Types of Insurance coveredPublic Liability Legal Liability to pay compensation for third party injury or property damage (excluding
motor vehicles), as a result of an occurrence and happening in connection with University business or University work placements / experience and / or site / field program.
Professional Indemnity Civil Liability arising out of a breach of professional duty by reason of any negligent act, error or omission committed by the Student while acting on behalf of the University (Geographical Limit is World Wide, excluding USA & Canada).
Student Personal Accident Cover includes Death and Capital benefits, hospitalisation (limits apply) and non-Medicare expenses (limits apply) for all students whilst on University related business and on campus.
Corporate Travel Corporate Travel insurance when undertaking authorised business travel on behalf of James Cook University or its Subsidiaries.
Medical Malpractice Medical Malpractice insurance (for medical & nursing students) covering personal injury claims as a result of medical negligence provided the students are suitably supervised by an appropriate qualified person (Geographical Limit is World Wide, excluding USA & Canada). This coverage is only available where - Mandatory part of course requirements - Appropriately supervised by a qualified practitioner - Consent by patient

What do I do if
I have an Accident
• Complete an accident injury report in RiskWare
• If there are any costs involved that are to be claimed – contact the insurance office for a claim form
There could be a claim under 1 of the liability policies
(Med Mal, PI or Public Liability)
• Student should advise their JCU supervisor
• The supervisor should advise the Head of School and the University’s legal office (Fiona MacDonald or Angela Briggs)
• Advise the insurance office
