Two girls live among a sort of scabrous legends, told
each other in whispers about the past of the school, and
some other real risks threaten them close by.

Future is here. Science fiction scenes mixed with eternal youth illusion.
Cloning, stem cells reproduction, genetic and cryopreservation. Science
at the service of beauty industry, today within the reach of almost
everyone –who can afford it—in the world.
Stem cells term is usually related only to umbilical cord preservation, in
some point will provide genetic material to the family, in case of a serious
illness.
Stem cells from umbilical cord blood are used to treat more than 70
illnesses such as: anemia, immunodeficiency, leukemia and lymphoma,
among others. Actually, regenerative medical research and cell therapies
are developed to treat multiple sclerosis, diabetes, lupus, Parkinson and
Alzheimer.
However, beauty industry has taken a step forward, taking advantage of
scientific developments towards ancient human wish, everlasting beauty.
WhAT ARE ThE sTEM CELLs?
Talk about stem cells is approaching to genetics. A brief
approach to them will take us to know that they are in our
body and they can reproduce themselves.
There are several types, totipotent (can grow and
produce a complete organism), pluripotent
(they cannot form a complete organism, but
“embryonic lineage” as well), multipotent
(they can only produce cells from their same
“embryonic lineage”) and unipotent (the have
the capacity to be differentiated in the same
cell type).
The most studied are pluripotent,
because of the scientists interest
in how these type of cells
can produce any kind of
differentiated cells. As
well, its use is giving
successful results in
biomedical therapies.

A detailed classification shows that there are stem cells into embryo
and adult tissues. As a result of its capacity of differentiation and
reproduction, they produce their similar in tissue or organ where
they belong to, such as skin. Humans have 20 different types of
adult stem cells, known until present time. And they are being used
to regenerate blood, skin or damaged tissues.
ThE CELLs of BEAuTy
“Stem cells of beauty” are known as fibroblast cells. They are stem
cells from adult tissues and, particularly, they are the responsible of
the production of collagen and elastin.
Time wears away fibroblast cells, they become weaker and reduce
both substances generation, responsible of youth appearance on
skin and hair.
Skin is one of the main victims of fibroblast cells weakness. Face loses
elasticity, firmness and density. Of course, appear feared wrinkles,
expression lines, it means, natural sings of the passing of time.
Fibroblast cells use is one of the techniques revolutionizing the way
women and men in all over the world face the pass of time. Mainly,
because it replaces a painful surgical procedure, long term recovery
and highly risky.
hoW Is ThE PRoCEDuRE?
Fibroblast cells are taken from the skin of the same person. A part of
skin is taken from behind both ears, to be sent to the laboratory. As well,
a blood sample is taken that will help to complete cell reproduction.
After that, patient must be patient. He or she will have to wait between
six or eight weeks for science to do its job, cells proliferation and the
expected result: around 10 million of their own fibroblast cells.
As a terminated process, fibroblast cells are injected directly in
specific areas, such as neck, face or hands. Preferably in places to be
corrected, like acne marks, expression lines and wrinkles.

Mapping the area, they apply an anesthetic cream and then
fibroblast cells are injected. The procedure can take around 40
minutes to an hour.
TEh REsuLTs
Essentially you get support, tone and filling through reactivation of
millions of fibroblast cells. Collagen and elastin production increase
and renew itself.
Unlike botox, for example, fibroblast cells procedure offers a natural
face expression. Who have tried first one, know about immobility
discomfort and face tightness.
Another difference with older and conventional methods is lasting,
while others have to be renewed months later, fibroblast cells last an
average or four years.
It is worth emphasizing that using the skin of the same person, that
is to say, its own cells, it’s a natural technique and with null or few
rejection possibilities or allergic reactions.
WhERE To sTART?
Not everybody is a candidate to use fibroblast cell procedure in their
bodies. Before, you must take into account certain considerations.
For example, it´s a technique suitable for 65 years at most
women and men, and disease free condition such as skin cancer,
lupus, hepatitis B and C and / or skin illness such as psoriasis and
erythema.
Pregnant women are not candidates, neither who has blood
coagulation alterations. Smoking is also a contraindication, as well
excessive stress.
Previous conditions dismissed, you should check if your beauty clinic
is associated to a prestigious laboratory with law certifications.
2012: overcame the number of 80 thousand stem cells stored at
national level.
2013: is expected to increase in 10 per cent the amount of the last
year in stored stem cells.
is expected that 6 of each 10 people will be survivors of any type of cancer.

