30% of all Christians are Pentecostal or
Charasmatic
Growth rates for the Renewal Movement between 1910-2010 was nearly four times the growth rate
of both Christianity and the world’s population. From 2010-25, it is expected to grow twice as fast as both.
Renewalists were most numerous in Latin America in 2010, but Africa will likely surpass this before 2025.
Over the period 1910-2010, Renewalists grew fastest in Asia. This will likely continue through 2025.
While Charismatics grew faster from 1910-2010, Pentecostals may grow faster from 2010-2025.
~ Vinson Synan, Regent University
According to Todd Johnson and the Pew Forum, there are 2 Billion adherents to Christianity and 614 Million of them are Renewalists (Pentecostals / Charismatics).
Harvey Cox, Harvard University professor, says of Spirit Empowered (Renewalist) Christianity that it is “the fastest growing Christian movement on earth.”
50% of the Renewal Movement is already connected to Empowered21 through leadership involvement.

EMPOWERED21Outlook 2020: The Delphi Study
Over 130 global leaders in the Empowered21 network were invited to participate in a study to determine which issues will most shape the future of Spirit-empowered Christianity. A total of 13 emerging trends were classified according to their probability of occurring by 2020, the level of impact an occurrence would have, and its desirability for the Church.

The study revealed four highly important trends where the Spirit-empowered Church is most likely to grow and positively influence the World:
By 2020, the church will experience a fresh, historic outpouring of the Holy Spirit.
By 2020, there will be an increase in leadership development within Spirit-empowered churches.
By 2020, the Spirit-empowered movement will increasingly be known for meeting human needs in the community.
By 2020, the practice of divine healing will increase among Spirit-empowered churches.
By 2020, Pentecostals will be more open to work with newer expressions of Spirit-empowered ministry.
Empowered21 is actively seeking to meet the needs of the Global Spirit-empowered Church and is working to address each of the top five emerging trends identified by the Outlook 2020 study.

EMPOWERED21From Azusa Street to ORU to the World
April 25-29, 2006 the International Center for Spiritual Renewal facilitated and hosted the Azusa Street Centennial. This one
hundred year anniversary celebration of the Azusa Street revival was attended by over 50,000 people from 106 different nations. The streams of Spirit-filled Christianity converged in Los Angeles to rejoice in a century of blessing on this movement that now numbers over 600 million people around the world.
In 2008, the new Oral Roberts University Board of Trustees began work on clarifying the mission of the university for 21st century
ministry. An initiative was launched by the Board of Trustees called Empowered21 and the International Center for Spiritual Renewal was asked to facilitate this process to focus on new generations and the power of the Holy Spirit. Immediately, it was discerned that the
convergence of these dynamics was leading toward questions and answers that would serve the entire Spirit-filled movement. Empowered21 began to be understood as a natural kingdom-wide follow up to the Azusa Street Centennial. The Azusa Centennial reflected on what God had done for the last 100 years and Empowered21 would focus on the future of the movement.
During 2009 and early 2010, Empowered21 held 17 unique conversation events around the world with leaders,
scholars and new generation voices to ascertain their insights into the issues facing the movement in the 21st Century. Over 500 people from 54 nations and over 15 different universities were involved in the conversations. Questions like: “What does it mean to be Spirit-empowered in the 21st century?” and “What steps can be taken to engage new generations in the Spirit-filled experience?” were asked.
Conversation input and discoveries were used to inform the program of the Empowered21 Global Congress on Holy Spirit
Empowerment which was held in Tulsa, OK April 8- 11, 2010. The Congress focused on shaping the future of the Global Spirit-empowered movement by focusing on crucial issues facing the movement and connecting generations for intergenerational blessing and impartation. Over 10,000 people from 95 nations attended the April Congress where over 210 learning conversations and numerous general session events informed and connected them. It became obvious that the Congress was forming a launch base for further exploration.
The International Center for Spiritual Renewal was asked to lead Empowered21 into the future and Empowered21
was officially transferred to the Center in the summer of 2010. Empowered21 is now witnessing a convergence and collaboration of Spirit-empowered ministries around the world. A series of regional Empowered21 gatherings are forming to focus on unique issues faced by Spirit-empowered churches operating within disparate socioeconomic climates.
Eleven Regional Cabinets are now pursuing initiatives and events in their area of the world to address the future
of Spirit-empowered Christianity and find ways to connect the generations for spiritual impartation. Each regional cabinet will operate under the same vision and purposes for Empowered21 in their region.

