Under 9 Match Reports 3
With the finals fast approaching the Eagles are well placed to have up to 6 teams competing in the finals. The Under 10’s and 14’s both have the double chance already sown up. They are also well in the hunt to be minor premiers. Under 11 Blue will make the finals and have a crunch match this week against ladder leaders South Morang - a win will go a long way to securing the double chance.
Under 12’s are guaranteed finals action also, having nailed down 3rd place with a good win last week. Under 16’s are also headed for finals action and need another win to ensure they secure the double chance. Under 17’s are hanging on to their place in ‘The Four’ and are faced with a game at home this week at 3pm against the top team in Research, then an away game at Mill Park. A win in either of these is a must to keep the finals dream alive. Come along & support them this Sunday at the Showgrounds.
The Merchandise Container will only be opening for the next 2 Tuesdays, so you have until the 31st of July to pick up any items you may need for the finals! Also there are some great stocking fillers for Xmas on sale at the Container, such as training singlets, shorts or how about a kit bag.
Container is open Tuesday from 5 to 6 pm and only for the next 2 weeks.

Finals Race Heating Up
Thank you to the Weather Gods and everyone else that assisted last Friday for the Under 9’s Presidents Match - Umpires Matty & Nathan, Coach’s Alicia & Andrea, Russell Family Timekeepers, Phill & Ros behind the Bar, Sue Heenan for washing the White Clash Jumpers, Colin Newport for the photo DVD (with music selection by Liam) Donna & Lisa and all their helpers dishing out the yummy pizza (JC’s Pizza & Pasta) and drinks.
Also Under 9’s please ensure you respond to your Team Managers regarding Tackers Day by Friday so we can confirm the number of teams to the NFL.
Checked out the Game Day Board yet? How good does it look? (Photo on page 9 of the Newsletter) Don’t forget the Disco this Friday, we have some good numbers already and you can pay at the door on the night. You don’t want to miss out on this one A couple of housekeeping items –Yes, we only have a couple of weeks left in the Season but still need to mention these;
Ambulance Gate (beside Timekeepers Box) –No parking, keep clear at all times
Seniors Gym – no admittance to anyone under 16 years Changerooms – As the signs say NO footballs are to be used in the change rooms. If myself or anyone else needs to remind you about this, please do not argue just take it outside. Have respect for the Club’s facilities. Boundary Fence – Unless you are an official for the game being played you must be behind the fence while play is in progress. Thanks everyone for your co-operation with these. Interclub player transfer numbers to Whittlesea for Season 2012 are greater than all the transfers for the four Season’s prior, 2008 to 2011. What an excellent indication of how we are viewed in our District, especially considering the many Club’s in close proximity. Be proud to be part of the Whittlesea Eagles and make sure you all wear your Game Day Jackets on Sunday. Our 17’s need to have a couple of very big games over the next two weeks to ensure they make finals. It will be close and dependent on percentages and other results. This Sunday they are playing at home at 3pm – please get along and show your support for the Team, it does make all the difference. Have you thought about assisting the Club next Season? All enthusiasm very welcome – I will be standing down as President however will still be involved in some capacity – the more support we have the easier for all those that do the work. It’s all for the Kids !! We must have a Pres out there somewhere? Looking forward to catching up with everyone at our End of Season function on Sunday July 29th @ 5pm and acknowledging the great effort of our Teams playing finals. Thanks Megan Beattie President

Round 12 Summary
Under 9 Blue v Kinglake
This week our boys came up against a very determined
Kinglake side.
The first quarter was marginally better than other weeks, but still an improvement.
The muddy ground made for a very hard fought match and our boys played a good game.
Go Eagles!!!