nuestra salud.
Tinto, rosado o blanco; seco, dulce o espumoso.
There is always a good reason to enjoy a glass of wine. And in addition to
its aroma, body and taste, you consider how much it benefits your body,
we find a drink that, furthermore delight our palate, also takes care of
our health.
Red, rosé or white wine; dry, sweet or sparkling. There are many
discoveries around it in the field of health. It is said that having a glass of
wine everyday helps cardiovascular system, especially to oxygen blood
and its movement to brain. Also are mentioned its positive effects to help
digestion of high protein food, such as meat and dairy products.
But, maybe, some of the most impressive discoveries have been its
benefits to skin care and anti-aging combat. We must remember we live
in the age of “back to nature”, we bet on organic products, chemical-
free, and processes of obtention more alike traditional ways than series
production.
Well then, science has proved that this kind of red grape, tempranillo,
has high polyphenols content. These components are very important for
plant physiology, they protect their structures against microorganisms
and insects, and also environmental factors, such as rain, high UV
radiation and extreme climates. We can observe this in the grape skin
that protects each grape: it always maintains a lively colour, it has
a smooth appearance, and it will take a long time until the oxidation
process affects its texture.

Like the skin grape, human skin can be benefited with then polyphenol
effects of tempranillo grape. The application of these 100% natural
components, have proved a high antioxidant capacity, to neutralize
free radicals, to improve skin elasticity and to delay the wrinkles and
pigment spots. Some studies reveal that creams based on tempranillo
polyphenols have better results on skin care than vitamins C and E.
A younger and healthier skin is within your reach. Travel &

scientific backing and with genuinely tempranillo polyphenols,
because there are some companies that use another kind of
grapes, and its pH causes allergic reactions and irritation.
There are also charlatans who offer facial massages and red
wine masks; you must be aware of the adverse effects, like oily
skin and with impurities.

However, surely this drink was discovered when someone forgot grapes
in a bowl and then he tasted the resulting liquid. Wine is the fermented
juice of the grape and its secrets are forged in the soil and climate in
which the vine grows, in the barrels where it ages and in glass containers
This drink appears in the Old Testament when it is
mentioned by Noah, and in classic Greece, mythology
claimed that the wine had been brought from Asia
Minor by the god Dionysus, whom the Romans called
Bacchus and in his honor they performed parties
called orgies. The ancient cultures shared the idea that
the wine´s origin was divine, because they could not
understand how in its production almost no human

It is also important to mention that among all
kinds of wine, red wine is the one that provides the
greatest benefits. Here are some of the benefits of
drinking one or two glasses of wine a day.
1. It reduces the risk of hardening of the arteries
and heart disease, plus it helps to remove
varicose veins. This is because it improves
blood circulation.
2. It is excellent to fight allergies and it has
antibacterial properties.
3. It has vitamins that reduce aging process of the
body, improving the texture and appearance of
the skin.
4. It helps to reduce inflammation, prevents
clots formation and promotes a better brain
oxygenation.
5. It provides minerals like magnesium, lithium,
calcium, iron and potassium, which improve
the body’s inner functioning.
6. It contributes to get a more efficient digestion of
protein, which makes it a very good couple with
meats and cheeses.
7. It reduces the risk of urinary tract infections or
kidney stones.
8. It improves sleep quality, increases longevity
and reduces the risk of suffering Alzheimer.
9. It raises human spirit and relaxes tensions,
also promotes an extroverted and cheerful
personality.
10. Its symbolism of thousands of years old, makes
closer bonds between friends and relatives.
This is why wine has always been a main element
of a healthy and fulfilling life. Well said by the poet
Omar Khayyam: “All the kingdoms of the earth for a
glass of wine! The whole men´s science by the sweet
fragrance of the fermented mash! All love songs
for the pleasant murmur of the wine that fills our
glasses!”. Cheers!

