The Limpopo Geographical Names Committee (LGNC) warned this week that the public and media should im-mediately stop using the name Louis Trichardt, following the Minister of Arts and Culture Paul Mashatile’s an-nouncement that the name Makhado has been approved.

The name Makhado was published the first time in the government gazette in June 2003. By law, a period of 30 days is granted for objections. Objections were received and eventually the case was heard in the High Court in Pretoria in August 2005, with Judge MK Legodi ruling that Louis Trichardt’s name was Makhado. That was in September, coinciding with the jubilant unveiling of the statue of King Ramabulana Makhado at the tourism information centre in Louis Trichardt. In the meantime, the Chairpersons Association (CA) was granted leave to appeal against

the judgment and succeeded to win their appeal case in Bloemfontein. The five appeal court judges set aside the name change in March 2007, due to insufficient consultation.

Hence the name of the town was Louis Trichardt again. Following this ruling, the Makhado Municipality restarted the process and presented the name Makhado to the Limpopo Geographical Names Committee (LGNC). LGNC was satisfied with the process of consultations and recommended the name change to the South African Geographical Names Council.

Now that the minister has approved and published the name Makhado in the Government Gazette of 14 October, the LGNC wants an immediate enforcing of the use of the name. “The committee wants to make it clear that members of the public and media must stop using the old name Louis Trichardt to use the new reapproved Makhado...

“The committee will come with a series

of meetings to enforce the implementation of the new name in order for the public to stop using the old name, which residents of the Makhado area feel is on no account associated with them, but the old regime. The committee will address the critical issue of changing all signage around the province. The committee will engage the department of Roads and Transport together with Makhado Municipality to fast track this process of changing signs to avoid confusing people,” stated LGNC spokesperson Mr Peter Moruthane on October 17 in a press release.

The question now, however, is whether the LGNC is jumping the gun with respect to the use of the name Makhado, since the 30 days objection period to the name change only expires on 14 November?

“It is totally unlawful to start enforcing the name at this stage,” said attorney André Naudé, chairperson of the CA.

South Africa has started de-porting undocumented Zim-babweans, with more that 600 deportees having arrived in their home country through the Beit Bridge Border Post on Wednesday and Thursday last week.

The first batch of 261 illegal immigrants, mostly men, ar-rived at the Beit Bridge border in four luxurious buses on Wednesday. The second group of 370 was brought back home on Thursday.

According to South African Home Affairs officials who were escorting them, the de-portees were the first group of undocumented Zimbabweans to be deported. The South African government recently announced that it would resume the deportation of Zimbabwe-

ans who failed to regularise their stay in that country dur-ing the recent documentation exercise.

“We brought a total of 261 deportees, most of whom are ex-convicts, including those who were recently rounded up around the Johannesburg area,” said an SA Home Affairs offi-cial, who declined to be named.

The undocumented Zimbab-weans were temporarily kept at Lindela Detention Centre outside Johannesburg. When Limpopo Mirror visited Beit Bridge Border Post, our re-porter observed that some il-legal cross-border transporters had already started touting for “clients” as the deportees shouted through the windows of their buses in response to the transporters.

“Let’s meet at the local Cal-tex service station and we will help you to cross back to South Africa. That is an easy task for us,” shouted one illegal cross-border transport operator.

Most of them charge be-tween R300 and R800 to fa-cilitate smooth passage of un-documented Zimbabweans into South Africa.

The Zimbabwean assistant regional immigration manager at Beit Bridge Border Post, Mrs Tamari Shadaya, confirmed that they had received the deportees “We received the deportees and our officials vetted them before they proceeded to the local International Organisation for Migration (IOM) centre. We are expecting more deportations during the course of the month,” she said.

When Louis Trichardt first became Makhado, several sectors of the community warned against the cost implication to change all the signage prematurely. Sign boards with the name Makhado

appeared with exceptional speed. After the appeal court decision, it took more than three years to get some of the boards changed back to Louis Trichardt again. The CA says it is surprising that the changing of road signage will suddenly be fast tracked.

“This is an indication of the fact that the whole process is po-litically motivated and not in the interest of the nation. The whole

name change process polarises cultural groups. At grassroots level there is a synergy between cultural groups that politicians destroy. Their interest is not to serve communities,” Naudé said.

