Finally, an affordable way to finance energy-efficient home upgrades.Brand new to our area and approved by the
Missouri Clean Energy District is property
assessed financing. Administration of the financing is thru HERO (Home Energy Renovation Opportunity) which has financing plans from 5 to 20 years and the interest on HERO payments may be tax deductible.* This program was established to help homeowners
better afford to replace their old heating system, cooling system and water heaters
with higher efficiency systems. More homeowners qualify for HERO financing because approval is based on home equity and not credit score. Credit history is not
the deciding factor. We are a registered
contractor with HERO and our Comfort Advisors make the process easy. The HERO Program is brand new in Jackson County
and will be coming to other counties in the
metro. Jackson County residents call us
and we will see if you qualify – there is no obligation.

Reasons You Need a Humidifier
A whole-home humidifier, installed right into the heating and cooling system, can work wonders.
1. Humidified Air Means Healthier Living Conditions
In dry air, viruses thrive and sore throats,
coughs, and colds develop. Sore throats
cultivate as you breathe in dry air all day and night, leaving your throat irritated.
When the tissues in your nose and throat are dry, they cannot function properly and end up passing germs into your lungs.
Colds and coughs are the result.
2. A Humidifier Helps Furniture & Wood Floors Last Longer
Dry air causes splits and cracks in your
home furnishings, paint, cabinets, wood
floors, and molding. With moisture in the air, your wood surfaces will stay nicer
longer.
3. Dry Skin & Chapped Lips Are A Result of Dry Air
As the air in your home dries out, so do
your lips and skin. Dry air is also a cause
of bloody noses and itchy eyes. To avoid
these uncomfortable symptoms, keep
your indoor humidity level between 30% and 50%. A whole-home humidifier can maintain this level.
4. Save Money on Utility Bills
With the humidity distributed by the
humidifier, your home’s air actually feels warmer. This means you can lower your
thermostat 2-3 degrees and save money on your utility bills.
5. Static Electricity Decreases With Humidity
Static electricity occurs when there is an excess of electric charge trapped on the
surface of an object.

When plumbing problems occur, you may
be flooded with panic. We guarantee ‘Hot Water Today or You Don’t Pay’ TM. Because
it’s never a good time to be without hot water; it will save you time and frustration to be proactive. If your aging water heater starts to have problems, you are better off replacing it on YOUR time frame, not the heater’s. Water heaters on average last 10 years and when it starts to leak, it needs to
be replaced.
There are several modern options for water heating. A high-efficient water heater may be your alternative to adding a second traditional tank type. Or maybe a tankless
“on demand” heater is right for your family.
We have easy monthly payment plans and
MGE has up to $200 in rebates for Missouri homeowners.
No matter the age, every water heater needs to be maintained along with your
entire plumbing system. Our A.S.A.P. (Anthony Service Agreement Program)
includes a water heater tune-up and flush. This will drain the sediment and minerals
that settle in the bottom and rob the tank of its efficiency. Call us today and schedule your whole-home plumbing system maintenance, which includes a 10-point water heater tune-up.

It’s odorless, colorless, and dangerously lethal. Carbon monoxide (CO) is known as the silent killer because it’s so difficult to detect. More than 400 Americans die each year from unintentional carbon monoxide poisoning. Even though it’s extremely dangerous, there are still several ways you can safeguard your home and protect your family from an accidental poisoning. We measure the CO level in your home during your heating tune-up.
• Make sure you have a working CO detector on every floor of your home.
• Test your CO alarms once a month.• Make sure you know what sound your
CO alarm makes when it’s set off.• If your CO alarms do sound, make sure
everyone goes outside where they can
get fresh air.
• Never start your car to warm it up
inside of a closed space like a garage.
Always move your car outside first. (Anthony’s Auto-Ray garage heater prevents cold cars)
• During and after a big snowstorm, make sure the outside vents from your dryer, furnace, and stove are clear of obstruction.
• Open your damper in your fireplace for proper ventilation before lighting a fire.• Gas and charcoal grills can produce CO, so only use them outside.

