NEW DELHI : A day after a Twitterspat with her party colleagueSaurabh Bharadwaj, Aam AadmiParty MLA from Chandni ChowkAlka Lamba on Wednesday askedher constituents at a public meet-ing whether “they wanted her toquit the party or continue herfight”. Lamba, however, did notelaborate on what she meant bycontinuing her fight. “My own party tells me that I

am soft on the Congress… On onehand, they want to ally with them(Congress) to fight the BharatiyaJanata Party (BJP). On the other,they have been attacking the Con-gress… But they should keep inmind that if they ally with theCongress after so much criticism,the BJP will target them for thedoublespeak,” Lamba told a public gathering near Jama Masjid. Lamba claimed that she had

been asked to resign from theparty for the fourth time. “…Thelast time, when I had sent my res-ignation to Arvind Kejriwal’soffice, deputy chief minister Man-ish Sisodia had come forward andI was coaxed into taking my resig-nation back… But why am I beingattacked by my own partyagain?” said Lamba. She said,“So, I ask you, do you want me toquit or continue my fight?”Responding to Lamba’s com-

Rai Tuesday wrote to Congresspresident Rahul Gandhi, urginghis party to support full state-hood for Delhi instead of propos-ing amendments to the Govern-ment of National Capital Terri-tory of Delhi (GNCTD) Act, 1991.Delhi goes to polls on May 12

and, so far, only the AAP hasdeclared its candidates in allseven parliamentary constitu-encies. When asked if AAP has dis-

cussed the issue of an allianceafter Gandhi, on Tuesday, saidthe Congress is “open and flexible” to a tie-up, Rai main-tained that no communicationhad come from the Congress so far.“Gandhi’s comment were pos-

itive towards an alliance. But,the Congress through its mani-festo did not depict the same pas-sion for full statehood, which isAAP’s key poll agenda this LokSabha elections. So, AAP willdiscuss about an alliance onlyafter the Congress agrees thatfull statehood is its top priority,too,” the AAP convener said.

In its manifesto released onTuesday, the Congress said it“promises to amend the GNCTDAct, 1991, to make it clear that thelieutenant-governor shall act onthe aid and advice of the councilof ministers, except in mattersconcerning the three reservedsubjects.”Rai countered this by sending

a letter to Gandhi on Wednesday.“This is factually incorrect andthese four lines do not conveyanything. Firstly, aid and advicehas nothing to do with theGNCTD Act, and it is extremelydisappointing that after havingpromised statehood for Delhi fordecades, your party has nowgone back on its promise,” hesaid in the letter.The AAP leader further said it

appears that this issue has beenhurriedly incorporated in theCongress manifesto “withoutany homework or research”. “For undoing the injustice to

Delhi, it is time for a fresh consti-tutional amendment to provideit with full statehood. Merelychanging the GNCTD Act willchange nothing. The Congresshas promised full statehood toPuducherry, but it has given astepmotherly treatment toDelhi,” Rai alleged.He requested Gandhi to recon-

sider the stand taken by the Con-gress regarding Delhi and sup-port the demand for full state-hood.

NEW DELHI: This April Fool’s Day,a team of Delhi Police fromDwarka made a fool of a MewatiATM thief wanted in a series ofcases in Uttar Pradesh, Karna-taka and Delhi.On Monday, the police team

members dressed up as villag-ers — some in lungi-kurta and afew in loose pyjamas — toappear as members of anotherMewati gang. When the suspectarrived to steal cash from anATM in Uttam Nagar, on thepretext of sharing the booty, thepolice team locked him in theATM kiosk and later arrestedhim.The police have identified the

man as 45-year-old MohammadAslam, a resident of Ram Parkin Loni, Ghaziabad.