Meanwhile, the office of Min-ister Mashatile indicated that they would convey the reasons for changing the name to Makhado to the Zoutpansberger/Limpopo Mirror by next week.

Die bus het in ‘n kwessie van minute feitlik uitgebrand. Chaos het ontstaan soos wat passasiers probeer het om hul besittings van die brandende bus te red, terwyl

party in groepies by die ingang van die tonnel gestaan het om uit die reënweer te bly. Weens die intense hitte van die vuur word daar tans gevrees dat perman-ente skade aan die tonnel se dak aangerig is. Nooddienswerkers moes al koetsend stukke grond en sement ontduik wat op hulle neergeval het. Sadike het teen druktyd bevestig dat die tonnels tot verdere kennisgewing gesluit sou wees. Hy kon nie enige aan-duiding gee rakende die omvang van die skade aan die tonnels nie.

Wait until Monday … This was the message to farmers along the Vivo road when they were struck by a power interruption on Sunday afternoon.

According to Ms Estelle Kemp, who farms about 45km from Louis Trichardt along this stretch of road, the power went off at around 17:00. Being de-pendent on electricity for their livelihood and safety, they tried in vain to contact the Makhado Municipality’s after-hours call centre in Eltivillas, Louis Trich-ardt. Twenty calls later and they were still no closer to an answer.

When Kemp eventually got hold of someone at the electri-city department on a different number, they were informed that the call centre staff had closed up shop and gone home. The mes-sage to them was to wait until Monday, when the municipality was open again.

The call centre staff apparently abandoned their posts out of pro-test with regard to overtime pay-ment. They deserted their posts, despite the fact that the call centre is an “essential service”, meaning that, by law, the office should be manned at all times.

Municipal spokesperson Mr Louis Bobodi on Tuesday con-firmed the incident.

“The call centre was left un-manned as from 16:45 on Sunday until Monday morning. We do not know the exact reasons, but we are busy investigating as to what had happened to the person who was on duty, and appropriate action will be taken, based on the findings,” Bobodi said.

As for the farmers, power sup-ply was eventually restored by 21:30 on Sunday, although one phase was still out and was only repaired on Monday.

Die 36-jarige Bezuidenhout, wat in 1993 by Hoërskool Louis Trichardt gematrikuleer het en wie se pa en suster steeds in die Soutpansberg woonagtig is, is Saterdag, 8 Oktober, koelbloe-dig voor sy huis in Potchefstroom met messe doodgesteek.

Polisiewoordvoerder op Potchefstroom sers. Karen Terdoux het Dinsdag bevestig dat twee mans op 12 Oktober in verband met die moord aangekeer is. Die twee mans, Kagiso Tiba (24) en Letlhogoholo Moretlwe (25), het op 14 Oktober in die distrikshof op Potchefstroom verskyn op ‘n klag van moord. Beide het aan-soek om borg gedoen, maar die Staat het hul borg teengestaan. Die twee sou teen druktyd op Woensdag, 19 Oktober, weer in die hof verskyn om nog ‘n aansoek om borg te bring.

Die Voorsittersvereniging (VV) gaan die tweede naamsverandering van Louis Trichardt na Makhado teenstaan.

Dit volg nadat die Minister van Kuns en Kultuur, mnr. Paul Mashatile, die naam Makhado as nuwe naam van Louis Trichardt op 14 Oktober in die Staatskoerant gepubliseer het.

Die VV sê dat die naam Makhado stil-stil in die staatskoerant gepubliseer is, nadat hulle uitdruklik in briefwisseling met die vorige minister, Lulu Xingwana, asook met Mashatile versoek het dat hulle [die VV] daarvan in kennis gestel moet word indien die minister ‘n nuwe naam sou publiseer. Dit het nie gebeur nie en die VV moes via die media

van die naamsverandering te hore kom.“Die VV is dus weereens glad nie as ‘n be-

langegroep erken of gekonsulteer nie,” het Naudé Maandag gesê. Die appèlhof het in Maart 2007 uitspraak gelewer dat die eerste naamsverande-ring na Makhado tersyde gestel moes word, juis as gevolg van onvoldoende konsultasie.

Die VV sien die naamsverandering na Makhado as ‘n poging om mense te polariseer.

