voking Hadith: “A time willcome when Muslims will fol-low a people so much so, thatif they were to go into alizard’s hole the Muslims willfollow.” When asked who thepeople are, the Prophet(PBUH) answered, “The Jewsand Christians (lifestyle of to-day vs. lifestyle of ProphetMoses and Jesus Peace BeUpon Them).” Please do NOTmisunderstand this as a criti-cism of Jews and Chris-tians—it is not. It is a directcriticism of Muslims, meaningthat “weak Muslims” who donot follow the Quran (God’slaws) and Sunnah (examplesfrom the life of ProphetMuhammad, (PBUH) will eas-ily be led astray by the peopleof today. Prophet Muhammad
(PBUH) said, “If we hold ontothe Quran and Sunnah we willnot go astray.” Look at ourlifestyle. Do we have our dayprogrammed around salat(prayer), or around society? We wake up, eat breakfast, take a shower, go to work, takethe kids to school, etc. with-out a thought of God. AnotherHadith says: “When a persongoes to sleep, Satan ties 3 knotsaround his or her neck. Whenthat person wakes up and re-members Allah right away (Al-Hamdulillah!), the 1st knot isloosened. When he goes tomake Wudhu, the 2nd knot isloosened. And when he prayshis salat, the 3rd knot is loos-ened.” We are given energyand protection from Satan forthe day. In yet another Hadithwe are told that when we don’tremember Allah 1st thing in the
morning, our day will be long, hard, depressing and stressful. We will have no energy. Sa-tan keeps us tied up! AnotherHadith says that when the dayhas begun and a person readsSurah Ya Sin (Chapter 36 ofthe Holy Quran, also knownas the “heart of the Quran”),Allah will cause that person toaccomplish whatever he needsto accomplish that day withease. In 62:9 of the Qur’aan,God tells us to “hasten to theremembrance of Allah.”Scholars say this refers to the“Khutbah” (sermon/reminder/Zhikr delivered before “JumuaSalat” which is the obligatoryFriday congregational prayer.)How is our life built aroundSaturday and Sunday. Do weobserve our Friday Sabbathday, or do we have our reli-gious program on Saturday/Jewish Sabbath and Sunday/Christian Sabbath? Many of uscome late to Jumua, and manydon’t come at all.

religious and ethnic communities. The wonderful stories hap-pen as well but they don’t make the news. I would like toshare two such stories with you. Last Spring the British publi-cation of The Huffington Post ran a story about a synagoguein the English town of Bradford. That Jewish community hasonly thirty members left. The synagogue, built in 1880, hasbeen in disrepair and the community is too small to be able toafford the repairs to their house of worship. The situationseemed dire and it looked like the synagogue was going to haveto be closed. But the Bradford Council of Muslims came to-gether to offer their support for the synagogue. One success-ful Muslim businessman in particular came forward with agenerous donation to repair the synagogue which enabled it toremain open. A representative of the Muslim community de-clared that this act represented the true spirit of how Islamviews other People of the Book. The leaders of the two com-munities have developed such a warm relationship that nowwhen the leader of the Jewish community goes on vacation hegives the keys and the alarm code to the leader of the Muslimcommunity to keep an eye on the synagogue.

The Qur‘an is in the form of addresseswhich were revealed by God on differentoccasions, starting from the time when the
Helping Each Other
Prophet (S.A.W) made his first call to the people to submit tothe Religion of God, and continuing till the Prophet (S.A.W)completed his task in the form of a society fully organized, well integrated and patterned with all the basic institutions. Ev-ery address was suited to the occasion at which it was made. The Qur‘an concentrated on the content during the Meccanperiod and on content and form both, during the Medinese pe-riod. For an institution to be workable and thoroughly practi-cable, it is necessary that it should be practically demonstrated. However detailed the description of an institution may be, itcannot be practicable unless it is practically demonstrated. Prac-tical demonstration in laboratory is a must. The Anthropolo-gists, on the basis of their study of different societies haveobserved that people do not think logically during their socialbehavior. They simply act in the manner of their predecessors.Logical thinking before action is possible only in case of theperson who has got thorough knowledge of all the traits of hisculture, interrelationship of the institutions and their objectsand basic philosophies.