Basilea
Basel
Cultura Ilimitada
Boundless culture

it´s possible to see the process of making a hat, a product so
much needed in the city because of the cold weather.

Basel has ancient and modern architectural jewels. City Hall,

modern buildings, designed by world famous architects like
Frank Gerhy, Mario Botta or Herzog & DeMeuron. They
opened recently their last creation, Messe fairground, last
april in Baselworld, the annual jewelry and watch fest most
important of the world. Other events that attract thousands of
people are, in june, ArtBasel, the contemporary art fair in the
world; and in february, Fasnacht the most lively carnival of the
country. During these events is difficult, but not impossible, to
get a hotel room in town. But there is an advantage, there are
several Swiss, French and German villages close to town, where

What to do?
Basel must be discovered by walking. Still today, many
settlements of Celts and romans can been seen on the hill,
where the city bishop lived until the Reform in 1529. Today, it
is a city neighborhood, with offices and museums.
In Basel, there are over 40 museums, from historic to contemporary
art. Kunstmuseum Basel has one of the most ancient public
collections of the world. It includes Hans Holbein Works, a young
artist who lived in Basel between 1514 and 1531.

Some men consider it as collection

it is the touch of elegance in a

it as an outdated article or a kind

classic men will always say it is

There are many points of views.
Certainly, tie is an accessory
that has transcended throughout centuries and nobody can remain

Your tie says a lot about who you are. Your personality not only

A kNoT, WhERE ThE MAGIC hAPPENs
We present this compilation of the four knots you must know, according
to Travel & Spa/Lifestyle.
simple knot
Known as well as american knot, it´s perfect for formal events, that
not require dark suit. We suggest you to wear it with colorful and
styling ties, to get a perfect contrast to your blazer or shirt. It´s elegant
but discreet, ¡a classic!
1. Run the wide end over narrow end, to certain height under
your neck.
2. Lay the wide end under the narrow end.
3. Turn the wide end over the narrow end.
4. Holding a finger in the loop, bring the wide end up, then down
through the loop.
5. Hold the narrow end and pull up the wide end to finish the knot.
Adjust it to the last button of the collar.
Nudo doble
Double knot
It is a contemporary classic, similar to simple knot, but
with more intersection volume. It´s perfect for plain
suits. If you wear a slim tie, but you don´t want to be
unnoticed, this is your better choice.
1. Under your neck, run for the first time, wide end
around the narrow end, as its indicated in steps 1, 2
and 3 of the previous knot.
2. Take the wide end behind the narrow end a second
time.
3. Bring the wide end up and under the layover and then
into the loop formed by the first or second layer.
4. Finally, adjust the knot and slide it up to the center
of your collar.

Nudo Windsor
Relaxed knot
It´s no more than a simple knot, lightly loose in the intersection. It´s
perfect for casual gatherings, when you feel like wearing a formal
but youthful look. It is a knot with less volume, matches with slim
shirts and jackets. Wear it with plain ties with a satin finish touch
and don´t forget to maintain its structure, shirt must be one open
button, that way knot is one or two centimeters under the highest
button.
Windsor knot
It´s a very popular knot in England because of its elegance and luxury,
besides it takes high skills to make it. As a knot has with considerable
volume, we recommend it to wear it with Italian collars (wide-spaced).
It goes very well with classic suits (three buttons) and monochromatic
ties, but textured. It gives a tridimensional effect.
1. Lay the wide end over the narrow end. Maintain the crossing
and make a buckle, putting up the wide end under the tie and
folding it.
2. Bring the wide end to the other side under the crossing and make
another buckle, going up the wide end over the tie and folding it.
You will get balance and symmetry.
3. Lay the wide end up, behind the tie, put your forefinger over
the knot.
4. Put away your forefinger and slide carefully the wide end
inside the knot. It is important that the structure does not
fall apart.
5. Pull up gently on the wide end to adjust the tie and pull it up to the
last button.

