Bavaria is one of the leading industrial regions not only in Germany but also in Europe.

In 2008 it scored its fifteenth export record in succession.

Companies are generally well placed in terms of global competition – especially in the

present economic situation – if they boost their innovation potential as a leverage for

sustained success, concentrating on current challenges and also pursuing future

technologies.

The automotive industry is one of Bavaria's key industrial sectors – with worldwide

leading manufacturers, a network of excellent suppliers and innovative start-ups as well

as a strong infrastructure for research and development.

This sector stands for high efficiency, quality and special innovative strength.

In particular the technical progress offers unique opportunities for the mostly SME

suppliers producing over 70 % of a car's value.

The realization of innovations calls for networking across core disciplines of the

automotive industry and the extension of added-value chains bringing in new technolo-

gies like power engineering.

In 1997, the Bavarian State Government started the Bavarian Innovation and

Cooperation Initiative for the Automotive Suppliers Industry (BAIKA) to support the

process of networking. Bayern Innovativ Ltd. coordinates BAIKA and brings together

the automotive industry, relevant technology companies from other sectors as well as

research institutes on regional, national and international level thus forming sustainable

network structures.

Today, the BAIKA network comprises more than 2,200 companies and scientific

institutions from 50 countries, some 1,100 alone coming from Bavaria.

The principal aim of the Cluster Initiative launched in 2006 by the Bavarian State

Government is to further enhance cooperation among companies and institutes in

Bavaria. Short distances between cooperation partners are a particular asset for linking

development and production more intensively thus allowing appropriate speed and

flexibility necessary to meet rapidly changing market demands.

Welcome to “Zulieferer Innovativ 2009”

03_12S_Jahreskongress_Zuli09_e 06.05.2009 16:06 Uhr Seite 6

Bayern Innovativ has also taken on the management of the Automotive Cluster and is

setting new trends through synergies with BAIKA.

This year Bayern Innovativ is planning and organising the eleventh annual automotive

supplier congress “Zulieferer Innovativ“ – one of the most important international

meeting-points for the automotive industry – in collaboration with the German Associa-

tion of the Automotive Industry (VDA), Berlin and the IFG-Ingolstadt and with extensive

support from the Bavarian State Ministry of Economic Affairs, Infrastructure, Transport

and Technology.

Representatives from the fields of politics, industry and science will give their views

on current topics in the automotive industry, ranging from anticipated framework

conditions and economic perspectives in the various vehicle segments to technological

trends. The technical focus will be on innovations regarding energy, emissions and

mobility, novel concepts for interior design as well as individual developments in

technologies and systems.

The combination of congress and accompanying exhibition makes “Zulieferer Innovativ”

a highly attractive marketplace for establishing new cooperations for innovations of

tomorrow.

I wish the congress every success and cordially invite all interested parties to participate.
