Findings from the extensive three-year Income Protection Gap global study by Zurich Insurance Company Ltd in collaboration with the University of Oxford say, likely not! The study revealed that 50% of Hongkongers do not have sufficient savings to cover expenses in case of income loss for more than six months, and that a staggering 54% of the workforce have already had experiences of income loss in their working life due to serious illness or disability. This finding is alarming, as out of the eleven countries/regions surveyed, Hong Kong workers are more likely (54%) to experience income loss in working life than any of the respondents of the markets surveyed (average 44%). Of those that experienced income loss, over one-third (38%) suffered income loss for longer than six months, yet 5 in 10 individuals do not have sufficient savings to cover expenses in case of income loss for more than half a year. This gap in money that is set aside versus actual need is referred to as an Income Protection Gap, and it could seriously deplete household budgets, savings and retirement accounts. Mr. Eric Hui, Chief Executive Officer, Zurich Insurance (Hong Kong), said, “The study highlights a serious issue with income protection gaps in Hong Kong. Income protection is not a pleasant topic, and it’s complex, so people often need a trigger to motivate them to act. We hope the report will stimulate debate, and help more people in Hong Kong prioritize income protection, seek professional advice, and formulate a long-term plan.” As the new year approaches, people contemplate making all kinds of changes. For 2018, why not make an effort to evaluate yours and your loved ones’ income protection needs, and seek professional advice for any questions you may have? Are you prepared for an extended period of income loss due to unexpected events such as illness or disability? Findings from the extensive three-year Income Protection Gap global study by Zurich Insurance Company Ltd in collaboration with the University of Oxford say, likely not!

Another winning year for ZurichWe take our customers to heart and we are delighted our efforts have shone through in the multiple awards recognitions this year.

Our customer-centric culture has once again earned us Gold in the Mystery Caller Assessment Award – Finance and Insurance category, at the 18th Annual Hong Kong Call Centre Association Awards. This year’s triumph marks our fourth consecutive win. Judged by a set of stringent criteria, the Mystery Caller Assessment Award is a competition that spans six months. During the assessment period, mystery callers from the Hong Kong Quality Assurance Agency make calls every month to the participating call centers and evaluate their service quality.

Zurich was also named the Most Favorite Travel Insurance Services by U Magazine in the annual U Travel Awards 2017. Now in its fifth year, the U Travel Awards has become one of the most credible and recognized awards in the travel industry. This year, over 110,000 readers of the magazine and a panel of judges determined the esteemed winners. In the Insurance Company category, Zurich excelled over four other strong competitors to become the public’s travel-insurer-of-choice.

Last but not least, our outstanding life insurance products also brought us compelling acknowledgements at the International Adviser Life Awards 2017. Hong Kong brought home two awards in this global award arena, including the Best Regular Premium

Investment Product and the Best Protection Product.

We extend our warmest gratitude to our customers and business partners, as without you, none of this would have been possible. So thank you, and we look forward to serving you with our utmost service commitment in the coming year!

Product debutProtect SMEs from cyber risk. Zurich proudly launches CyberCare Liability and Privacy InsuranceIn the O2O (online to offline) era, internet offers more business opportunities to small and medium enterprises (SMEs) but at the same time provides a gateway for cyberattacks. There is an increasing trend reflected in the Global Risks Report 2017*, that cyberattack ranks 6th in threat this year, while it was out of top 10 in 2016.

SME owners may think anti-virus software and firewall will suffice and often underestimate the impact of cyberattacks. In reality, just a click to a spam may lead to huge extra expenses and even legal responsibilities to SMEs. While no security system is infallible, insurance could safeguard businesses and provide them with extra peace of mind by transferring part of their risk.

With more than 20 years of sophisticated experience in cyber security and privacy protection, Zurich is proud to launch the CyberCare Liability and Privacy Insurance (CyberCare), protecting SMEs against various loss events, from a cyber security incident to a privacy breach event.

CyberCare’s key features include:• Multiple legal liability coverage covering security and privacy liability and internet

media liability• Contingency extra expenses coverage covering privacy breach and digital asset

replacement costs to protect and reduce loss followed by an insured event• Cashless settlement for data recovery by local expert• Hassle-free and simplified application process with just a few “Yes/No” questions • Affordable premium• 24x7 centralized post loss incident hotline

#Insurance knowledge you need to know

Immediately after a car accident, you might be too shaken to remember what you need to do, and more importantly, what you should not do. Knowing what mistakes to avoid can help make an insurance claim go smoothly and avoid disputes. One of the most important things to remember is to never admit fault, hence never sign on-the-spot settlement agreements. There is a process for determining fault and it is best to let the experts figure it out. So in the unfortunate event of a car accident, keep calm and always remember to file a police report and notify your insurance company.

As 2017 draws to a close, here’s a gentle reminder to review your motor insurance plan for the coming year!

It is an opportunity for China to close the potential economic gap that may arise due to its demographic shift and to promote cross-border trade.
