How can you help us help your child? Homework – a quiet space/time; share how you learn best – what works for
you may work for them; encourage your child to work as independently where possible: we need to know if they aren’t secure.
Encourage reading – offer a slightly later bedtime if they use the extra time to read to themselves (it’s amazing how many reluctant readers become confident readers this way – a good tip is to read the first few chapters of book to your child until they become hooked and then leave them to continue the book by themselves)
Bedtime story – expands vocabularies; broadens understanding of the world and behaviour of others; improves comprehension when you don’t have to decode the words for yourself. Suggestions can be found in the About Us/Curriculum section of the website
Ensure your child has enough sleep – a lot of squabbles are caused by irritability due to being low on sleep.
Maths talk - using and applying skills in real life where possible e.g. weighing ingredients; measuring up for new furniture; calculating which offer in the supermarket is the best value for money etc
Tell us about anything that may have an effect on their behaviour in school.
CommunicationAvailable for quick messages before schoolBy appointment for longer meetings after
schoolTelephone – the office pass us any messages
and we will endeavour to ring back as soon as we are free
Write a note – we have a communication book that we note down any future medical appointments etc
Encouraging independencePacking and unpacking bagExplaining why homework is lateIndependent practice of spellings/times
tables etc in classIndependently leaving the classroom at the
end of the day (only to go down to the playground if they can see who is picking them up)