The experience begins since the very moment the visitor arrives to
this beautiful place, an incomparable sight of vegetation is always
with you and huge mountains create a sensation of shelter and
secure, sometimes needed to let go your fears. In the main hotel
entrance there is a mystic jewel, an acknowledgement from S.S.
Dalai Lama, where in 2006 he declares Hostal de la Luz as a place
for world peace. Every area in this holistic oasis is designed and
measured to have everything in an absolute harmony and luxury,
according to Feng Shui experts and Indian specialists in sacred
spaces.
Despite of classical architecture, the place has a minimal touch that
creates an atmosphere of exclusiveness. Adobe is a typical material
of the region and its use was recovered for the hotel design, due to its
great virtues as being thermal. On the other hand it is a very good
energy carrier that in conjunction with ferrite foundations, achieves
an energetic balance for a unique place.

was built as a S.S. Dalai Lama petition and it is on
a pyramid symbolizing Mexican culture. You don’t
need to go to France to experience a therapy of this
level, since Hostal de la Luz offers it as well. This
ritual begins since the beginning in the light garden
which symbolizes the first chakra and ends in the
center of the labyrinth which represents the seventh
chakra; there is only one way to enter, which guides
to the center of the labyrinth. The purpose of the
ritual is to go with the eyes closed and barefoot,
while touching with each foot the river stones, the
different meridians of the body connected to the
cranial area get to stimulate. Step by step, passing
through the labyrinth, internal mind noise begins to
disappear and emerges more introspective clarity.
Labyrinth symbolizes the soul-searching. Hydro
chakral therapy is one of the exclusive and unique
services offered to balance energy centers of our
being. Massage is performed with a quartz geode
and energized purified water and free of chemicals
or bleach. Also this therapy is given with relaxing
music and in periods of two minutes Tibetan bells
ring as an indication of changing to the next chakra.
When it finishes, they are waiting to pamper you in
a wood bed with delicious pillows, grapes coated in
chocolate and sparkling wine.
The atmosphere in Hostal de la Luz is designed to
generate a balance in all aspects; it has a pyramid
in spa area to stabilize and balance the energy. Right
in that place, energy vortices have been found and
they are connected to a perfect triangle towards
India and Machu Picchu. Inside the pyramid there
is an ideal place to practice deeper meditations.
Ashram is the navel of Hostal de la Luz, it is the
source of the power of this wonderful place. It is a
luxury spot but at the same time a classic one to keep
a quiet mind and release tension. It has symbols from
many religions and philosophies, its purpose is that
all guests feel represented. The Chartres labyrinth
No necesitas
el primer chakra y finaliza en el centro del laberinto que representa el séptimo chakra;
Y poco a

impressive, after a long meditation about what you do not need
in your life, it takes place the ritual of giving all that to Mother

VinoterapiaWine therapy
por/By: ana castillo Keller
Wine therapy is defined as the skin care through grape
products. This therapy exploits the benefits of using
grapes bagasse, it means the rest of the grapes when
the juice was drawn to make wine (seeds, skin and
the pulp of the grape). Bagasse contains many active
ingredients that applied to skin, gets it newer, softer
and smoother. This is the reason why wine therapy
has become recently more popular in cosmetic and
beauty world.

used this way. It wasn´t until the beginning of 1970´s that
Joseph Vercauteron, a french pharmacologist, discovered
that grapes are rich in polyphenols and have amazing
benefits for skin. Since then emerged wine therapy as we
know it actually.
BENEfITs of WINE ThERAPy
But, what makes wine, grapes and/or wine therapy son
wonderful for our skin?
The answer is polyphenols, they are powerful antioxidants
and they are in high concentrations in grape seeds, as in their
skin and veins.
Several experiments have reported that this substance has
anticancer effects, anti-aging and anti-inflammatory benefits.
And, therefore, it strengths cells, reduces inflammation and
delays the aging process of skin.

organismo.

