TWENTY-NINTH SUNDAY in ORDINARY TIME OCTOBER 19, 2014
EVERYTHING BELONGS TO GOD
The first reading from the prophet Isaiah concerns the Persian King Cyrus, called the Lord’s
“anointed.” Cyrus deserves this title because he ended the Babylonian captivity of the Jews. How-
ever, Isaiah reminds that it was God who gave Cyrus his power. He may be a great king, but “I am
the LORD and there is no other,” says God (Isaiah 45:5).
Today’s Gospel is also concerned with worldly power. In the passage from Matthew, the Pharisees
try to trick Jesus into speaking against the emperor. His famous answer is the perfect reply. Like the
kings of old, Caesar can be given the respect due his position, but everything belongs to God.
In the second reading, Paul gives thanks for all who are faithful to Jesus Christ and his gospel. He,
too, reminds us that our call and the power to be faithful come from God. (J.S, Paluch Co. / Liturgical Cycle A)

“Repay to Caesar what belongs to Caesar and to God what belongs to God.” This week’s
reflection will be short. It all belongs to God. It is simple isn’t, we have created nothing, we
own nothing, we are in a real sense nothing. All is God. We are not nothing due to God’s
love for us. He gives us meaning. He calls us into relationship. As the children’s song says,
“He’s got the whole world in His hands.” Perhaps our lives would be much simpler if instead of
focusing on what we have and keeping it, we shifted our focus to the Love that God has for us.

" I often tell the friars who were never stationed in Hereford
how wonderful and loving the parishioners of St. Anthony's
Parish were to me...I enjoy very much to hear what is going
on in the parish. God's grace continues to work in all of you
these many years and what a great heritage you will be
passing on to those who follow in years to come.
Please keep Fr. Norman Boyd in your prayers as we were just
informed here recently that he has been diagnosed with cancer.
Tomorrow, Thursday, he will be leaving for Rose Hawthorne
Nursing Home which specializes in patients with terminal cancer.
They only accept terminal patients and is run by the Dominican
nuns for incurable cancer. God Bless all of you, Bro. John"

Greetings! Wow, our annual Karnival Krazy is upon
us! Where has the time gone? We will need all hands on
deck for this event. It is one of our big “fun”-raisers and
it takes a village to get it done.
Our continued focus will be on our goals, which will be
featured in this newsletter and the ones to come.
ACADEMIC: To integrate into our curriculum the use of all available
technology as an enhancement and reinforcement of
classroom learning.
