Ask Father Ryan
Dear Friends, Some of the children in REP have submitted questions, (quite a few questions actually!) So I will begin to answer these questions as best as I can in this little weekly kid’s section called “Ask Father Ryan” Without further ado, let us begin! Here are a few similar questions…
• Why do we have to kneel down in church sometimes? (Luis, age 8)
• When do we kneel in church? And why? (Victor, age 11)
• Why do we stand a lot in church? (Alex, age 9)
• Why do we stand in Mass? (Josie, age 7) Your parents told me you sit too much in school, and so we try to exercise some while we pray at church, so we can be healthy Christians! Okay, I’m kidding. That is not the real reason. Actually, we move around at Mass because as humans, we are a combination of soul and body. We pray not just with our soul, but also with our whole body! For example, we kneel during the prayers of the Eucharist because it helps our body tell our soul, something very important is happening. It helps our soul to recognize: “Someone very important is coming to be with us. It is God. The same God who made the sun, the stars, the earth, the animals, and even you and I. And now, he has come to the same room as us, because he loves us, and he wants to be close to us.” One Little Thing… Before bed tonight, try to remember to kneel by your bed, and thank God for something you are thankful for, and remember that God made you, and he loves you very much. (Grown ups, you can do this too. Remember, we are all children of God.) Keep up the good questions kids. God bless you and your families!
GOSPEL MEDITATION - ENCOURAGE DEEPER UNDERSTANDING OF SCRIPTURE
December 12, 2021, 3rd Sunday of Advent
“From silly devotions and sour-faced saints, good Lord, deliver us!" St. Teresa of Avila
We’ve all heard the adage, “Laughter is the best medicine.” In many ways, it really is. When was the last time you really laughed? The gift of imagination allows us to see possible things that are yet to be. Imagine a world filled with laughter. We take life too seriously sometimes. Fear, uncertainty, pressure, negativity, disappointment, and myriad other human experiences can rob us of the joy needed for laughter. God never promised us an easy road, and we do have to take the course of our lives seriously. However, there is a balance to be sought and a possible joy that can be brought even to the darkest and most challenging of encounters. St. Therese of Lisieux reminds us that, “Joy is not found in the material objects surrounding us but in the inner recesses of the soul. One can possess joy in a prison cell as well as in a palace.” Falling in love with God, who is present in all of creation, allows us to bring a depth of understanding to everything we do and experience. We can more easily see above and beyond things while pursuing the only One who can truly satisfy our hearts. When we realize that God, the king of Israel, is in our midst and with us, there is no further misfortune to fear. We can celebrate the wonder and beauty of God’s gift of joy. It is no wonder that many saints radiate joy and have no reservations expressing laughter. They are happy because they have found a pearl of great price. We celebrate with joy today with hearts filled with expectation, wonder, awe, and beauty as we ready ourselves, even more excitedly, for the coming of our Savior. Do not fear and do not be discouraged. If you haven’t laughed in a while, why? Something is preventing you from expressing the magnificence of your soul and the presence of God who dwells within. God’s power and presence within us assures us that we are loved and kept in that presence. What more is really needed? Rejoice and laugh in the presence of God! It really is the best medicine and a most perfect way to convince others that God is really with us. “Go ahead, laugh! Live your life with joy and serve the Lord with laughter! Joy, with peace, is the sister of charity. Serve the Lord with laughter.” (St. Padre Pio of Pietrelcina) ©LPi

We will have the opportunity to give to the National Retirement Fund for Religious, which helps our retired sisters, brothers and religious order priests. We also have an opportunity to give to the retirement needs of the senior priests in the Diocese of Green Bay. You may donate to both of these groups, or just to one. Please use the envelope provided in this envelope or pick one up in the information table in the gathering space.

Bambinelli Sunday
A Blessing of Infant Jesus
Join us at Mass on December 18 and 19
The tradition of the blessing of the Bambinelli was first instituted by St. John Paul II early in his papacy. He invited the children of Rome to assemble in St. Peter’s Square on the Third Sunday of Advent and bring the baby Jesus (Bambinelli in Italian) statue from their Nativity sets at home. John Paul II blessed the figurines of those present and told them to assemble before the manger scene with their family in a spirit of prayer.
It is a beautiful Advent tradition, one that sanctifies the home with the Baby Jesus and makes his arrival in the manger scene an even more joyous event.
St. Thérèse Parish will celebrate this lovely tradition on the Fourth Sunday of Advent. You are invited to bring your Baby Jesus (Bambinelli) to Mass on December 18 and 19 to have them blessed by Father Ryan.
Bendición del Niño Jesús
Diciembre 18 y 19
