Useful but not very effective!
Alternatively utilise EPC approach:
similar to Breeam but less biased;
calculates performance of structure,
fabric and services uses iSBEM
modelling.
Good for existing premises
Calculates best improvements
for least costs

Efficient energy use
Reduce energy need
VENTILATION AS AN EXAMPLE:
Guidance on ventilation changed
Considerably since 2006
Mott MacDonald undertook major study on naturally vented classrooms:
Windows DO provide adequate ventilation to meet requirements under various legislation
50% of classrooms under ventilated because windows not used!
Perception issues identified
Solution: Old fashioned operable windows!
Example: Sheffield PFI 2 secondary and 2 primary schools
Once installed the team trained and guided staff and pupils on effective use

“Our GCSE results and the fact that our students finished top of the national league tables for progress can rightly be attributed to the impact the building has had on their studies.”

> Challenge the standard norm
BEWARE!