life, Islam, guidance, families, sustenance, health, protection, wis-dom, and so much more. His bounties are surely overwhelming andwe should always be grateful for all that He has blessed us with. Allah(SWT) gives us life every morning and allows us to open our eyesand get out of bed, which in itself is such a blessing we take forgranted. There are many blessings that are not always apparent tous, and many blessings we take for granted. Our good health is sucha great blessing that we sometimes assume it will always stay thatway. “Every joint of every limb, every beat of the heart, every breath,is a favor from Allah (SWT). His blessings are too many to count, letalone repay (Quran 16:18)”. Many of us are in good health(alhamdulilah) and we are at that stage where we do not have toworry about “old age” related ailments (arthritis, aches, pain, forget-fulness etc.); or other sicknesses and disabilities. However, manyothers struggle with these conditions. “Make the most of your life beforedeath. Make the most of your health before your sickness. Make the mostof your free time before you become busy. Make the most of your wealth, before you become poor. Make the most of your youth, before you becomeold. - (Prophet Muhammad (SAW) We may have, or know of familymembers, friends and others in our community, both young and old,who are sick, disabled, hospitalized, immobile, blind, diabetic, Alzheimerstricken, heart problems, strokes, etc.

[Sahih Muslim: Book4, Book Name KitabAl-Salat, Number0775] - Abu Huraira(RA) reported: The
Apostle of Allaah (SAW) said: If anyoneobserves prayer in which he does notrecite Umm ul-Qur’an (Surah Fatiha), Itis deficient [he said this three times] andnot complete. Then, it was asked of AbuHuraira (RA): What are we to do at timeswhen we are behind the Imam? He said:Recite it inwardly (quietly to yourself),for he had heard the Messenger of Allaah(SAW) declare that Allaah SWT had said:“I have divided the prayer into two halvesbetween Me and My servant, and My ser-vant will receive what he asks. When theservant says: Praise be to Allaah, the Lordof the universe, Allaah the Most Highsays: My servant has praised Me. Andwhen he (the servant) says: The MostCompassionate, the Merciful, Allaah theMost High says: My servant has laudedMe. And when he (the servant) says:Master of the Day of Judgment, He re-
marks: My servant has glorified Me; andsometimes He would say: My servant en-trusted (his affairs) to Me. And when he(the worshipper) says: Thee do we wor-ship and of Thee do we ask for help, He(Allaah) says: This is between Me andMy servant, and My servant will receivewhat he asks for. Then, when he (theworshipper) says: Guide us to the straightpath, the path of those to whom Thouhast been Gracious not of those who haveincurred Thy displeasure, nor of thosewho have gone astray, He (Allaah) says:This is for My servant, and My servantwill receive what he asks for.”A reminder to all of us: And abandonopen and secret sin; surely they who earnsin shall be recompensed with what theyearned. (Surah Al-An’am : Ayah 120)Duaa (a prayer) - My Lord! Grant methat I should be grateful for Your favorwhich You have bestowed on me and onmy parents, and that I should do goodsuch as You are pleased with, and makeme enter, by Your mercy, into Your ser-vants, the good ones. Ameen!
DUAS(SUPPLICATION)For Others (Part 1)
The first of two partson making duas for others will be dealtwith in this article. In this world, we donot live in isolation but rather as a com-munity, therefore it’s imperative for Mus-lims that in making a closing dua, in addi-tion to pleading to Allah for our own sal-vation, we should at least ask Allah to ex-tend a helping hand to others of the Mus-lim ummah or community. Therefore, inorder to illuminate our lives with the Noorof Allah, our closing dua should addition-ally reflect a supplication for all Muslimbrothers and sisters, some examples ofwhich, each one beginning with thewords “YA ALLAH” are:•Extricate my ummah from the moralquagmire they are immersed in.•Remove any obstacles lying in mypeople’s path that may impede their de-velopment.•Remove the veils from their eyes so theymay clearly see the Islamic road to travel.

