Eulogy• First lived on the Australian continent for 2
million years• 3000 yrs ago mass extinction wiped them out
on the mainland, leaning them only in Tasmania
• 1803 European colonisation saw them being shot or trapped
• Feral dogs and diseases further weakened the population
Eulogy• 1930 - Last confirmed record of wild tiger• 1936 – granted legal protection• 7 September 1936 – last surviving Tasmanian
Tiger died after 12yrs captivity in Hobart’s Beaumaris Zoo.