“Hierdie is glad nie ‘n ontsluiting van die siner-gie of samewerking tussen die kulturele groepe nie. Die man op straat het nooit gekom met die behoefte dat die dorp se naam moet verander nie. Hierdie is ‘n polities-gedrewe proses, wat nie in landsbelang geskied nie, maar vir eie posisionele gewin gedryf word,” sê Naudé.

Mashatile is gevra vir sy redes vir die naams-verandering en of die VV se briewe ontvang en beantwoord is, maar sy kantoor het by monde van die adjunk-direkteur van kommunikasie, me. Premi Appalraju, gesê dat dit nie vir hulle moontlik sal wees om hierdie week te antwoord nie.

Die Limpopo Geografiese Naamskomitee (LGNK) was egter vinnig om te reageer op die naamsverandering. Hulle het hul tevredenheid met die konsultasieproses uitgespreek. Naudé sê egter dat die “sogenaamde” konsultasieproses hierdie keer nog meer blatante foute bevat as die eerste keer.

“Ons het ‘n beter saak hierdie keer, omdat daar nog meer administratiewe ongeregtigheid gepleeg is as met die vorige keer. Sekere uitgesoekte groepe is gekonsulteer oor wat die naam moet wees, asof dit ‘n feit is dat die naam moet verander,” sê Naudé.

Naudé sê dat hulle vasberade is om reg en ge-regtigheid te laat geskied.

“Ons kan nie toelaat dat die goeie gesindheid en samewerking wat daar onder die kultuurgroepe bestaan, bederf word deur politici wat ons ter wille van eie gewin wil polariseer nie. Die naamsaak is deel van ‘n groter prentjie. Ons kan nie ongereg-tigheid toelaat nie, want dan is die volgende stap dat alle grondwetlike regte vertrap word,” sê Naudé.

In Memoriam

Oud-inwoner ná kort siekbed oorlede‘n Oud-inwoner van Louis Trichardt, oom Hen-nie Roos (83), is op Sondag, 16 Oktober oorlede.

Wyle Oom Hennie was sedert 1965 ‘n inwoner van Louis Trichardt en was vir baie jare werksaam as stasievoorman by Transnet hier. Na sy aftrede was hy ook vir ‘n geruime tyd by Werda Motors werksaam.

In 2004 verhuis Oom Hennie na Krugersdorp waar hy by sy een seun, Johan, gaan woon het. Hy is op 27 September in die Netcare Krugersdorp Hospitaal opgeneem met longontstekeking, waarna sy toestand versleg het. Oom Hennie is gebore op 13 Junie 1928 en was vir grootste deel van sy lewe

in die Soutpansberg-distrik woonagtig. Hy was getroud met tannie Hansie Roos, wat baie jare werksaam was by Limpopo Melkery. Tannie Hansie is in 1997 oorlede. Oom Hennie laat sy vier seuns, Henk, Cobus, Johan en Christo agter, asook nege kleinkinders en ses agterkleinkinders. Sy ter-aardebestelling vind plaas op Vrydag, 21 Oktober om 10:30 by die Louis Trichardt begraafplaas. ‘n Gedenkdiens sal daarna vir hom om 11:00 vanuit die Hervormde Kerk Louis Trichardt-gemeente gehou word, onder leiding van ds. Phillip Horn.

Dubbel verjaardagvieringe vir dorp se HervormersDie Hervormde Kerk Louis Trichardt het Sondag, 16 Oktober, nie net die kerkgebou se 50ste verjaardag gevier nie, maar ook die gemeente se 95ste bestaansjaar.

Die gemeente is op 1 Januarie 1916 gestig as die tweede oudste Hervormde-gemeente in die Ring van Zoutpansberg en een van die oudste gemeentes in die Hervormde Kerk.

Die eerste kerkgebou was geleë op die perseel van die ou Werda Motors op die hoek van Krogh- en Rissikstraat. In 1960 is in alle erns en met groot opwinding begin met die oprigting van die huidige kerkgebou. Dit is feestelik in Augustus 1961 ingewy. Gemeente Zoutpansberg het in 1998 afgestig van gemeente Louis Trichardt as die jongste gemeente in die Ring van Zoutpansberg.