RAISING CHILDRENin an
ALIEN CULTUREAs we raise our children in a sup-posedly modern and alien culture,we have plenty of things to worryabout. Should we allow them to gocandy hunting on Halloween, is itokay to say “Merry Christmas” toa Christian acquaintance, should wego to masjid more often and whatnot. I have become more confusedabout what is right and what is notsince I have had kids. Before Iknew I was strong believer andeven if I said “Merry Christmas”or had non-Muslim Americanfriends, it did not really matter thatmuch but once kids are involved, you become extra careful as to whoyou mingle with and what festivalsyou celebrate. This is where” Deen”really helps us out. I figured, in ourhearts, we must know that we willnever be too open as to allow allfilth in without any sort of filter andalso we shall never be so close-minded that nothing new or freshwould ever make its way into ourminds. Once you decide that, therest should not be really hard. Donot allow your mind to be like adefective door which is either al-ways open or always close. I haveseen people who are okay commu-nicating with and hanging out withgays simply because they feel it’sagainst rules of civil and humanetreatment to shut them out. Tothose, I try to explain that itwouldn’t be humane to hurt or harmthem but it is exceptionally impor-tant that you keep your distance toshow Allah you respect His deci-sion on people with unnaturalsexual preferences. Similarly whilea Christmas tree in your living roommight sound harmless to you, itsends a wrong message to yourlittle child who might assume thatif it’s okay to bring in Christmastree, it might also be okay to talkabout Jesus’ birth and how it re-lates to Christmas etc.Continued on Page 15, Inshaa Allaah

A slave, a king, and a free manmeet in a bar.
This is the joke which definesA menace, a proverbial civilization -
A mission and a ghost.Silver earnings fall in a square
jar and not round.
A Veil to Guise Poem written by: Sis. Staci Brody
This is the war cry which stems from oppression, inherited,This is my sword which enjoins five fleshy fingers.
A reflection of sorts, a beseeching -My jihadist, swirl your contentment to illuminate:
A menace, a proverbial civilization -Silver earnings fall in a square jar and not round.
This is the war cry which stems from oppression, inherited.Thou shalt not wear a veil to guise.

You need to draw a line some-where and that line must bevery clear to you and yourchildren. Let your child’steacher know it’s okay to tellhim about various festivals butwhen she is doing that, can sheplease also tell the other kidsabout Eid. And also can sheplease clarify to the childrenthat not all people celebrate allfestivals and some festivals areunique to some culture andreligions? In most cases, teachers listen and they arevery sensitive to such issues. If you bring this up, it wouldalso show the teacher that youare truly invested in yourchild’s upbringing, you careabout what he learns in schooland that if something wrongis ever taught, you will not takeit lightly. Children are superadaptable to your lifestyle ifyou let them be. If you prayfive times a day, it becomes

something normal and regu-lar to them and so does stay-ing away from certain thingslike eating non-halal chickenor forbidding certain candies. We worry that our childrenmight become too closeminded and hence allow themto get involved in things likeegg hunting on Easter and soon but the truth is that chil-dren are very adaptable andunderstand their house ruleseasily once they are younger. That is the age when you startdifferentiating right and wrongfor them so they are less likelyto challenge them as theygrow older. But if you let themdo whatever they choose todo today, they might find it ex-ceptionally hard to adopt a dif-ferent lifestyle as they are olderand when you want them tobecome better Muslims.

