From the Principal

Responsible, Safe and Respectful Our focus at CVPS this week is:

Be Responsible - take care of your belongings

NAPLAN During this week our students in Years 3 and 5 will be completing their Naplan Tests. Today saw the students complete the Language Conventions and the Writing tests. Tomorrow they will complete the Reading test and finish off on Thursday with Mathematics. Our students are completing these tests using pen and paper again this year. I would like to congratulate every one of them for the effort they are putting into the task. We know that they are doing their best. We also know how committed they are to learning all of the knowledge that is necessary for them to grow up and become successful members of society. I wish all our students well in their achievements and their final results. Kindergarten 2019 - Parent Information Meeting Do you have a child starting kindergarten next year? We invite you to attend our first parent information meeting this Thursday, between 5:30-6:30 in the School Hall. Enrolment packs will be available for pick up at this meeting. Childminding is also available. Come and join us and find out more about what's in store for our Transition Program this year. Positive Behaviour for Learning It's with great excitement that I announce that last week the staff voted to embrace Positive Behaviour for Learning (PBL). PBL is an evidence-based whole school process to improve learning outcomes for all students. This whole school systems approach;

addresses the diverse academic and social needs of every student to support them to be successful

enables us to establish a continuum of supports that are intensified to meet the needs of every student

is team driven, using a problem solving approach (data, systems and practices) that engages students, parents and all school staff

establishes positive social expectations for all in the school community

provides a framework for the school and our community to collectively support the wellbeing of every student.

BounceBack! Attached is our supplementary newsletter on what the classes learnt about and discussed during their Bounce Back lessons last term. Bounce Back is our positive approach to wellbeing, resilience and social-emotional learning, and supports us in our efforts to promote positive mental health, wellbeing and resilience for both students and teachers while building safe and supportive class and our school learning environment. Brock off to Batemans Bay! Congratulations to Brock Roe who was selected into the Western AFL team to compete at the New South Wales PSSA State Championships at Batemans Bay next week. We wish him all the very best! Year 5 Opportunity Class placement for 2019 Online applications for Year 5 Opportunity Class placement in 2019 opened last Tuesday and will close at 10 pm on Friday 18 May 2018. A reminder to those parents who have indicated their intention to apply but have not done so that they should apply as quickly as possible. Late applications will not be accepted. Year One and Two need your help! We have planned some very exciting lessons for Stage One this term, however, we are in need of some equipment to do them successfully! In History, we are creating our personal timelines. We ask that each student please bring to school a baby photo and a toddler photo. It would also be helpful if you talk to your child about some personal stories that are relevant to them. Things like “You learnt to walk when you were one”, “We went on a family holiday when you were three”, “You got your first tooth at 6 months”. This information will be used in class to form part of our History lessons and create our timelines. We also have some exciting Science experiments planned as part of our study of Weather this term. If you are able to provide your child’s class teacher with some of the following items it would be very much appreciated! Clear drinking straws, pencils with rubbers on the end, plastic 1.25L or 2L bottles, medium to large glass jars with lids, paddle pop sticks. Thank you Year One and Two Teachers

CVPS Dance Groups Last Thursday our Infants and Primary dance groups competed in the 38

th

Gulgong Prince of Wales Eisteddfod. 17 students performed in the infants group and 13 students performed in the primary group. All students demonstrate great commitment as they meet each Thursday at either recess or lunch to rehearse. In the last two weeks they have shown incredible dedication as they have given up either their recess or lunch play to rehearse every day leading up to the Eisteddfod. And this commitment has paid off – the primary group was awarded third place and the infants group came in at first place! This is an enormous achievement as they were performing against 4 other dance groups. I want to take the opportunity to thank all the fabulous mums who took the time to help out with hair, make-up and transport for the dancers last Thursday. But a HUGE thank you must go to Miss Haley Priest of Dance Unlimited who gives her time to the school every Thursday to choreograph and support us through the eisteddfod and other performances throughout the year. I am very proud of all the students involved! Elise Tritton