Every Empowered21 region has been asked to commit to hosting a regional event the weekend prior to Pentecost Sunday in 2014. The next E21 Global Congress will celebrate Pentecost from Jerusalem in 2015!
In 2012, pulpits all over the world proclaimed the transforming, renewing, empowering truth about the Holy Spirit. Pentecost Sunday became a time to experience the healing, miracles, and strength that the Holy Spirit brings to Christian lives. The Holy Spirit lifts up Jesus and, through Jesus, the world will be saved. This movement is continuing to help churches discover afresh the power of the Holy Spirit on Pentecost Sunday.

On Pentecost Sunday, we celebrated in 117 cities around the country, with an approximate attendance of 21,100 people. People came with reverence, and whole families were together to the altar. We could see the younger generation being filled and worshiping the King of Kings. Everyone at the altar was heartbroken, contrite, and received physical healing (sight, bones), inner healing (joy, freedom, peace, and renovation) and the baptism in the Holy Spirit with the evidence of speaking in other tongues. Two young people quit drugs right there at the altar.
– Argentina
We celebrated Pentecost beginning with 10 days of praying, fasting, and Bible studying prior to that Sunday. We celebrated with two services. Both were packed and people came expecting. After preaching, the Holy Spirit began moving. People (young, adults and children) were weeping, dancing, speaking in tongues, interpreting tongues, falling on the floor, running...it was powerful!!! After the services, people were receiving from the Spirit in their houses and still in awe.
– Puerto Rico
Great service with teenagers and adults being “filled up” and speaking in tongues for the first time. Others were “re-filled up”. Extremely encouraging for whole church.
– Australia
All of a sudden, the congregation started going down one by one on their knees. About 13 people came forward and a wind just blew over them and all of them started opening their mouth and speaking with other tongues. Seven among them were healed. It was a blessing by God.
– Ghana
On Pentecost Sunday we preached the message of the Holy Spirit as power to change our life as He did in the time of the Disciples. More than 250 were filled with the Holy Spirit. Sixty pastors were renewed with God’s power and forty people were healed from different diseases.
– Burundi
We had great services this weekend. It’s the first time we had a full-on celebration of Pentecost Sunday in 24 years of the churches existence. We started a new tradition!
– South Carolina
The fire of Pentecost filled the whole Church and the children were at the altar. People were still there three hours after the service ended waiting for the anointing to lift.
– Michigan
I used the entire month of May to preach on the Power of Pentecost, using some of the tools provided by Empowered21. We had 18 people baptized in the Holy Spirit and are now seeing the results as they are sharing Christ with their friends and families.

j A Local Church Experience to Connect the Generations i
The Empowered21 Generations Weekend Experience is designed to provide a replicable model for local churches to answer the cry from new generations for spiritual fathers and mothers. The goal of providing intergenerational relationship opportunities is ultimately for mentoring to take place and spiritual parenting to be experienced.
The weekend contains worship, teaching, fun, food, fellowship and impartation moments. A variety of presentation styles including small group discussion, teaching, music, fellowship, expert panels, and individual interaction are used to engage the participants. The weekend is intentional in connecting the generations.
Grace North Foursquare Church in Anthem, Arizona helped conduct the first Generations Weekend with 100 people in attendance. Three generations were engaged; the youngest participant being 15 years old and the oldest 78.
j A Local Church Experience to Connect the Generations i
The Generations Weekend Experience will be tested further this year in other congregations with the goal being to produce a Weekend Experience resource for churches to use to live out Empowered21 among their constituency.
The Generations Weekend Experience is designed for broad local church participation, anticipating that Spirit-empowered churches around the world will utilize this tool.
Three variables were measured. Each showed signiciant improvement upon completion of the Weekend Experience:
(1) An Increased Understanding of the Biblical Terminology and Process for Intergenerational
Mentoring
(2) An Increased Sense of Personal Well-Being and Enrichment Through
Increased Intergenerational Connections
(3) An Increased Desire for and Intentionality Toward Intergenerational Relationships.

The first Empowered21 Middle East meeting was held in Nicosia Cyprus in April, 2011. Leaders gathered from across the Middle East. Many met for the first time. Because of prevalent religious persecution toward Christians in some regions, many of the leaders are risking their lives to be a part of this movement. The cabinet discussed how Empowered21 Middle East could help bring a great harvest in the midst of unrest and turmoil.