In our Episcopal Church, as wellas within many mainline ChristianChurches, we are now in the Sea-
son of Epiphany. Our new church year began withAdvent (4 weeks prior to Christmas) and we thencelebrated Christmas, which lasted 12 days. OnJanuary 6th, we began the beautiful season ofEpiphany, which will last until Ash Wednesday, when we begin the Season of Lent. The actual dayof January 6th is known as Epiphany, or ThreeKings. It celebrates the day that the three kingsjourneyed to and visited with the Christ Child.Epiphany is also known as Theophany, which liter-ally translates as “Vision of God.” While the threekings may have had their Epiphany, or vision ofGod, we too have hopefully had such moments inour lives. In contemporary language, we often usethe word epiphany to refer to “a sudden realiza-tion,” or a “leap of understanding.” If you will, such epiphanies are those “AHA!” moments in ourlives. Those times when the grace of God breaksthrough and touches us in such a way that weclearly know God exists. Such moments can leadus through those desperate moments of doubt andconfusion…they are the light unto our paths. As Iwrite this article, our nation has just celebrated theremembrance of Rev. Dr. Martin Luther King Jr.Here was a man who clearly had his “Epiphanymoments” which touched the hearts of many, sothat they too could open their hearts/souls to re-ceive a Vision of God…a dream that would becomereality and change the history of our nation. Sucha dream spoke clearly of a vision of “ALLPEOPLES” coming together as ONE. I and manyothers in my church had a wonderful “EpiphanyMoment” this past weekend. On Saturday, Janu-ary 18th, we celebrated my Installation Ceremonyas new Priest-in-Charge at St. James the Fisher-man Episcopal Church in Islamorada, Florida. Whilethere were many wonderful “moments to remem-ber” during the celebration, I believe that all willfor quite some time remember the presence andinspiring words of Sheik Shafayat Mohammad.Towards the end of our celebration, he shared afew words. In so doing, he stressed the impor-tance of ALL OF US coming together. He spoke ofhow our world is crying out for better understand-ing of other people’s cultures, beliefs, faith stances.

Dehydration is themost common fluidand electrolyte distur-bance among the eld-erly population. Manyunnecessary hospital-izations are associated

with dehydration and the consequencescan be detrimental. The elderly are espe-cially at risk due to many physiologicalchanges associated with age, medicationssuch as diuretics, and other chronic dis-eases. Diarrhea, blood loss, and exces-sive sweating can also increase water loss.Staying hydrated, especially in Florida’shot summer weather where the tempera-tures can reach close to 100 degrees, isthe key to prevention. The body is com-posed of 70% water. Dehydration, ornegative water balance, occurs when morewater is lost than is retained. Negativewater balance results in a decrease in allsecretions. This “drying out” of tissuesand organs, including muscles and joints, may also lead to premature aging. Severedehydration can cause decreased level ofconsciousness, weak/rapid pulse, lowblood pressure, convulsions, and othersymptoms. All of which can be life threat-ening.Causes of dehydration:The primary cause of dehydration in theolder adult is inadequate water intake. Aswe age, our body becomes less aware ofthirst. Our bodies feel thirst less keenlyand our ability to be aware of thirst be-comes blunted. This increases the chancesof consuming less water and conse-quently suffering from dehydration. An-other cause of dehydration in the elderlyis decrease muscle mass. Muscle containsmore water than fat and after age 60 ourmuscle/fat proportion decreases by 50%.Our kidney function also decreases as weage. This means the kidneys become lessefficient in removing toxins, retainingwater, and concentrating urine.

His words seemed to echoback to the Qur’an: “Let therebe no compulsion in religion.Truth stands out clear fromerror; whoever rejects evil andbelieves in God has graspedthe most trustworthy hand-hold that never breaks, andGod hears and knows allthings. (The Qur ’an, Al-Baqarah, 2:256) Many devoutChristians left hat church withan Epiphany moment…eachhaving a sudden realizationthat Allah was the same Godthat they worship here in theirEpiscopal Church. However, the true test will come in howthey continue to live out theirfaith concretely each and ev-ery day of their lives. As Rev.Dr. Martin Luther Kingshared, “Let no one give youthe impression that the prob-lem of racial/social injusticewill work itself out. Let no-body give you the impressionthat only time will solve theproblem.” May Our GraciousGod continue to give usEpiphanies…Theophanies…AHAMoments, that we may be in-struments of compassion, love and change in our world.

