The best investment: charity

I am not at all astute concerning any-thing to do with financial investing, but Ido believe that we are living in very tur-bulent economic times. My kishkes tellme that in contemporary times there isno such thing as a safe, sure and secureguaranteed investment. There is eco-nomic volatility everywhere you look,interest rates on deposits are nonexist-ent, and the stock market is bleeding.Gold and other metals have dropped

dramatically, and real estate is about totank. There is one remaining investmentthat is guaranteed to grow and continuesto yield dividends well into the futurewithout loss of principle or lower valuedue to inflation. This investment isalluded to in this week’s special Torahportion of Shekalim.Shekalim is one of the four specialTorah portions that precede Passoverand discusses a special census consistingof a half-shekel contribution that wasused to count the Israelites. Rich andpoor were equally obligated to con-tribute the same amount of a half shekel.This equal participation went for thebuilding and maintenance of theTabernacle. The Torah in Exodus Chapter 10,Verse 12 informs us that each person