“Ons het dus die eer gehad om die tweede oudste en die jongste Hervormde-gemeentes in die Ring van Zoutpansberg in ons dorp te vestig,” sê ds. Phillip Horn, huidige leraar van die gemeente.

Die gemeente het Sondag ook die eer gehad om vir mev. D. J. Labuschagne, predi-kantsvrou tydens die oprigting en in wy ding van die huidige kerkge-bou, as eregas te ont-vang en haar in te span met die onthulling van ‘n triptiek bestaande uit drie collages wat die oprigting en inwyding van die huidige kerkge-bou uitbeeld.

Sondag se feestelike herdenking is begin met `n dankseggingsere-diens in `n vol kerkge-

bou. Die tema vir die prediking was Ebenhaeser: Tot hiertoe het God ons gehelp. Dit is ook die teks op die hoeksteen van die kerkgebou.

“Daarna het die gemeente heerlik gekoek en tee. Die onthulling van die triptiek het vir groot opwinding gesorg want met dank en waardering teenoor God, kon ons vir ‘n tyd stil word met ‘n terugkyk in die verlede van ons gemeente en gemeenskap. Ons het opnuut onder die diepe indruk gekom van God se wonder-baarlike besturing van die geskiedenis en Christus se instandhouding van sy kerk,” het Horn gesê.

Die olienhoutskinkbord, wat uitgeloot is ter stuiwing van die gemeentefondse, is ook tydens die geleentheid oorhandig. Dit is gewen deur mev. Dihan van der Merwe. Die skinkbord is ‘n duursame erfstuk gemaak deur oom Danie Lourens, die ge-meente se langsdienende ouderling. Oom Danie, alreeds in sy tagtigs, het hiermee sy sesde en laaste skinkbord ten bate van gemeentelike fondsinsameling gemaak.

“Groot en opregte dankie aan Oom

Danie as een van die grootste en kleurryk-ste figure in die gemeente,” het Horn gesê.

Na al die formele aksies het die ge-meente die dag afgesluit met ‘n behoorlike braai en saamkuier. Die gemeente se fees-vieringe eindig egter nie hier nie, want hul Verjaarbasaar met die tema Gaan groot of gaan huis toe, lê nog voor.

“Dit is met groot geloofsvertroue in ons Hemelse Vader, God van die verlede, hede en toekoms, en Jesus Christus die Be-waker van sy Kerk, dat ons gesterk deur sy Woord en Gees ons toekoms as gemeente van Christus tegemoet gaan. Ons opregte dank en waardering aan elkeen in Louis Trichardt en die gemeenskap wat ons oor die jare heen so goedgesind was en ons onderskraag en ondersteun het. Dit is voorwaar ‘n heerlike en baie besonderse voorreg om Hervormde-gemeente te kan wees hier ter plaatse. Ons dra ook ons dorp en omgewing aan die Here op, met die bede dat Hy ons lewens hier sal bestuur tot uitbouing van sy koninkryk,” het Horn gesê.

Van houtinlegwerk weet Oom Danie Lourens baie, maar op 83 sê hy laat sy oë hom deesdae bietjie in die steek. Hier staan Oom Danie by sy sesde en laaste olienhoutskinkbord wat hy ter fondsinsameling gemaak het vir die kerk om uitgeloot te word. Die wenner van dié skinkbord, mev. Dihan van der Merwe, het Sondag die skinkbord in ontvangs geneem. Dihan was 10 jaar oud toe die kerk in 1961 ingewy is. Sy en haar ma mev. D. J. Buiten hiervoor is daar ook ‘n armdruk-, boerewors- en fotoraaikompetisie, asook hoede en serpe-strikdaskompetisie, skyfskietkompetisie en blaaspypkompetisie.

Tyd min om in te skryf vir kompetisie

Diwali, the Festival of Lights, will be celebrated by the local as well as the international Hindu community on 26 October.

During this festive period, firecrackers will be discharged at the homes of members of the local Hindu community.

The Festival of Lights signifies the return of Ram to his kingdom, after 14 years of banishment to the forest. The local Hindu community will dis-charge fireworks from 19 October to 2 November, between the hours of 18:00 and 23:00. They will also celebrate the dawning of the New Year 2068 on 27 October.

