The desert receives less than 10 inches of rain each year. In a
hot desert, the main precipitation is rain. In a cold desert, the
main precipitation is snow or fog. Precipitation is very seldom in
the desert.
Slide 4
The Desert is very dry and hot, with a temperature of over 100
F. During the night, the temperature can get as low as 40 F. The
humidity ranges from 10 to 20 percent each day The temperature can
get very hot during the day, but cold at night.

The three most common natural disasters in a desert are:

Nocturnal, or live Underground Birds are Nomadic (Migrate) Some
animals live underground where it is cold and not in the climate
aboveground. Some desert animals are nocturnal because its cooler
at night than it is during daylight hours.

Underground Cacti Store Water The outside of the cactus is fleshy
and spongy with thorns. The cactus stores water when it rains it
expands and stores the water that flows through the fleshy outside
layer Most desert plants live over 100 years.

Slide 11
The soils are course textured, shallow, or rocky with good
drainage. Some of the plants have extensive root systems close to
the surface where they can take advantage of any rain showers.
Slide 12
Plants with thick stems can take in large quantities of water
when it is available. Deserts Agriculture with vast plant life.
During the Stone Age Native Americans live in caves like this in
the desert.
Slide 13
Deserts ecologys are changing because global warming is causing
higher temperatures that increase the number of wildfires that
alter desert landscape. Global warming is taking away desert plant
life and replacing it with grasses.