“Spirit-empowered leaders have—and will—change the world. Bringing together intergenerational, multi-denominational leaders to bless a new generation with the power of the Holy Spirit is a transformational opportunity.”
Dr. Carlos Campo, President of Regent University
Churches in the United States continue to serve a critical role in advancing the Spirit Empowered
movement through leadership, funding, media, and modeling. Early in 2012, a Summit called Converge21 USA brought together leaders, scholars, and next generation voices in an intimate three days.

Empowered21 USA, in partnership with the Society for Pentecostal Studies, brought select leaders, scholars and
next generation voices together at Converge21 USA at Regent University and Rock Church in Virginia Beach.
The four days featured high-impact general sessions, as well as 100 practical learning
conversations and workshops, attended by more than 800 registrants.
At the concluding Impartation Service, Tim Ross said, “Converge21
was an incredible amalgam of wisdom, passion, and intellect. As a Next Gen leader I felt a deep sense of responsibility to honor the Pentecostal tradition of our spiritual fathers/mothers and a very
strong conviction to preach and teach sound theology.”
Reverend Samuel Rodriguez, President of the National
Hispanic Christian Leadership Conference, said, “Converge21
provided a historic multi-ethnic and multi-generational platform for
the Spirit-empowered American church. I stand convinced that as this generation
touches God, He will rise up and touch the next generation. God is not done with America!”

WHEREAS a major contributor to the erosion of Biblical Christianity in America has been the loss of a clear understanding of and commitment to the Biblical teachings and practices of the person, immediacy, and power of the Holy Spirit; and
WHEREAS some Pentecostal and Charismatic Christian communities in America are experiencing an increase in Biblical illiteracy, a decreased desire for holiness, a lack of the fear of God, and significant moral and leadership failure; and
WHEREAS a significant gap exists between the aging leadership of many Spirit-empowered communities and the leadership formation and empowerment of students and young adults; and
WHEREAS a separation continues to exist between scholarship on the Holy Spirit and the praxis of Spirit-empowered communities; and
WHEREAS many Pentecostal and Charismatic Christian communities report a decrease in Christ-centered, Spirit-filled, mission awareness and involvement at home and abroad; now
THEREFORE, BE IT RESOLVED that the Empowered 21 USA gathering of scholars, Christian leaders, and next generation voices held at Regent University in Virginia Beach, VA, February 29 – March 3, 2012, affirms its unmoving belief in and commitment to the Biblical teaching of the holiness, immediacy, and power of the Spirit of God and the Spirit’s empowerment of the Christian life and community (1 Corinthians 2:13); and
BE IT RESOLVED that we recommit ourselves to humbly seeking the fear of God (Acts 9:31) by immersing ourselves in His Holy Word (Hebrews 4:12) and cultivating the desire for a renewed holiness that His Spirit brings (Romans 1:4); and
resolution
BE IT RESOLVED that we will endeavor to answer the cry of the next generation for spiritual fathers and mothers by serving them through training, guidance, and modeling a complete surrender to the work of the Holy Spirit (Habakkuk 3:2); and
BE IT RESOLVED that we will seek to further our understanding and cooperation with the Spirit of God through a commitment to both scholarship and practice, recognizing that they both are empowered and guided by the same Holy Spirit (2 Timothy 2:15); and
BE IT RESOLVED that we will revere and utilize Pentecost Sunday of each year for teaching and preaching on the Holy Spirit, inviting every generation to experience the Spirit; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we will discern and develop a framework for Spirit-empowered discipleship, which will include age and stage outcome-based benchmarks of what a Spirit-empowered, Christ follower “looks like” and “lives like”; and
BE IT RESOLVED that we will boldly obey the call of Christ to make disciples of all nations (Matthew 28: 18-20), proclaiming God’s Kingdom, God’s liberation, and God’s justice to the “least of these” (Matthew 25:40), while affirming that it is not by might nor by power but by God’s Spirit that God’s mission is fulfilled (Zach 4:6, Mark 16:17-18, Acts 1:8), and
BE IT FINALLY RESOLVED that we will unite together around the vision:
That every person in the United States of America and on earth would have an authentic encounter with
JESUS CHRIST through the power and presence of the Holy Spirit
by Pentecost 2033.
This resolution was drafted during the Converge21 USA meeting. First signed by attendees at the concluding Commissioning Service, it continues to be endorsed by people all over the United States at Empowered21.com .
