sheets left on the tables. We are
truly thankful for these donations.
This is what makes our mission
possible. Also, a big ‘thank you’
goes out to Deb & Larry Richmond
for delivering the LWR quilts to the
ingathering in Cedar Rapids.
LaVonne Larson donated a beauti-
ful queen-sized top that she pieced
and we had it hand-quilted by Mrs.
Joe Schwartz. It will be on display
in the entryway, and a silent auc-
tion for the quilt will be part of our
100th anniversary celebration next
year. Keep watching for details.

Witness a Miracle at “Live Nativity” & “Streets of Bethlehem”
More than 70 volunteer cast and crew members will come together in the true spirit of Christmas for multiple perfor-mances of the biblical account of the birth of Jesus Christ in Scotch Grove, Iowa at The Bean Farm at 7731 148th St.
SATURDAY & SUNDAY, DECEMBER 7th & 8th STREETS OF BETHLEHEM - OPEN FROM 1:00 - 4:00 P.M. LIVE NATIVITY PRESENTATION - 2:00 P.M. & 4:00 P.M.
Cast and crew will be in costumes and character so that visi-tors may experience what it may have been like 2000 years ago. There will be live animals. Guests will be counted for the census, meet the tough Roman guards, see beggars in the street, & encounter the tax collectors. As fellow travelers on the journey, guests will hear the sounds of the marketplace and take in the aroma of the rich incense. Merchant shops include carpentry, textiles, bread, clay vessels, incense, herbs, and oils. Excitement and friendship build among cast and crew as volunteers from near and far come together to share the reason for the season.
“Seeing the story come alive will help to keep Jesus at the forefront of Christmas. No amount of beautifully wrapped gifts under our tree can fulfill us to the degree of the gift He gave us by coming to earth as an infant, more than 2000 years ago,” said Doug and Julia Bean, own-ers of The Bean Farm. “It is our hope that families and friends come together and feel the love that God has for them through the birth of His beloved Son.”
A recommended donation of $10 per person is gratefully ac-cepted. Your contribution is tax deductible! Donations help us improve the production year after year and continue our work of spreading the good news.
$$$ Thrivent Grants $$$
Our church would love to start utilizing the Thrivent grant process more for church projects and events! All you need to do is let us know if you are a Thrivent member and we will even help write the grants as needed! Let's work to-gether to take part in this amazing opportunity that Thrivent offers! For more info, please e-mail [email protected]. Thank you!