Deputy commissioner ofpolice (Dwarka) Anto Alphonsesaid his team received informa-tion that Aslam, who is wantedin a series of ATM thefts, willreach Uttam Nagar area to receean ATM kiosk.“We knew that Aslam is a

Mewati criminal. In order totrap him, our men got dressedup in lungi-kurta. They alsodonned a bandana like Mewatisusually do. Around 9pm, thepolice team spotted Aslam at theATM. When Aslam saw the dis-guised policemen, he believed

them to be Mewati criminalsand agreed to share the cash sto-len from the ATM,” Deputycommissioner of police(Dwarka) Anto Alphonse said.Police said all of them headed

to the ATM, and the policementricked him and locked him

inside the ATM kiosk. He wasthen overpowered and arrested.DCP Alphonse said, “Moham-

mad Aslam admitted that hehails from village Karanda inMewat. He said he was involvedin multiple cases of ATM theftsin Kanpur, UP and also in Kar-nataka. He said he used differ-ent names every time the policecaught him to hide his criminalpast.”Police said, in 2012, Aslam

along with his associates tried tosteal cash from an ATM inMaurya Enclave but the secu-rity guard opened fired at themin which one of his associateswas killed.Later, Aslam was also

arrested but he absconded frompolice custody during trial. The court had declared him a

proclaimed offender, policesaid.

NEW DELHI: A 21-year-old man wascrushed to death while workingat a machine in a factory in southDelhi’s Maidan Garhi during theearly hours on Wednesday.The victim was identified as

Madhu Ram, a resident of Lakhimpur Kheri in Uttar Pra-desh. The factory he was work-ing in processed plastic waste.The factory owner was laterarrested.Police said that they received

a distress call at the MaidanGarhi police station at around1.15 am. Deputy commissioner ofpolice (South) Vijay Kumar saidwhen police reached the spot, a19-year-old labourer HimanshuPrasad, who was working withRam at the machine, told themwhat had happened. “He said that as Ram leaned

into the machine to settle thecrushed bottles, the shaft of themachine came down andcrushed him from shoulder tothe chest. He died on the spot. Hisbody was taken to Safdarjunghospital where an autopsy wasconducted and his family wasinformed,” the DCP said.Kumar said, initial probe

revealed that the property,which is at Banshee Road inAsola, was rented out to a mannamed Manish Kumar Gupta.

“Gupta had set up the crushingmachine to crush plastic bottlesand had employed some labou-rers to run the factory. Labou-rers told police that the machinealso required to be handled man-ually. A case of causing deathdue to negligence has been regis-tered and Gupta was arrested,”the DCP said.Police said Ram lived in Delhi

with his brother who also worksat a factory nearby. Ram isunmarried and his parents liveat their native village in UP.

Dhruv Kumar, who works asan electrician near the factory,and witnessed the accident, saidthat the machine has threedoors. “The person who is operating

the machine has to close thesedoors to start the machine. Ramhad closed two doors but some-thing stuck the third door. AsRam climbed up to check, theshaft collapsed,” Kumar said. DCP Kumar said police are

also probing if there is any foulplay.

NEW DELHI: The Central Bureau ofInvestigation (CBI) on Wednes-day announced a ₹5 lakh rewardfor any information on the where-abouts of self-styled godman Vir-ender Dev Dixit, wanted foralleged rape in Delhi’s Rohini,officials said.The agency had, last year,

informed the Delhi high courtthat its efforts to locate 77-year-old Dixit, who had allegedly con-fined several women at his ash-ram, Adhyatmik IshwariyaVishwa Vidyalaya, in Rohini,

Delhi, had not yielded results.“The agency has informed that

Dixit is absconding and has notjoined investigation and effortsare being made to trace him inNepal,” a high court bench hadsaid. The agency had issued twoLook out Circulars (LoCs) on Jan-uary 22, 2018 and February 22,2019 against him. An interpol bluenotice to locate him has also beenissued on the request of the CBIon March 26, 2018. CBI beganprobing Dixit on the directions ofDelhi High Court. HTC