I grew up in a medium-sized city located in theMid-West, and I never imagined my life beingwhere it is today. Although, what I always knewfrom an early age, I would end up marryingsomeone who was not from my hometown, but never imagined being with someone of adifferent faith background. My life changeddramatically last January when I traveled toFlorida for the first time to meet my now hus-band for the first time. We maintained in themonths prior a long distance friendship where he would openly talkabout his faith, I would ask questions, and he would answer. He wouldcontinually use words in Arabic that often needed translation, and hewould often read passages from the Koran to me over the phone. Ibecame more and more curious to meet this man in S. Florida. Duringmy first visit with him we would have many a discussions about Theol-ogy and Islam. Little did I know at the time he introduced me to areligion so beautiful, that the religion would help me heal. I converted atthe end of February last year, and realized this would begin the lifelongjourney of being Muslim. Upon taking my declaration of faith I knewfrom that moment forward my life would be challenged in many ways, but I also knew being a Muslim would bring out the best possible me. Ihave often been asked since my conversion if my husband was thereason why I became Muslim. Truth is, my husband introduced me tothe religion, but he did not ultimately have say or influence as to whetheror not I should convert. I made the decision ultimately to convert be-cause it was and has been the only religion I have practiced that hashelped me heal and be at peace with myself. Since my conversion mylife has taken a new meaning and direction and I could not be moreblessed!

For many, these ailments are a life-altering event. Their normal dailyactivities and chores become chal-lenging and strenuous. They nowhave to incorporate their ailmentsand disabilities into their daily rou-tine. They are unable to fulfill plansthey made for retirement and thefuture. Their perspective on lifechanges. These are real people, withreal pain, suffering and disabilities. They are the brother who is boundin a wheelchair, or the sister whohas lost her eyesight, or the sisterwho is in constant physical pain. They are all reminders to all of ushow much we should appreciate ourhealth and understand how pre-cious it is, and how precious timeis. When we see the aged sisterstruggling to recognize her ownchild, we need to appreciate ouryouth. Only when we fall ill, werealize our health is a great bless-ing from Allah (SWT). For those of uswho enjoy good health, youthand time, let us all be thankfulto Allah (SWT) and use itwisely to do more good forHis pleasure. Islam has the principle of zakat. Among the people eli-gible to receive zakat are non-Muslims who are sympa-thetic towards Islam. Judaism, too, has a principle ofhelping others. The word in Hebrew is tzedakah. TheTalmud itself demands that Jews offer support to thosewho are not Jewish who are in need. This past Octoberan Islamic community center in a suburb of London wasburned in an arson attack. Leaders and members of theMuswell Hill Synagogue came forward not only to ex-press words of solidarity and support but offered finan-cial support to help the Islamic center recover and re-build. When you read the stories of how much Muslimshave animosity for Jews—you KNOW it is not true be-cause you are Muslims and you know that you do notharbor these anti-Jewish feelings. When you read sto-ries about how much Jews have animosity for Muslims—well, here is an example of a story of how that is not trueeither. Sure there are hostile members within each ofour communities. But there are far more members ofboth of our communities who have respect for each other, taking concrete actions to bring peace to their communi-ties, peace to all of us.

