The word Hikhmat is related to the Hebrew word Chakhma, and means wisdom. Not only SouthFlorida, but the entire world is blessed with the wisdom that streams forth from Al Hikhma andits editor, Shaikh Shafayat. It has been my privilege to know Shaikh Shafayat for many yearsand he is unsurpassed among religious leaders in erudition, love, and righteousness. He is notjust a tremendous asset to the Muslim community, he is a gift to mankind. Shaikh Shafayatpractices what many ministers only preach. In a world where religion is too often used to buildwalls of separation, Shaikh Shafayat uses religion to build bridges of understanding amongpeople of all backgrounds. My wife, children and mother join me in congratulating Al Hikhmatand Shaikh Shafayat on this important simcha (milestone).

It has been my privilege to work with Shaikh Shafayat and Al Hikmat to expand a sense ofunderstanding and cooperation among various religious groups in our neighborhood. InJewish tradition we have the Hebrew word “Hokhmah,” which is a cognate of the Arabic wordHikmat, meaning, “wisdom.” Wisdom, in the Jewish mystical tradition of Kabbalah, is thepinnacle of the relationship between God and humanity. With wisdom comes the greatest un-derstanding of God, and therefore God’s creations. With the help of God all peoples of theworld will recognize the leadership of Shaikh Shafayat and Al Hikmat. We will become part-ners in this holy endeavor to bring wisdom, hokhmah, hikmat, to the entire world so that wecan all have a greater understanding of the beauty God bestowed upon all of humanity. Thankyou Shaikh Shafayat, and thank you to all the people of Al Hikmat who have become rolemodels of bringing peace to all peoples.

It has been my great pleasure to be associated with Shaikh Shafayat, Darul Uloom and thewonderful ministry of Al-Hikmat Services Inc. since 1997 when I first started teaching WorldReligions at Broward College (Back then it was Broward Community College.) How manychanges have we all seen throughout these years. Yet, through it all, Shaikh Shafayat, DarulUloom and the ministry of Al-Hikmat Services, Inc. has continued to be a beacon of hope in aworld that each day gets smaller and smaller, closer and closer and cries out for ways in whichwe can come together and develop avenues of understanding, respect towards one another.May the “Wisdom” that led Our God to inspire Shaikh Shafayat continue to guide and thusgrace those who embrace the challenge to work together in respect and love.