Die streek se fotograwe het net tot Maandag, 31 Oktober kans om in te skryf vir die Zout-pansberger en Limpopo Mirror se baie gewilde jaarlikse kalenderfoto-kompetisie.

‘n Totale prysgeld van R6 000 is op die spel, met 12 weninskrywings wat gekies sal word, een foto vir elke maand. Die weninskrywings sal in ‘n A2-formaat 2012-kalender opgeneem word wat deur die Zoutpansberger en Limpopo Mirror vir bemarkingsdoeleindes gebruik sal word. Die kalen-der sal ook teen ‘n minimale bedrag te koop wees.

Slegs hoë-kwaliteit foto’s met temas wat duidelik uniek is aan die Soutpansberg sal oorweeg word. Wildlewefoto’s is welkom, alhoewel die koerant-groep meer inskrywings wil sien rondom die streek se kulturele erfenis, sy mense en landskapstonele.

Die kompetisie word beperk tot ‘n maksimum van vyf inskrywings per deelnemer. Die deelne-mer moet self vooraf sy/haar vyf keuses maak.

Die foto’s moet ver-kieslik in hoë-resolusie, digitale formaat (CD) wees. Geen selfoon- of poskaartgrootte film-foto’s sal in ag geneem word nie.

Op elke inskrywing moet daar duidelik aangedui word wie die fotograaf is, die kon-takbesonderhede, watter kamera en lens (indien beskikbaar) gebruik is en waar en wanneer die foto geneem is. Al-hoewel tegniese aspekte

soos die kwaliteit en skerpheid van die foto’s in ag geneem sal word, hoef die foto uiteindelik slegs ‘n mooi prentjie te maak.

Elk van die wenfoto’s wat gekies word, sal teen R500 vanaf die fotograaf aangekoop word. Inskry-wings kan by die kantore van die Zoutpansberger te Joubertstraat 16B, Louis Trichardt ingehandig word. Die sluitingsdatum vir inskrywings is 31 Oktober.

Die skoolsaal was gepak en almal het elke item geniet. “Knap gedaan aan al die personeel en almal betrokke. ‘n Spesiale dank aan me. Die Soutpansberg Distrikslandbou-unie (SDLU) het tydens hul algemene raadsvergadering op 12 Oktober hul nuwe dagbestuur en kommo-diteitsverteenwoordigers aangewys.

Tydens die vergadering, wat by die Mopane Boe-revereniging se saal aangebied is, is mnr. Stephen Hoffman herverkies as voorsitter van die SDLU, met mnr. Fritz Ahrens as ondervoorsitter. Die ander lede van die dagbestuur is mnre. Doors le Roux, Japie van der Goot en Fanus Viviers.

Die kommoditeitsverteenwoordigers vir 2010 is mnre. Doors le Roux (veiligheid), Herman de Jager (veiligheid-sekundus), Schalk van der Walt (beeste en wild), Fritz Ahrens (grondsake), Wimpie Opperman (arbeid), ZC Pretorius (ekonomiese sake), Stoffel Joubert (jongboer) en Dries Joubert (media). Hoffman het gesê die SDLU is trots op sy leiers en dat dit voorwaar ‘n span is wat almal sal wil volg. “Die jaar 2012 beloof om ‘n interes-sante jaar te wees en die nuwe energieke span sal tot voordeel van die hele landelike gemeenskap wees,” het Hoffman gesê.

Met die eerste produksieveiling van Koperkop Hugenote van Henk en Gerda van Rensburg van Dendron op 7 Oktober was daar ongekende belang-stelling, wat gelei het tot hoë pryse vir beide bulle en vroulike diere.

Kopers vanuit die hele Limpopo provin-sie, sowel as kopers so ver as Lindley en

Warden vanuit die Vrystaat, het vir die veiling geregistreer. Tydens die veiling was daar selfs telefoniese bieëry vanuit London, Engeland.

Altesaam 22 bulle is verkoop teen ‘n uitstekende gemiddelde prys van R29 200, met die hoogste prys van R66 000 wat betaal is. Nog twee bulle is ook verkoop

The Journey of Hope Breast Cancer Awareness Ride made a quick stop in Louis Trichardt last Wednesday. They consisted of a group diverse men and women, all cancer survivors, travelling the country while promoting optimism and encouragement among people. Their goal is to refute myths surrounding people in the towns, villages, and cities they visit. From left are Beverley Sterley (director), Marie Coertzen (CANSA Louis Trichardt), Cornelia Swanepoel (volunteer) and founding member as well as director of Journey of Hope Diane Parker.