Under 9 Gold v West Preston
On yet another cold wet morning in Whittlesea town, we came across the might of West Preston Under 9`s who to date have only lost the one game this season (and that was to their Under 17’s) From the start till the end, in the very heavy conditions our little warriors were fantastic.
To see so many of the boys progress throughout the year the way they have is fantastic and everyone associated with team is very proud of them. Looking forward to this week, our last official game for the year. (home game also) Go Eagles!
The boys celebrating after a hard fought game
Under 11 Gold - v Eltham
Started well, came out ready to play, looked like scoring and then the quarter time siren went!!
Keep your chins up Guys, I am really proud of each of you.
While this has not been the best season, we have many years of footy ahead of us.
Under 11 Blue - v Greensborough
After a well earned rest last week the boys came out for this game ready to play. They played well in the first 3 quarters, but their last quarter was excellent, moving the ball by hand, running in numbers, playing good percentage footy and kicking 6 goals for the quarter. Big game next week boys, 4 big quarters required. Well done today to Sam, Jesse, Carter and Benjamin, all playing their 50th game.
Under 10’s v Mill Park
Another great win this week in what was a pretty scrappy game at Kelynack Reserve. The wind certainly played a factor in otherwise fine conditions.
We had them scoreless for three quarters to which Mill Park came home strong with the increasing wind.
We were nowhere near our best & with the 2nd spot on the ladder team Sth Morang at home next week, we will need to polish up on our skill levels if we’re to make it 3 from 3 for the season against them.
We have locked in the double chance now & a win next week will earn us the minor premiership!
Amazing effort all season boys, really proud of everyone of you…

Paul doing a fine job running the boundary
We are always learning regardless of results - lets keep improving our skills and playing as a Team.
Congratulations Nathan Barnett on 50 Big Games for the Eagles.
Dion after 2 games of sunning himself in Bali played like he hadn’t missed a game.
Lachie and Kai were great down back. Liam B and the 2 Baileys worked hard all game.
Keep playing this brand of footy as we prepare for next year.
Under 13’s v Eltham
Another good performance against the second best team in the comp.
We gave up 3 easy goals, dropped a mark, couldn’t kill a ball in front of goal and another player was left unmarked at a ruck. So little things have lets us down, which could have led to a tighter result.
Liam F led from the outset and was well supported by Brandyn, Blake and Connor. Rhys played his best game of the year.
Under 12’s v Yarrambat
Well we played on a wet wet wet ground and our boys did what I expected them to do. We made a few changes giving boys other chances to play in different positions. Benny Welsh kicked the first goal of his career which was great for us. The test this week is playing against Epping, who we believe we will play in the first semi in 2 weeks.

Under 14’s v Epping
No match report available
The opposition made the most of their opportunities and the same could not be said of our own efforts.
We now have the top team to deal with this week which will require a lot of commitment from the whole team.
Under 17’s v Lalor
It was a frustrating day against a team that we really should have beaten.
The preparation for the game may not have been ideal but it was not an excuse.

We are back to second and we need to stay there to give ourselves the best chance.

Impressive game of Discipline.
We talk about the structure week in week out and now at the end of the season we are finally starting to realise that by playing as a team and doing the team thing, the whole thing works

McDonald’s Footy Clinic Report
As reported in last weeks issue of the Raptor, Riley Kennedy from the Under 10’s and Reece Colosimo from the Under 11 Gold Team were selected by the club to attend a junior football clinic on Wednesday 11th July at Elsternwick Park. Both boys obviously paid attention at the Clinic as they were both named amongst the best players in their respective games last Sunday.
Reece’s Report I had a great day with the football players from the Mac Pack, they were Buddy Franklin, Marc Murphy and Jack Riewoldt. We did a lot of fun drills and we had the chance to get photos and autographs with them including Ronald Mcdonald.
My highlight of the day was when we got to do some goal kicking with Jack. Everyone one had a great time and when it was time to go we all got a free showbag which was a good ending to the day.

The new game day board is now ‘up and
running’, to let all the good folk of Whittlesea
know what Eagles teams are playing at the
Showgrounds.

