Parish Staff Changes We wanted to make you aware of have some changes in our of-fice staff. Mark Vojas, Jr. will be joining Ss. Peter & Paul on June 22 as Faith Formation Coordinator. Mark most recently served as Pastoral Associate, Service and Outreach, at St. John the Evan-gelist parish in St. John, Indiana. He previously served at Ss. Peter & Paul as faith formation and communication assistant. Mark attended Marian University in In-dianapolis and Bishop Simon Bruté College Seminary and has a Bachelor’s degree in Philosophy, and minors in Communication and Theology. Deacon Jimmy Ghiglione has resigned as Director, Faith For-mation due to personal reasons. He will continue to serve our parish as a Deacon.
From the Desk Of Fr. John Welcome Back! The quick start we tried last week seemed to go fairly well. It took many helpers and volunteers to put all the pieces to-gether. Thank you to all those who were/are will-ing to help and take leadership roles…and all those who are doing the tasks of keeping things sanitized and ready for all of us to gather. God bless you! We are celebrating Mass…on Saturday, 4 pm and live streaming the it for those who cannot attend. We are also offering 10:30 am Mass on Sunday morning, which will… not…be broad-cast. We want to make sure that all areas of the church will be sanitized between services and a team of volunteers will take care to do that sani-tation in the proper way. We may be able to in-clude the 8 am Mass in the future as we discover the demands on our volunteer workers and the time-frame between the liturgies. Ms. Patricia held one of her last faculty meet-ings last week. It was time to celebrate the successful completion of the school year…reflect on the challenges that everyone had to face…and the great dedication of the teachers and leadership that met the challenge. Thank you especially to Ms. Kirk for her vision…hard work…encouragement to the staff and parents during this testing time. The teachers and staff presented Ms. Kirk with a gift of ‘scrip’ that will help her in her transition to her new home…in Effingham where she grew-up. The parish staff presented her with a picture of Jesus talking with the children and a phrase from a prayer she used every day at the beginning of the school day with the students. Thank you again Ms. Kirk for your tireless efforts to lift us up, strengthen our academic life and increase our trust in the Lord through prayer and good works. Trinity Sunday we celebrated the great mys-tery of God revealing himself to us as Father, Son and Holy Spirit…three persons…One God. They are the perfect community into which we are all baptized. We have been welcomed into that unique divine life of perfect unity. The mystery of God will not be able to be compre-hended by us…much as the mystery of love in our relationships here on earth. But God has giv-
en us the gift of revealing Himself to us through Jesus…and the power of the Holy Spirit. The Gospel of last Sunday gave us an insight into the challenge of understanding God’s mar-velous revelation through Jesus. It was an en-counter with a man named Nicodemus. He had many questions, but was limited in only under-standing things he had been taught…his own way of reasoning. Jesus was stretching his mind and heart to see God’s revelation…way beyond our human understanding. How many times have found ourselves saying… ‘I can’t believe it!’ We realize that somethings just stretch our understanding…just like this whole Pandemic. But, we realize that it is true beyond our own understanding. The revelation this past week…took us beyond human reason-ing…it now lifts us into divine revelation. Jesus opens us to see God in Him…in His person…in His words…in His actions…God is LOVE. As we move into the Solemnity of the Feast of the Blessed Sacrament… ‘The Most Holy Body and Blood of Christ’…which we com-monly call ‘Corpus Christi’…we again face the challenge of trusting faith. Jesus shares some-thing so very special at the Last Supper and en-trusts it to His disciples…to the Church. He es-tablishes a ‘New Covenant’ in His own offering of His body and blood on the cross and makes it a gift to us. The early Church would call this…according to St. Luke… ‘The Breaking of the Bread.’ They heard the words of Jesus saying to His disci-ples…as He broke the bread and shared it with them… ‘Take and eat…this is my Body.’ It was His own offering…the offering of Himself on the cross…that He was referring to. Now He was giving that gift to them…the gift of Himself…flesh and blood as food for eternal life. We hear Him say in John’s Gospel… ‘Unless you eat the flesh of the Son of Man and Drink His blood you have no life in you’..We gather and reverently receive this gift of Jesus…the gift of His own life! Now we are to carry that gift into our world…God’s love for every person!