The rod and the staff, is the Word of God. Heb. 4:12. For the Word of God is living and active. As you go through the valley you are not feeding on the tender grass, you have gotten beyond that. You now have the staff to walk with. The walking stick is God’s Word, and you draw your bread and water from the walking stick, the rod.

“Your rod and Your staff they comfort me.” It is in these testings and these trials and these strange experiences you go through, that you are driven to your Bible, and you search the Bible to find a parallel case with yours, and you feed on the inspired Word of God. You draw your nourishment, not from the past, but from the Word of God.

When will I get out of that place, some may be asking? Some stay a few months, and some longer. You get through when the pure Word of God becomes your soul food. When you get through, suddenly, you are led out into a large place.

Dit was ‘n genotvolle oggend waar almal lekker bederf is met eet-goed en optredes van ons talentvolle leerders.

Dit was vir ons ‘n voorreg om julle hier te hê. Ons bedank almal wat gehelp het om van die dag ‘n groot sukses te maak, spesifiek me. E. Coetzee wat die saal versier het en me. S. Liebenberg wat alles georganiseer het.

Jongduifveiling lewer ‘n rekord omset

Die eerste MTN Polokwane-Tydren wat dié naweek in die Limpopo-Provinsie plaasvind, sal die gordyn oor een van die taaiste Suid-Afrikaanse tydrenkampioenskappe in baie jare laat sak.

Na sewe rondtes staan vier jaers en drie navigators wat almal in die voorste Super 2000-klas vir vierwielaangedrewe twee-liter motors deelneem, ‘n wiskun-dige kans om hul onderskeie kampioenskappe te wen. Met ‘n maksimum van 25 punte wat vir ‘n oorwinning ingepalm kan word en deelnemers wat van hul swakste resultaat van die seisoen ontslae moet raak, kan die finale uitslag verskeie vorms aanneem.

Zimbabwe se Conrad Rauten-bach (Green Fuel-Ford Fiesta) lei die jaerskampioenskap, met ‘n totaal van 125 punte na sewe renne wat tot dusver plaasgevind het en sonder dat hy van sy swak-ste stel punte ontslae geraak het. Hy het ‘n voorsprong van nege punte bo Mark Cronje (Sasol-Ford Fiesta) en die verdedigende kampioen, Enzo Kuun (BP-Volk-

swagen Polo). Johnny Gemmell (Castrol-Toyota Auris) is vierde, 23 punte agter Rautenbach.

A l d i e k a m p i o e n s k a p -mededingers sal vir niks minder as die maksimum hoeveelheid punte dié naweek mik nie. Hulle sal egter hul storie moet ken, aan-gesien daar ten minste vier ander mededingers is wat in staat is om die laaste tydren te wen.

Leeroy Poulter en Elvene Coetzee (Castrol-Toyota Au-ris) kan reeds ‘n sege agter hul name skryf nadat hulle die Sasol-Tydren in April gewen het. Die voormalige kampioene en BP-Volkswagen-spanmaats, Hergen Fekken/Pierre Arries en Jan Habig/Robert Paisley, het nie die beste seisoen beleef nie en sal vir ‘n oorwinning mik.

Charl Wilken en Greg Godrich (Basil Read/bizhub-Ford Fiesta) het al naby aan ‘n oorwinning gekom en het twee keer tweede geëindig, maar hulle kon twee renne nie voltooi nie en dit het hul kanse op die kampioenskap ‘n knou gegee.

In die kampioenskap vir

tweewielaangedrewe motors in die Super 1600- en Super 1400-klasse heers daar ‘n twe-estryd tussen die broer- en sus-ter-span, Christoff en Celeste Snyders (S1600-Sabertek-VW Polo) wat 128 punte het en die voormalige kampioene, Craig Trott en Robbie Coetzee (Total-Toyota RunX), wat 10 punte agter hulle is. Beide spanne het bestendig podiumposisies aan-geteken, met die Snyderse wat drie keer gewen het.