Customer SpotlightA Guy Walks Into A Book Store . . .Roger Doeren took an unexpected turn toward his future when he stepped into
a book store over twenty years ago. At
Rainy Day Books, he met a woman with
a passion for literacy and the community.
Vivien Jennings opened the store in 1975
and it is the longest standing independent
book store in the KC metro area.
Over several years, Doeren and Jennings went from acquaintances to friends to spouses.
“In 2000, I left my award-winning lighting career to follow my heart. I joined Vivien
at the store as Chief Operating Officer,” Doeren said. “People ask, ‘Don’t you just
love the business?’ I say, I like the business, but I love Vivien. The store is her passion
and I like to think I am, too. I run the
company and Vivien is the face and the
spirit of Rainy Day Books. We’re friends
and lovers. We have a unique relationship in that we can be together and work
together that much and we’ve been doing
it for 21 years,” added Doeren.
Rainy Day Books is much more that a book
seller. They also offer over 300 Author events a year.
“Our success is a collaboration with our community,” said Doeren. “We offer these events and it’s the community that buys
the books and comes out to listen and
meet the authors. It’s this support that has
put us at the top of the “A” list for many
authors. They come here to launch their
books, they don’t start in New York or
California anymore, they start right here in
Kansas City.”
Roger Doeren likes reading people, and he reads authors the same way.
“When you buy a book, you’re paying for
intellectual property- the experience, a lesson, an escape,” says Doeren. “The eReader craze seems to have leveled out. Years of studies
have revealed that when you’re reading from
a screen, you’re thinking task-oriented. Books are more cherished now than ever. Book sales
are up 15% and eBooks are down about 15%. There is no glare on a printed page and you
can’t shake sand out of a Nook.”
Raised and still residing in Fairway, KS, Doeren refers to Kansas City as calm,
cultural, and a great place to call home base.
“My favorite day is the 7th day,” says
Doeren. “Sunday is our day with family
and friends. We re-energize and reset. Sunday is the day to reconnect, refocus, so
that the next day, Monday, I’m able to start
fresh and give the week my best. Family
comes first. Work is supported by family and family is supported by work.”
Rainy Day Books is at 2706 W 53rd Street, Fairway, KS. See their Author Event calendar at rainydaybooks.com

Preventative action is always a good idea with your home’s heating and cooling system. It is especially important not
to wait until a crisis occurs. A cold night in January, with the furnace faltering
or failed, is not the time to assess your heating system.
Here are 4 questions to answer as you consider whether it’s time to replace your gas furnace before it costs you more
money or becomes unsafe.
1. Is your furnace old?The average life expectancy we see today
is between 14 and 18 years. If your furnace is close to this age or older, you
should consider replacing the furnace as a
planned home improvement rather than in
panic mode.
2. Gas & electric bills increasing?Furnaces lose their efficiency as they age. As a result, your furnace may run longer
to provide the same amount of heat. The
money you pay the gas & electric company every month could pay for new furnace.
New furnaces use approximately 1/6 the electricity of an older furnace.
3. Repairs in the last 2 years? As a furnace ages, you can replace one
part only to have another go out next year.
Furnaces incur the most breakdowns in the
last 2 years of their lives. Also, as a furnace ages, it gets harder to obtain replacement
parts.
4. Do you have comfort issues? Are you frequently adjusting your
SAFETY FIRSTAn aging furnace runs the risk
of developing cracks in the heat
exchanger. If present, carbon
monoxide could leak into your
home undetected. Signs of this
may be frequent headaches, a burning feeling in nose or eyes,
nausea, disorientation, flu-like symptoms. Should you experience
any of these, air out your house,
open a window to the furnace room
and immediately call us. Cracks
in the heat exchanger can occur
undetected which is why our ASAP
plan is so important.
A permit is more than a piece of paper.
It has everything to do with safety and a
job done right. The HVAC industry reports
that 90% of heating and cooling systems are installed improperly. Many offenders are minor but some are downright deadly.
These installations involve electricity, natural gas, and vent gases (potential CO dangers). Some contractors skip the permit
to save costs. Only a licensed, insured, and bonded contractor can obtain a permit;
something to think about if a contractor
tells you the permit is not important. And
permits are required by code. A permit assures a second look by a city inspector
who is trained to look for and recognize any faulty, shoddy, and dangerous installation shortcuts. If you want your heating and cooling system installed properly, safely,
and to code, make sure you have it
inspected by a code official.

Add more comfortable living space to
your home instantly! It’s easy with the
installation of our Auto-Ray infrared garage heater. Our garage heater uses NO electricity. It operates only on natural gas
and can heat a 2-3 car garage for pennies a day. Just think, no more frozen blocks
of snow still on your wheel wells in the morning. The garage floor is dry each morning. No more warming up the car
for 10 minutes before you leave. It helps those rooms above the garage stay warm,
too. We invite you to visit our showroom

2 Cups powdered sugar, sifted½ Cup sour cream

Infrared heaters work just like the sun.
Infrared rays heat the object directly, not
the air around it. When the object becomes
hot, it heats the surrounding air and any
other objects. With infrared heat, people,
machinery, objects and floors all become heat reservoirs — leading to greater fuel
and cost efficiency.
