About the Cover-“Lord Jesus Christ, by Your own three days in the tomb, You hallowed the graves of all who believe in You and so made the grave a sign of hope that promises resurrection even as it claims our mortal bodies.” So begins a prayer of blessing of the grave at a burial. Before 1865, London-area Catholics seeking burial in consecrated ground were interred in Springfield. Founding pastor, Fr. John Mary Conway, to remedy that situation, founded St. Patrick’s Cemetery. In early 1865, he purchased four acres south of London on what is now State Route 56 for $400.00 with an additional $396 spent on fencing, landscaping and plotting. The first burial was that of John Keogh in the following April. A number of families then relocated the bodies of their loved ones from Springfield to the new cemetery. Over the years, additional acreage was added and in 1928 a “Priests’ Circle” was set aside for their burial. Among these priests is Fr. Conway, later pastors, and sons of the parish. An interesting “factoid” is that all of them were priests of the Cincinnati Archdiocese. The bulletin cover shows the crucifix that marks the Priests’ Circle “Dedicated to the many priests who served St. Patrick Parish.” The maple tree in autumn glory was donated in memory of a young child. This memorial tree is one of many planted in the last 15 years to enhance the beauty of our cemetery. Our parish takes great pride in providing a fitting burial place for our departed loved ones as the burial of the dead is one of the great works of corporal mercy.May the souls of the faithful departed, through the mercy of God, rest in peace.
The Book of the Names of the Dead will be displayed during the month of November near the baptismal font with the burning Easter candle – signs of the Resurrection. You are invited to inscribe the names of your beloved departed in this book. Eternal rest grant unto them, O Lord, and let perpetual light shine upon them.

A Message from Father Hinterschied
We celebrate the dedication of all Catholic churches for two reasons. First, because every Catholic church is, quite truly, the house of God, always present with us in the tabernacle. Second, we celebrate because every church building is an image of the Universal Church – the Mystical Body of Christ. As St. Peter tells us – "You too must be built upon him, stones that live and breathe, into a spiritual fabric; you must be a holy priesthood, to offer up that spiritual sacrifice which God accepts through Jesus Christ" (1 Peter 2:5).
Tomorrow, we will celebrate the 153rd anniversary of the dedication of our beloved St. Patrick, the living sign of Christ's Mystical Body, present in London. Please plan to join us for Mass, as celebrated by our forefathers, according to the ancient Roman Rite.
The beauty and harmony of our church, to give praise to God, also draws us, finite and sinful, to repent and form a well-ordered and intimate communion with Jesus Christ. This happens in a culminating way in the Mass, in which the baptized, come together in a unified way to listen to the Word of God, to participate in the renewal of Christ's Sacrifice, and be nourished by His Body and Blood.
Tomorrow’s feast celebrates a mystery that is always relevant: God’s desire to dwell in the world, in a temple that worships Him in spirit and truth (cf. John 4:23-24). Our community therefore has the duty to take special care of our own sacred building, our precious religious patrimony. May Mary most Holy, intercede for us to become, like her, the “house of God,” living temples of His love and for us to preserve St. Patrick for generations to come.
-Rev. Fr. Michael Hinterschied, Pastor, St. Patrick Church

A Cloud of Witnesses: As we celebrate All Saints Day and the Month of the Holy Souls and recall those “living witnesses” of the joy and peace that living the Catholic life can bring, let us ask for the saints’ intercession for those who are thinking about finding out more about the Church. If you are accompanying someone who wants to know more about the Church, contact Maria Berryhill at 740-852-0972 or [email protected].
St. Patrick Church was well represented at the Walking With Purpose annual meeting held in Powell Tuesday, November 5th. A total of eight women from our parish attended the meeting. “Walking With Purpose is a wonderful way to learn the Word and grow in our relationship with Jesus,” says Pat Weber. There will be a new Walking With Purpose Bible Study beginning in January. For details, contact Denise Zimmerman at [email protected].