There was a swag of boys reaching milestone games during Round 12. Nathan Barnett reached his 50th game when he turned out for the U/11 Gold team in their match against Eltham at Eltham, so unfortunately he missed out on celebrating it at home. At home, U/11 Blue players Jesse Ellks, Carter Allen, Sam Heaphy and Benjamin Tennent also reached the 50 game milestone. It got a bit crowded in the centre square when the toss took place as their opponents Greensborough, also had 2 boys playing their 50th game.
Milestone games for Whittlesea Players
In the next match at the Showgrounds the Under 13’s got in on the act They had 3 of their players reaching milestones, with Dion Musgrave playing his 100th and Liam Flatley and Rhys Op De Coul reaching the half century mark. Congratulations to all the boys on achieving their respective milestones.

Visit to Aboriginal Communities in Northern Territory
Ross Marshall who plays for the Under 16’s recently travelled to Darwin with some school friends. The following is a report from Ross on what they experienced on their travels and how the Whittlesea Football Club were involved.
Myself and a group of 6 friends from Plenty Valley Christian College flew to Darwin and went to some of the Aboriginal communities there.
We spent a lot of the time kicking the footballs that were donated by Whittlesea Football Club and spent a lot of time playing with the kids as they are all footy mad, including the girls .
After spending a lot of time at Belyuen we made our way to Wadye which is the largest Aboriginal community in Australia .
Whilst we were there we stopped at a group of houses where we met another group of great kids .
They told us about the footy league in their community, the teams in the league are named after AFL football teams.
When we were leaving we got out the football jumpers and handed them out to the kids .
There faces lit up and they were all trying to find their favourite number .
We are very thankful to the Whittlesea Football club for donating the jumpers and footballs to the kids.
The AFL Online Junior Coaching Course consists of five modules:
1. Introduction
2. Role of the Coach
3. Conducting a typical Auskick Session
4. Teaching football skills to children
5. Conducting and Umpiring a Match

8.30 am
The U/9 Gold side take on Bundoora Park in the last game of
the season. When they played them in Round 2, it marked the
first game that Coach Dave took charge of.
The boys will be keen to show Dave how much they have learnt
since he took over, so we think we will see a strong game from our
boys.
10.00 am
The Under 10’s tackle South Morang Gold in a top of the table
clash. We have come out on top of them in the 2 previous clashes
Both teams will be looking for pyschological advantage, as it is
looking most likely that they will be
facing off against each other in the first week of the finals.
Match Reviews for Round 13 Games at the Showgrounds
Page 13
11.30 am
The U/11 Gold side take on Wallan Juniors who are a formidable team
that currently sit second on the ladder.
Our boys have struggled with not being able to field a full team, but this
has given those boys who are keen to
develop their game, a chance to have more game time to hone their skills.
This development is what has been most pleasing for the coach.
1.00 pm
The Under 12’s host Epping who are one of 3 teams vying for the
final place in the Four. It can be guaranteed that they will be
desperate for a win to help secure themselves 4th spot.
Last time we met them they put on
a lot of physical pressure, but our boys responded with smart football
which got us home.
More of the same is what the coaches will be looking for.
3.00 pm
The U/17’s take on the flag favourite in Research who are a very strong team.
The boys will have a lot of support going into this match with senior
players and lots of the junior boys coming along to cheer the team along.
The need to consolidate our position in
the top four should ensure our boys are right on their game which they will
need to be. A win could almost ensure a place in the finals.

Who Am I ???
This bloke (not Spiderman - the other bloke in the corner of the photo) played his first game of football in 2009 at Etihad Stadium in front of some 45,000 people. The next game he played was in 2010 on an even bigger stage, the MCG, in front of a crowd of about 80,000.
He cooled his heels in 2011 to concentrate on his role as a statistician for a premiership winning team. Started playing Under 9’s this season. Up to now he has played for 3 clubs and his willingness to help out this season has shown that he is the ultimate ‘team man’.