Die tydren begin en eindig elk van die twee dae by die Polok-wane Polisieklub, oorkant die Peter Mokabastadion, wat ook as die tydrenhoofkantoor en die mediasentrum sal dien. Die eerste motor sal Saterdag om 07:00 afgesit word en die dag se aksie sal oor nege trajekte, met ‘n totaal van 127 kilometer, plaasvind. Die eerste motor sal ongeveer 16:00 by die einde wees.

Die tydren sal Sondag om 06:00 hervat word en sal korter wees om teen ongeveer 11:00 en sewe trajekte, met ‘n totaal van 77,30 kilometer, te eindig.

Die Hangklip Posduifklub op Louis Trichardt se jaarlikse jongduifveiling het Saterdag, 8 Oktober, plaasgevind en was ‘n reuse sukses.

‘n Rekord omset van ongeveer R151 000 is behaal met die

dui we wat op die veiling aange-bied was.

Die geld sal aangewend word as prysgeld wat verdeel sal word tussen die vier wedvlugte wat volgende jaar plaasvind. Die eerste 10 plekke van elke wedv-

Kofi Apea-Adu of Louis Trichardt High School has been selected for the U/17 Limpopo cricket team, following the trials on 8 and 9 October in Polokwane. The Limpopo team will compete in the national tournament in Bloemfontein during the December holidays.

Elmé Louw, krieketspeler van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt, is die enigste O/16-meisiespeler wat erekleure vir krieket ontvang. Elmé ontvang haar erekleure tydens die skool se deurlopende toekennings op 17 Oktober.

Die Louis Trichardt 4x4-klub het die afgelope naweek hul 4x4 Gruisgat-uitdaging aangebied. In die foto verskyn van die baanbeamptes en wenners. Die nuwe wêreldkampioen in boogskiet is ‘n Soutpansberger!

Pieter Leonard van Louis Trichardt is die beste boogskutter in die AMBL (Adult Male Bowhunter Limited)klas in die wêreld, nadat hy goud losgeskiet het tydens die Wêreld Binnens huise Boogskietkompetisie wat vanaf 3 tot 7 Oktober by die UP sportsaal in Pretoria aangebied is. Met sy gemiddelde punt van 286 uit ‘n moontlike 300 het hy met al die skuts in die “beperkte” klas afgereken. Die beperkte klas beteken dat die skut slegs die vingers gebruik. In die onbeperkte klas word daar met snellers en te l e skope geskiet. Altesaam 260 skuts uit 14 lande het aan die kompetisie deelgeneem.

In September vanjaar is Pieter as Afrikakampioen in sy boogskietklas gekroon. Hy skiet al sowat 20 jaar en het reeds in 1997 ‘n silwer medalje verwerf in ‘n wêreld skietkompetisie wat op die plaas Muthamba buite Louis Trichardt gehou is. Na ‘n stil periode waarin hy nie mededingend deelgeneem het nie, het Pieter in 2009 verras deur ‘n nuwe SuidAfrikaanse rekord op te stel. Hy is ook gekies vir die Proteaspan wat in 2010 in Duitsland gaan skiet het, waar hy ’n silwer medalje gewen het.

Eggenote Christelle bewonder Pieter se deursettingsvermoë en vasbyt met min oefentyd tot sy beskikking. “Maar dit is sy goeie sportmangees wat my die meeste tref,” sê Christelle.

Pieter het ook ‘n passie om jongmense te leer skiet. Sy tienerdogter, Gerda, was in 2009 en 2010 SuidAfrikaanse kampioen in haar klas.

Nog al die jare skiet Pieter met ‘n Hoytkragboog, wat hy stabiel en betroubaar vind. Nou is hy egter lus vir ‘n nuwe uitdaging.

“Ek dink ek is nou klaar kragboog geskiet. Ek wil nou die tradisionele lang

boog aanpak,” sê Pieter. Dit is ‘n gewone

b o o g m e t

geen hulpmiddels nie daar is dit slegs die skut se vingers, die

boog, snaar en pyl. Daar word gesê dat die langboogskuts baie geduldige

mense is. “Ek moet sê, boogskiet het my ook rustiger gemaak en

geleer om kalm te bly,” sê Pieter.

Boogskutter Pieter Leonard is die nuwe wêreldkampioen in die AMBL (Adult Male Bowhunter Limited)-klas.
