Conditions i n Hawaii Jan- 10 - a. General: Conditions have been very good to excellent, though disturbed a t one point by local storms which brought HNL. There has been a variety of directional openings, and a classically clear swing, a t one point, from a d i rec t iond opening towards the southern West Indies up through Cuba t o North America, to wbich conditions currently point. Europe has not again been heard since early November, despite generally excellent reception of Alaska throughout this period.

1/10: Very f ine conditions. Alaska good, not only the more common northern Alaskans such as KFRB, but the l ess common southern Alaskan KINY a t f ine strength. A f ine opening into ~exas/~ouisiana, with Texans on top of numy regional channels such a s VFAA-570(over KLBC), KPRC-g50(over KJR), and KYOK-1590 giving dominant

I r MIV a run f o r its money.

1/11: North America a s before; a good opening i n Asia, inc. Thailand.

1/12: North America very good, WJAG780 Neb. t e s t noted. Fla. good, WSUT-620.

1/13: Basically above average, but ruined by HNL from local thunderstorms. 1/14 also.

1/15: East Coast very good, Pacific very good, Alaska very good.

1/16: A good dawn opening to British Columbia: CFCP-1440 new. Alaska good.

1/17: Outstanding conditions, with mainlanders overriding locals a t times. KKIS through KTRG without looping, RFRE cutting through KAHU, etc. East Coast fine.

1/19: Fine cx t o a l l N.A. KCUO over KCO, KINY very good, good opening t o Tex., Okla., Ark. area.

1/20: Beautiful E.A. conditions, and an outstanding night to the West Indies. R. Montserrat-885 new(6173 miles). KYW almost level CFCN, other E.C. excellent. New Santo Domingo logging and other W.Indies s i e ; n a l s ( ~ ~ ~ - 6 , PJD-2)very good. WQXR good. Beginning of a stretch of f ine N.A. cx.

1/21: Continued f ine to N.A., but swinging up from W.Indies.

1/22: Beautiful to N.A., I just wish i t had been a MB. VCAU through local KZOO; WBZ, KDEX semi-local, gW a t times actually over hitherto always dominant), CKLX very good, ~uba(but no far ther south) good. Pacific above average.

1/23-24: Continuing as 1/22, KYW still over CFCN a t times. N.Y.C.-660,880,1560 fine.