Linton says: “One school of an-thropologists has devoted muchtime and erudition to proving thatuncivilized people do not thinklogically. This is essentially cor-rect, the only error being that nei-ther do civilized ones. Both ap-ply logic when it is necessary forthe attainment of particular ends, but neither civilized nor uncivi-lized apply it habitually, or undernormal conditions, use it to testmutual consistency of the ele-ments of culture to which theyhave been reared.”(Linton; Ralph:The Study of Man,p.362) If theQur‘an had itself described all theprinciples and details of Islamicsociety and culture, Islam wouldhave not been practicable, at leastfor a common man. It wouldhave been the concern of schol-ars alone and that, too, with prac-tical limitations.Legislative Functions of theQur‘an - Although as professorFitzgerald says in his book titledas ‘Muhammadan Law: “TheQur`an is an eloquent appeal (toMuslim ears a miracle of elo-quence) to mankind and to theArabs in particular, to obey thelaw of God which, it is (in themain) implied, has already beenrevealed or capable of beingdiscovered”.Yet, the Quran hasinfluenced the creation of Islamiclegal system in the followingways: (a)The Prophet (S.A.W)faced legal problems and so didhis companions and the Qur‘anprovided guidance. It gave suchtexts which possess a definitelegal element. There are aboutfive hundred such texts. (B)Non-legal texts in the Qur‘an, moralexhortations, and Divine Prom-ises have been construed by rea-soning to afford legal rules.

Also, chronic conditions such asuncontrolled hypertension anddiabetes cause damage to the kid-neys. That is why it is so impor-tant to maintain diabetes andblood pressure control. Recog-nize the symptoms. It is impor-tant to recognize the symptomsof being dehydrated. Mild dehy-dration will cause dryness of themouth, dry tongue, and thicksaliva. You may be unable tournite or have a small amount ofurine. You may also have cramp-ing of the limbs, headache, weakness, fatigue and irritabil-ity.Tips to staying hydrated:-Drink five 8 oz glasses of wa-ter per day (1 bottled water=16oz). A good formula you canuse is to drink one-third yourbody weight. For example, a 150lbs. person should drink about50 oz of water a day (or aboutsix 8 oz glasses).-Have water by your side at alltimes.-Don’t wait until you’re thirsty. The thirst sensation means thebody is already dehydrated. Re-member thirst gets blunted as weage!-Sports drinks can be helpful fora quick replenishment of fluidand electrolytes, but be carefulof the added sugars.-Your urine should be close toclear. Dark concentrated urinecan be a sign of dehydration.-Severe dehydration requiresmedical attention. If you seesigns or suspect severe dehydra-tion, call your doctor.

Question:Question:Question:Question:Question: What does Islam say about anger?
WHAT DOES ISLAM SAYABOUT ANGER?
Answer:Answer:Answer:Answer:Answer: Anger is a natural instinct. How-ever, it is required that man keeps it under con-trol, which if he does so, he will save himselffrom many difficulties. If man does not con-trol his anger he is prone to commit innumer-able sins. Anger gives rise to arrogance; it givesroot to jealousy; an angry man bears maliceand is also hostile. When faced with anger, one should seek refuge in Allaah from satan.“I seek refuge in Allah from the rejected devil.”The Holy Prophet SAW says, “If you feel therage of anger in you then, if you are standing, sit down. If the feeling persists in that pos-ture, then lie down.” The Prophet SAW hasalso said,“When you become angry, remainsilent.” By remaining silent and calm , one willbe in complete control of one’s mind andsenses thus allowing one to control his or heranger. Holding on to anger is like grasping ahot coal with the intent of throwing it at some-one else; while in reality you are the one whoget burnt.” The following are some advicegiven by the Holy Prophet SAW pertaining toanger Inshaa Allaah: Abu Hurayrah, may Allaahbe pleased with him, reported that a man saidto the Prophet (peace and blessings of Allaahbe upon him), “Advise me.” He said, “Do notbecome angry.” The man repeated his requestseveral times, and each time the Prophet (peaceand blessings of Allaah be upon him) told him,“Do not become angry.” In another Hadith theHoly Prophet SAW said, Do not become an-gry and Paradise will be yours. The ProphetSAW also said, “Whoever controls his angerat the time when he has the means to act uponit, Allaah will fill his heart with contentment onthe Day of Resurrection.” The Messenger ofAllaah (peace and blessings of Allaah be uponhim) also said: “The strong man is not the onewho can overpower others (in wrestling);rather, the strong man is the one who controlshimself when he gets angry.”

