W hen you walk into TheLearning ExperienceAcademy of EarlyEducation at 1784 HamburgTurnpike in Wayne, you instantlyget a sense being amongst family. The entire facility is immaculately
kept and a friendly face is there togreet you as you walk in the door.It instantly becomes obvious thatthe people that built this centerput a lot of thought into creatinga facility that caters to a youngchilds every need.
The Learning Experience isable to accomplish this by givingchildren the support they need todevelop socially, physically andemotionally in a safe and secure
environment. Programs like theircutting edge, proprietary L.E.A.P.(Learning Experience AcademicProgram) curriculum and Funwith Phonics have nearly 90% of participating children reading by
the time they enter kindergarten.Other programs that are part of the everyday curriculum includesign language, technology (com-puters are provided in allclassrooms for 2.5 yearsof age and above),
L.E.A.P. into Spanish, philan-thropy, physical fitness andManners Matter have children
exercising not only their minds, but their bodies as well. This well-
rounded approach toearly edu-
cationof
boththe body
and mind hasmade The Learning Experiencethe leading innovators in thechild care industry.
In keeping with their inno-vative ways, The Learning
Experience recently introducedtheir L.E.A.P. Interactive curricu-lum. This next generation of cur-riculum has been specificallydesigned to enhance TLEs exist-ing L.E.A.P. curriculum by havingchildren engage in cutting-edge,
touch technology on a large, inter-active screen. L.E.A.P lessons aresupplemented with real-timevideos and eye-opening destina-tions that are shown on the inter-active board via Google Earth.Children can reach out and touchthese destinations and travel theworld without ever leaving theclassroom. This interactive tech-nology also allows children to uti-lize this high-tech means of educa-
tion to fill it, shape it, drawit, and spotlight it. The touch-screen gives them the ability tolearn hands-on rather than justseeing it in a book or hearing

C irca 1996. I was in St.Louis for a newspaperconvention. It was oneof those tiring trips with a fullnight of activities to ramp upfor. I checked into the hoteland headed for my room. Icould not wait to lay down on
the bed and grab a quick snoozebefore I needed to get cleanedup for the evening.
I put the key in the door, opened it and much like thethree little bears, I found some-one sleeping in my bed! Theguy woke up startled (I guess he
thought I was gonna roll him!).I hightailed it out of there asquickly as I could.
Turns out they gave methe wrong roombut as far as I
was concerned I was in theright place because I had thekey. In actuality, I was in thewrong place at the wrong time!

Maybe this scenario is alltoo familiar to you. And tomake things worse, it keepshappening to you because youcontinue to go to the wrongplace at the wrong time.Remember the definition of insanity is doing the same thingover and over again andexpecting different results.Think about it
A man goes down thestreet and falls in a hole, getsout dusts himself off. The nextday the man goes down thatsame street and, aware of thehole, tries go around it, butonce again falls in it. The nextday the man walks down a dif-ferent street.
What wrong place doyou keep going to that contin-ues to produce poor results? What would happen if youstopped going there andchanged course?
Maybe a different streetwould work well today. Whatdo you think?

A ge 5 is a big year in achilds life. In manyschool districts, chil-dren enroll in kindergartenshortly after their fifth birth-days. But age alone does notdictate if a child is ready to
transition from a preschoolenvironment to kindergarten, and parents may need to workwith educators to determine if their children are ready totake the first big step of theiracademic careers.
Many developmentaland education experts believethat numerous factors, inaddition to age, determineschool readiness, includingphysical, social and cognitivedevelopment. Many parents
want their kids to beginkindergarten at the same timeas other kids their age, butenrolling youngsters beforetheyre ready could haverepercussions for years tocome. Students who beginkindergarten before theyreready may fall behind, result-ing in frustration that turnsthem off from school.
With such significantstakes, parents may want toanswer a few questions andlook for these generalizedkindergarten readiness cluesbefore enrolling their young-sters in school.
Does my child have solidoral-language skills? Languageis more than drilling lettersand sight words into a childshead through repetition.Language allows kids to sharein new experiences and les-sons that will expand theirvocabularies. The more kidsexperience, the more theircuriosity grows. This opens upopportunities for discussionabout a variety of topics andintroduces words and con-cepts that may be new and
exciting to children. Researchindicates one of the best pre-dictors of eventual readingsuccess is a well-developedoral vocabulary in kinder-garten. Children will retainwords if they hear themenough and if theyre used incontext and conversation.
Can my child listen toand follow instructions?Kindergarten students will beintroduced to many foreignthings, and some kinds may bein a school environment forthe very first time. Teacherswill be issuing instructionsand seeking cooperation fromthe class. To keep up withpeers and lessons, kinder-garteners will need to be ableto remain quiet for extendedperiods of time, listen toinstructions and then properlyact on them.
Is my son or daughterexcited about learning? Somechildren cannot wait to go tokindergarten, especially thosewho are excited at theprospect of going to the sameschool as their older siblings.Enthusiasm about school andan eagerness to learn and dis-cover new things are indica-tive of kindergarten readi-ness. A child does not needto have mastery over everyskill just yet, but taking theinitiative to try and ask ques-tions is a good start to suc-cessful learning.
Does my child want tobe independent? The phrasesIll do it myself or Ill trycan be music to a kinder-garten teachers ears. Parentsmay be in a rush and find iteasier to dress kids or getthem snacks. But doingeverything for kids putsthem at a disadvantage.Independent streaks can helpkids adjust to school.Kindergarteners may have togo to the bathroom and washup independently. They alsomay have to fasten buttons, open up lunches and hang upcoats. Children who cannothandle such tasks may strug-gle to adjust to a school envi-ronment.
Can my child recognizebasic letters and numbers?Children entering kinder-garten should know most let-ters by sight and be able tocount to 10. Preparing forkindergarten can be fun anddoes not require flash cards orhomework. Encourage kids tocount objects in the worldaround them or do some pre-liminary reading by recogniz-ing letters on signs at stores orplaces in the neighborhood.Kindergarten readiness isdetermined by a variety of factors, including age, schoolassessment, enthusiasm aboutlearning, and signs of inde-pendence.