Wine therapy is an ancient practice and an effective pleasure.

Generalmente hacen homenaje a piezas clásicas.

The Longines heriTage MiLiTary 1938
Have a sober esthetic of military watch inspiration. They are reliable
and easy to read. There are three versions on steel: sober, more
similar to the original; second time zone and chronographer. The
three of them have fluted crown leveled to the case and a synthetic
fabric black strap with white sewing enhancing contrast.
The model 24 hours has a case 42 mm diameter, has a hot red dial to
the second time zone, enhancing over black dial.
There are watch models that seduce us because of their machinery,
functions or design; besides they are easy to purchase. There are
others more desirable because they are limited edition. More than
timekeepers, they are jewelry with an exceptional handcrafted work.
Like every year, in Baselworld, the most important jewelry and
watch fest in the world, takes place in Basel, Switzerland, several
breathless pieces were presented. They are unique watches that took
hundreds of hours of work, made in precious metals, and of course,
as well, they tell the time.

Swatch 30th anniverSary model
This brand is perhaps the most emblematic of the Swiss watchmaking industry, because thanks
to its creation and development, 80´s crisis was overcome, in that time quartz was dominating
and putting end to mechanic watch industry. And in some way, thanks to that, today successful
brands owe it to one man: Nicolas Hayek (may he rest in peace).
He believed at first strongly in mechanic movements; he encouraged creativity and innovation
through Swatch watches, called like this joining the words Swiss + watches.
He had faith in ancient Swiss watchmaker knowledge, supported it with a large investment and
making 10 million of Swatch mechanic watches. This brand has created its own language and
has given voice to artists such as Haring, to mention but one, he has expressed what happened
in the world between 1983-2013. Which is why there are collection of watches that tell facts and
humanity´s concerns during last 30 years. For example, Berlin wall watches. 30 years Swatch
anniversary Model will be a collection one, without a doubt.
“above all we are all dreamers and watches must tell stories. this piece has a lance work that will recall memories”,
phillipe delhotal, watchmaking artistic director of hermés. Who answered about the values of the brand, he named three: simplicity, capacity to
amaze and curiosity.

El Jaguar is a course designed by Jack Nicklaus and it
is located just 10 minutes away from Mérida, to Puerto
Progreso road, and within the complex called Yucatán
Country Club, access to visitors is allowed to enjoy the
spectacular golf course wide spaced between fairways,
besides its 11 lakes and cenotes are notable, surrounded
by tropical forest, specific to the region.
It is recommended to play earliest as possible because
of the hot weather owned by the region, and have a
light breakfast in the spectacular casa club is highly
advisable.
It is worth visiting the famous Paseo de Montejo and its
impressive mansions, famous familiar bar restaurants
with live music, having a drink and regional gastronomic
snacks (all of them included for the price of one drink),
you can taste from panuchos, salbutes and relleno negro
to cochinita pibil, it is possible to have refreshing drinks,
the effect is simple: dishes don´t stop until asking for the
check. Some famous places are Guacamayas, Eladio´s
and La Prosperidad.