The Prophet (PBUH) said there is anhour on Fridays when whatever weask for, Allah will accept and answer. We should come early to Jumua, toread Darood Shareef (asking God tosend his peace and blessings onto theHoly Prophet Muhammad(S.A.W),and to read Qur’aan. And do not aban-don Zhikr on Thursday night (whichis the start of our Sabbath day). Wehave been promised special blessingsfor reading certain chapters of theQuran on Thursday night. What aboutmarriage and children? The Sunnahis to marry for the pleasure of Allaah, and to have children. Today we marryfor our own pleasure and choose notto have children. Instead of follow-ing the Sunnah of the Prophet(S.A.W), we follow the example ofPharaoh and Satan. We let societytell us when to get married, who weshould marry, when to have children, and how many. We are afraid thattoo many children will cost too much, and keep us from wealth. That iswrong. Before a child is born, hissustenance is written. He comes intothis world with his hand filled withmercy from God. In 33:21 of theQuran, Allah tells us: “In the Mes-senger of God you have the mostbeautiful example for everyone wholooks forward to God and the LastDay, and remembers God unceas-ingly.” In 3:31 of the Quran, we read“Say (O Prophet): If you love God,then follow me, and God will love youand forgive you your sins; for God isMuch-Forgiving, Most Merciful.”This means follow the ProphetMuhammad (S.A.W). A Muslim is notjust an ordinary person. The Qur’aansays that a Muslim should display thebest characteristics. In 2:143, welearn that God made Muslims so thatour way of life could be an exampleto all mankind, just as the Prophet(S.A.W) is an example to us. But in-stead of being a good example for theworld, we follow the world, thepeople of today.

“They ask thee concerning wineand gambling say- in both is sinand advantage for me (too), butthe sin thereof is greater thanthe advantage,” have all pervad-ing influence on the whole doc-trine of contract. The lawful-ness of contract and those uni-lateral acts (e.g. Kafala, lqrar)which in Islamic Law resemblewith contract, is mostly esti-mated in terms of their resem-blance to sale and the unlawful-ness in the terms of usury andgambling. Similarly, the textsproclaiming that God will notpunish anyone save for one‘sown sins (Surah Fateh Verse 18)have been applied to debtswhich a person leaves unpaidat his death with far-reachingresults in the law of administra-tion of assets. The text makinglawful the permit of water hunt-ing (Surah Al-Maida verse 96)has been restricted, by reason-ing, to the fish only. (C) Bypointing out that the previousrevelations have been corruptedthe Qur‘an declared the legalmaterial with the ‘People of theBook‘(Ahl-a-Kitab) unreliable. It
also called upon the people toabandon the customs of theirancestors in favour of the lawsof God (Q.II:170;V:104). Inany case it repealed the entirelegal provisions available out-side the sphere of the Book andthe Sunnah. It adopted certainprevious customs as well. Forinstance, it made the sale law-ful. But the condemnation be-ing general and adaptation be-ing specific, the legal principlewill be, that the customarypractices shall be presumed tobe prohibited unless expresslyadopted by Islam. (Complica-tion Magazines Muniraya vol-ume III p.174) (D) TheQur‘aan converted the hea-then Arabs to the belief that lawis the direct command of God.Since it is the cardinal tenet ofIslam that God is One, thewhole law must emerge fromHim. The believers are boundto search for that whole, whichcan be found, in addition to theQur‘an from the social systembuilt up by the Holy Prophet(S.A.W) the Sunnah.

If today’s Jews and Christiansreally followed their ownBooks, they’d be living likeMuslims are supposed to live. There is nothing in how Moses(A.S) and Jesus (A.S) lived thatis contrary to what ProphetMuhammad (S.A.W) taught. Before the Prophet (S.A.W re-ceived his 1st revelation, he livedlike Moses and Jesus. And fi-nally, we are told in 10:57: “Omankind! The Qur’aan hascome to you as a cure for thediseases in your hearts, as aguide and a mercy.” As we sayin our interfaith programs, ourpath is not to follow the Jewsand Christians, but to have the