Moving can be stress-ful. If the process of finding a new placeto live wasnt difficultenough, then the task of get-ting everything packed andout of your current residenceon time is sure to complicatematters.
For pet owners, the mov-ing process can be even moredifficult. Renters often findthe rental market is less thanenthusiastic about pets, andeven landlords who allow petsmight require a larger securitydeposit. But once that deposithas been made, it is time tomove, a process that can bedifficult for renters and buyersalike. Pets are often averse tochange, and few changes areas significant as changing res-idences. But there are waysthat pet owners can make
moving easier on themselvesand their pets.
Spread things out.Sudden changes can increasepets anxiety levels, whichcan alter their behavior. When getting ready to move, spread things like packing outover time, gradually packingitems away so pets wontpanic as their environmentchanges. Avoid packing petscomfort items, such as bed-ding and toys, until the lastminute.
Arrange for travel wellin advance of your move. If youre moving relatively closeby, then your trip to your newhome may be no different fora pet than a standard roadtrip. In such instances, packtoys and snacks in the car tokeep your pet occupiedthroughout the trip.
If flying will be a part of your move, then arrange fortravel as soon as possible.Doing so increases thechances you can get a non-stop flight, which will be eas-ier on you and especially yourpet, which wont be as used tothe changes in air pressure onan airplane as his or her own-ers are. Flying can be uncom-fortable for pets no matterhow considerate an airline is,so limit your move to a singlenonstop flight when possible.
Stick to your routine.Pets thrive with routine, sowhile the days leading up to amove can be hectic, stick toyour pets routine as much aspossible. This includes feed-ing times, morning andevening walks and even thetime you set aside for playeach day. If problems arise
with your mood, dont allowyour pet to see you lose yourtemper or succumb to stress,as this can cause a spike inpets anxiety levels that canmake the move more difficult.
Give pets their own spoton moving day. Moving daycan be hectic, especiallywhen pet owners hire profes-sional movers. It can be diffi-cult for pets to adjust tostrangers in a home, andmovers will be in and out of your home all day on movingday. Designate a room in yourhouse for your pet, and makesure the movers know not toenter that room. Place feed-ing dishes, water bowls andtoys in the room so pets caneat drink and remain occu-pied until the time comes toleave the house. On a niceday, consider letting the dogs
play in a fenced-in yard or use atree lead thatallows pets to play in the yardwithout the freedom to runaway.
Visit the veterinarianbefore making your trip. Petowners should take their petto the veterinarian one lasttime before moving. Ask forthe animals health records, including documentation of its vaccination history as wellas any past illnesses or condi-tions the pet might haveexperienced. The vet visit isalso a good time to get theanimal one last checkup sothe vet can ensure that the petis healthy enough to travel.
When visiting the vet, discuss any past travel issuesyour pet might have had. Insome cases, the vet might pre-
scribe an anti-anxiety med-ication if the pet has a historyof anxiety when traveling.
When getting ready tomove, pet owners should takeall the necessary precautionsto ensure their pet has a safeand comfortable move.

Q.

i|x A recently published report claimsthat 75% of all Lyme Disease patientsin New Jersey contract the diseasefrom ticks on their own property.
Although most people think that they get LymeDisease from ticks carried by deer, the reality isthat ticks carried by mice, chipmunks, squirrels, rabbits and other small animals are just as likely tocarry Lyme Disease. So, even if you never seedeer on your property you will have ticks, andunfortunately those ticks can carry Lyme Disease. Lyme Disease is not the only disease carriedby ticks in our area. Ticks carry five potentiallyfatal diseases in addtition to Lyme Disease. For thesafety of your family, you want to keep ticks off of your property.
Fortunately there is a safe way to protectyour family and pets from the dangers of tickson your property. Go Organic Lawn Care inOakland, NJ offers a 100% safe, effective, organicway to kill ticks, fleas and other harmful insectson your property. Go Organic uses a cedarbased product that is perfectly safe for peopleand pets but is deadly for fleas, ticks and otherpests. Your kids can play in the yard 20 - 30minutes after the application (we only recom-mend you let the liquid based product dry). Notonly does the treatment kill fleas and ticks oncontact it also repels them for 4-6 weeks so fleasand ticks wont come on to your property.Other insects that are repelled by the treatmentinclude termites, mosquitos and moths.
A.GO ORGANICBIOBeing a local, family owned andoperated business for over 32 yearsgives us a unique perspective. We know the challenges and
benefits that our area provides. Our highly experiencedtechnicians are extremely familiar with all of the potential hazardsthat face your lawn, trees, andshrubs. Our dedication to your property ensures that you get thebest results possible the first time

