Without diversity, without weirdness, without difference, without tolerance, a city will die. Cities don't need shopping malls and convention centres to be economically successful, they need eccentric and creative people.’
Richard Florida:The Rise of the Creative Class 2002
Cities—and humanity—thrive when intelligent, motivated people work in close proximity for collaboration and competition; they demonstrate the effect of having a strong intellectual community for encouraging innovation
Cities magnify humanities strengths. They spur innovation by facilitating face to face interaction, they attract talent, they encourage entrepreneurship, and allow for economic and social mobility
Edward Glaeser. Triumph Of The City: How Our Greatest Invention Makes Us Richer, Smarter, Greener, Healthier And Happier
Jacobs advocated a dense and mixed-use urban aesthetic that would preserve the uniqueness inherent in individual neighborhoods.
Her aesthetic can be considered opposite to that of the modernists, upholding redundancy and vibrancy, against order and efficiency.