WhERE To sTAy?
Merida offers several hotel options: from prestigious hotel chains to
boutique independent hotels, the same in downtown to both on Paseo
de Montejo.
In the late afternoon, there is nothing better than taking a horse
ride on carriage and stopping by downtown, near the portals, at
Colón Ice Cream, and have a famous champola (a mixture of fruit
ice cream and milk).
Nightfall is cool and it´s a tradition to the present day to keep the
houses with doors opened and place chairs outside on the sidewalk
to feel the breeze and chat with the neighbors.
Thus, while the time to have dinner comes, it is worth to know the
Plaza Mayor, place and cradle of folk singers and famous composers,
there still it is possible to pay a trio to give a romantic serenade.
If ever staying during the weekend, don´t miss Mérida on Sunday,
because you will find dozens of handcrafts stands, music, dance and

wise initiative from the government, that permits to close downtown

Debido a
The history of Pilates method has bonds so unlikely as Greco-
roman gymnastics, World War I wounded and yoga. Its creator,
boxer as well Joseph Pilates, developed this system based on his
self-study knowledge and his personal experience, as well in his
childhood, because he suffered a variety of ailments.
Around 1914, Pilates –borned in Germany and resident by
then in England—was interned in a prison war camp. Thanks
to this and his yoga studies, Greco-roman gymnastics and
Zen, had the opportunity to implement his rehab techniques,
precisely with injured soldiers from the battles.
From that time, 100 years have passed and today Pilates is one of
the most revolutionary techniques to be fit, mostly among women,
but recently had registered an important increase in the “male
market”, mainly because famous athletes are practicing it.

Men.
obtienes potencia, rendimiento, resistencia, tonicidad, coordinación, equilibrio y destreza.
cardiovascular y, además, elimina contracturas y rigideces musculares.
This original and unique method, was popular
since 30´s among dancers and choreographers.
That decade, Pilates and his wife Clara, already
lived in New York, where they opened the
very first Pilates´s studio in the world.
Joseph Pilates´ studio stayed opened until
ten years after his death, in 1967, thanks to
his labor´s wife. His legacy was preserved by his
students, who put it on practice and spread it
all over the world.
LookING foR RELAxATIoN AND sTRENGTh?
Getting into closely and live Pilates experience
demystifies fully that is a system exclusively
for women. It strengths all body muscles,
especially abdominal, from where the system
centers itself, to lengthen the body through
breathing.
Joseph Pilates ́ knowledge about Zen and yoga
are present in relaxation and dynamism exercises,
combined with muscles control and strength.
Certainly, results are a better oxygenated and
reinvigorated body, and a complete superior
physical condition.
Where do we practice exercises? In contrast
to other physical trainings, Pilates takes place
with equipment created by Pilates himself, the
Reformer. It´s a machine with pulleys, strings
and springs which allow to combine resistance
and exercises.
IT´s NoT A ChICk ThING
Men have particular interests when they do a
fitness program or practice any sport. Some
of them are looking for muscle development,
others gain resistance, some others to get stress
relief. And there´s a growing number who had
discovered that everything is available in one
system: Pilates.
Recently, some studios offer among their
services “Pilates for Men”. They had to
“tropicalize” the term to demystify it, since
success in women created a general idea that it
was just designed for them.
However, Pilates had proved that gaining or
becoming more flexible, as well as getting a
postural correction, ¡it´s a guy thing too!
To do after lifting weights, to prevent injures at
gym or styling and lift up butt (guys dedicate
hours to train that part of their bodies), Pilates
has special exercises.
If you do jogging, practice tennis, golf, football
or swimming, Pilates completes your training
routine. If what you like is running, you will do
it more and with less effort.
If all that is not enough, take a look at the NBA
and NFL players, as well as golf and football
players, such as famous as Puyol, from FC
Barcelona, who already included Pilates as
theirs daily training.
Pilates can help you to achieve that dream
body, to feel strong, elastic and fit; to
get relaxation and stress relief, to shape
every part of your body just like sculptors
do. Besides you get power, performance,
resistance, tonicity, coordination, balance
and skill.
Not less important, this system increases
vitality; prevents and rehabs musculoskeletal
system injuries as well as a postural correction
and rectifies bad habits.
Breathing, fundamental in Pilates, increases
concentration and improves cardiovascular
system function, for sure removes contractures
and muscle stiffness.
These are convincing and satisfactory
benefits, and above all when you look at the
mirror and notice your body is just as you
designed it, of course with Joseph Hubertus
Pilates help.