Homeowners about toembark on homeimprovement proj-
ects should prioritize dustremoval to avoid the poten-tially negative side effects of exposure to lead dust. Whenundergoing a renovation, homes built before 1978, theyear the use of lead paint wasbanned, are likely to producelead dust, which occurs whenlead paint is sanded orchipped. That dust can beespecially harmful to chil-dren, pregnant women andpets. According to theCenters for Disease Controland Preven-tion, lead dustthat is as small as a grain of sand is enough to poisonchildren, who may sufferbrain damage, hearing loss, nervous system and kidneydamage, and decreased mus-cle and bone growth afterexposure to lead dust. Whenpregnant women are exposedto lead dust, that exposure
may affect the baby's cogni-tive development whileincreasing the mother'sblood pressure. Householdpets exposed to lead dust maysuffer from a series of sideeffects, including vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain and
possibly death. When makingrenovations to their homes, homeowners can open win-dows and wear protectivegear such as masks and safetygoggles to avoid direct expo-sure to lead dust.

It is the season for entertain-ing, when invitations forbarbecues and parties
abound. Common courtesydictates guests offer a token of appreciation to their host orhostess for the invitation tosocialize. Although wine orother beverages are a go-to gift,a tasty dessert also makes agreat gift. And gifters can evenconsider a no-bake recipe sothey dont have to turn on theoven when the weather iswarms.
Need inspiration? Browsethe Internet and youre likelyto discover dozens of deliciousno-bake recipes. Cookingshows on television and arti-cles in newspapers and maga-zines also can inspire homechefs. Otherwise, you can tryyour hand at these simpledessert solutions.
Ambrosia salad: Am-brosia is a variation on a tradi-tional fruit salad. While thename references a foodenjoyed by Greek deities, mostbelieve the dessert traces itsorigins to the United States.
Although ambrosia salad canhave different variations, manyrecipes begin with a dairy base(pudding, sour cream oryogurt) and then include dif-ferent canned or fresh fruits, shredded coconut and mini-marshmallows. Ambrosia saladis refreshing on a warm day andtakes little time to prepare.
Pudding trifle: Trifles aremade by layering differentingredients to create a striateddesign. This dessert mayinclude a variety of ingredi-ents, from cake to cookiecrumbs to fruit. Trifles also canbe customized to fit a particularparty theme. Patriotic partiesmay feature a trifle made withberries, whipped cream andcubes of vanilla pound cake.Match flavors to cocktails orother food being served.
Easy ice cream cake:Packaged ice cream sandwich-es can be turned into a tastyand simple dessert. First, pur-chase a box of ice cream sand-wiches, then melt hot fudgeand crumble cookies, likeOreos(R), into the fudge.
Spread the cookie and fudgelayer on top of the sandwichesand then repeat the layers.Finish by sealing everythingwith a thin coating of frozenwhipped topping. Wrap in alu-minum foil and allow to setand harden in the freezer for afew hours.
Fruit pizza: This is arefreshing and relativelyhealthy dessert to complementany occasion. Start by makinga graham cracker crust, eitherby mixing graham crackercrumbs with melted butter anda bit of sugar and pressing intoa pie dish or by simply buyingone ready-made. (For a lesshealthy alternative, and onethat requires baking, use asugar cookie dough to make acookie crust.) Mix whippedcream cheese with a bit of strawberry jam, marmalade oryour favorite fruit flavor.Spread over the crust. Placeslices of fruit on top of thecream cheese. Peaches, apples, grapes, sliced cherries, kiwi, and blueberries can be used. For a professional-looking fin-
ish, a glaze made from corn-starch, water and sugar willgive the top of the fruit pizza aninviting sheen.
Fresh strawberry yogurtpie: The benefits of eatingyogurt abound. Yogurt is lowerin fat and calories than icecream, and yogurt boastsactive, live cultures that keepyour digestive system workingcorrectly. Yogurt doesnt justhave to be reserved for break-fast or a snack. Enjoy it in adelicious dessert, too. Purchasea ready-made chocolate cookiepie crust or make your ownfrom ground chocolate sand-wich cookies. Mix togethereight to 10 ounces of strawber-ry Greek yogurt with a smallcontainer of thawed frozenwhipped topping. Add in slicesof fresh strawberries andchocolate shavings, if desired.Pour the mixture into the piecrust and freeze until firmly set.Thaw slightly to slice easilyand enjoy.
No-bake treats make foreasily prepared desserts.Experiment with different fla-
vor combinations, and you justmay discover a new crowdfavorite.
