You may have noticed a new fixture outside our south entrance,
across from Bank of Buffalo and Kirven & Kirven. This is our new
book return, which is replacing the one we’ve had in the wall by the
south door since the 1980s. This new drop can be used as a drive-
up, has a greater capacity, and will improve our building’s security.
A reminder to our patrons and visitors: the south parking lot is
one way only, accessible by entering at Adams Avenue and leaving
via the alley. Thanks for your consideration and for using our
library!

Art in Bloom Our annual fund-raiser for special performers to
visit the children’s summer reading programs
resumes, with local artists
painting flowerpots which will
be then auctioned off to the
public. Those performers will
include magician Cody
Landstrom and guests from the
Science Zone in Casper.
Previous year’s efforts raised approximately
$1,000 per auction. The flowerpots will be
auctioned prior to Mother’s Day, May 13.
South Fork Inn, built in 1916.
The Pines Lodge was
originally established in
1909 as a summer camp for
the Albert Holland, Wesley
Copps, and L.G Canterbury
families along with a Mr.
Bellows from Missouri.
The camp was the first to
operate on a Big Horn
Forest Service lease.
(Information gleaned from
the Buffalo Bulletin
October 25, 2007. )
South Fork Inn was built in
1916 by the Rev. Charles
Gray Miller, pastor of the
Congregational Church and
his son, Otis Miller, with
financial backing provided
by L.R. A. Condit,
prominent and successful
rancher of the Kaycee
vicinity.
(From the Buffalo Bulletin
April 30, 1959)
off on June 13 with a picnic for all
teens and children at 11:30.
This year’s theme is “Libraries
Rock!”, so expect tons of musically-
oriented activities and some special
guests, too. Teens will be invited to
create music for their own music
boxes, and children will get to
create custom instruments. There
will be numerous crafts to keep
them entertained! Snacks and games
and other events are planned.
For adults, we’ll have quiz
sheets to turn in for weekly prize
drawings, and of course, rating the books you’ve read.
We will have more information as the summer approaches. Participants
will need to sign up with library staff. Can’t wait to see you there!

the library Monday
evenings for “Sit.
Stay. Read!”, as
we’re calling this
new program, and
possibly at other
opportunities.
The plan is to
have parents sign
their kids up for 15
minute intervals during which they can
join Lynda and Bo at the end of the long
hall by our large northwest meeting room.
We’ll have it set aside just for them, so
the kids can read to Bo in a quiet
environment.
A recent study by Tufts University
demonstrated that second grade students
improved their attitudes about reading
when they read to pets during an
afterschool program.
More details will be available in
coming weeks.
