Poverty Alleviation via Microfinance
500 RMB In 1993, the founders of Fuping, prominent economists Prof.
Yushi Mao & Dr. Min Tang experimented microfinance with 500 RMB in the Luliang mountains region of Shanxi province.
5 Million RMB In 2007, the microfinance project has already loaned 5
million RMB in total with a repayment rate of 97%, benefitting around 4,000 farmers from nearly 1,000 rural families.
UN China Microfinance Award In 2005 the project was awarded the United Nations Chinese
microfinance award, presented personally by the former president of the World Bank Mr. James Wolfensohn.
