Installing a VOR Antenna on Zenith’s “Flying Rudder”by Bill Bartlett

• Cutout hole using the antenna gasket as a template.

• Dill two holes to accommodate appropriate nut-plates or rivnuts.

• Deburr and smooth edges.• Check antenna connections clearance

with cut out.• Antenna connections must not come in

contact with the rudder.• Add a dielectric edge protection if

required.• Or, coat your connections with

electrician’s liquid tape.• I used a nut-plate for the forward hole;

and, a rivnut for the aft hole.• 6T4-4 Vertical Tail Spar wouldn’t allow

room for a nut plate.

• Coaxial cable is routed inside the leading edge skin.

• Coaxial cable is routed through the 6T4-1 Nose Rib.

• Add grommet to hole through the nose rib.

• I placed a small clear tube around cable to help protect the cable fit the clamp.
