Several gunshots shattered the tranquillity of a local residential area that was just about to settle in for a quiet Monday evening.

An assailant had forced his way into the Makhado (Louis Trichardt) home of Ms Darlene Madiba (34) in Duiker Street, gunning her and a male friend down in cold blood. The friend was later identified as Mr Victor Mthokozisi Radebe (36), well-known as the assistant manager of Louis Trichardt Spar.

The inc iden t happened around 18:30. Neighbours recall hearing sev-en shots and seeing the suspect fl ee the scene in a vehicle at high speed.

The Makhado Police confirmed that Radebe and Madiba were seated in the lounge, watching television, when they were attacked. “The suspect went straight to where the victims were relaxing, watching TV, after which an argu-ment ensued and the suspect took out a 9mm pistol and fi red shots at them,” said police spokesperson Const Irene Radzilane.

A bullet reportedly hit Radebe in the chest and he was already dead when neighbours rushed to the scene.

He was slumped on the coach. Five bullets pierced Madiba’s body. She was lying in a pool of blood on the fl oor, miraculously still breathing. One of her neighbours, a doctor, tried to stabilize her but she later also passed away on the scene.

The Makhado police were quick to respond. They immediately launched a manhunt for the suspect. Later that same evening, the police managed to track down the vehicle in which the shooter had fl ed, near Vivo. The

suspect himself was apprehended on Tues-day. The man was arrested and had yet to appear in court by the time of our going to press.

The suspect was allegedly known to Madiba. According to friends and neigh-bours, the shooter was her ex-boyfriend and

she was in the process of obtaining a protection order against him. This after the man had allegedly assaulted Madiba, tying her up and beating her.

In the meantime, friends, family and work colleagues of Radebe were devastated to hear about his death. He had been working at the local Spar for more than 12 years. Funeral arrange-ments had yet to be fi nalized for him and Madiba at the time of our going to press as most of their families are either from Gauteng or Polokwane.

“Om by CrossFit geaffi lieer te wees, behels die doen van ‘n kursus en die voldoening aan CrossFit se kwalifi serende standaarde. Die affi liasie moet elke jaar hernu word. Dit gee mense die gemoedsrus dat hulle CrossFit boks aan die nodige standaarde voldoen,” sê CrossFit instrukteur Felix Malan.

CrossFit behels intensiewe oefeninge. Wat intensiteit betref, bepaal ‘n persoon se ouderdom, liggaamstoestand en mediese toestand die in-tensiteit. “Omdat daar heeltyd verandering is, bereik die lig-gaam nie ‘n plato nie,” sê Felix.

In the midst of the controversy surrounding the largely unpopular etolling system of SANRAL (South African National Roads Agency Limited), the agency has shown its willingness to deliver on the mandate to manage the N1 roads and repair potholes.

On 28 September, some huge potholes were photographed just north of the Baobab toll plaza on the N1 between Makhado (Louis Trichardt) and Musina. By 5 Octo-ber, they had been repaired.

“SANRAL has a ‘48-hour turn-around’ time from the reporting to repair of a pothole on national roads. It is this quick turnaround, among other factors, that keeps South Africa’s national roads in top condition,” said SANRAL’s project manager, Mr Vusi Mona. Motorists may have noticed the progress on the pothole repairs on the stretch between the Hendrik Verwoerd tunnels and Musina. “But it was really bad,” said one driver.

The unfairness of paying toll and having to drive on pothole-infested roads is a frustration to many a motorist. The huge potholes near the Baobab toll plaza were some of those really frustrating ones, because of the possibility of vehicle damage and the fact that money had just been forked out to pay toll.

The Baobab toll plaza is managed by SANRAL and the toll fees are utilised for road maintenance on the N1. The agency manages 59%

of the 3 120km of toll roads in the country.

SANRAL was asked what the cost was to repair a big pothole of half a meter in diameter. No approx-imate amount was given as Muna said that the cost of repairing pot-holes varied, and size was but one determining factor. “We spend bil-lions annually on road maintenance, which includes major road works, periodic and routine maintenance work, improvements and repairing of defects, cracks and structural damage to road. The agency is also responsible for non-pavement work on the national road, such as vegetation control, road sign repairs and the clearing of side drains and culverts,” Muna said. The public may notify SANRAL of potholes on the national roads.

Drivers on the N1 were assured that damages may be claimed if a vehicle’s tyre should indeed be damaged as a result of a pothole on a SANRAL road. In order to submit a claim, it goes without saying that the damage has to be evident and substantiated. Extensive details have to be provided, including de-tails of the owner of the vehicle, of the driver and his driver’s license, of the incident and of the damage, with photographic evidence and three repair quotations. No du-plicate claims may be handed in, therefore the vehicle owner has to claim either from SANRAL or from his insurer.

‘n Ietermagog mag dalk klein wees, maar is baie meer werd as ‘n renoster.

Dit het die 36-jarige Mulalo Victor Ratombo van Thohoyandou verlede Woensdag eerstehands uitgevind. Die Makhado Polisie se K9 honde-een-heid het hom vasgetrek, nadat hy daarvan verdink is dat hy gesteelde goedere in sy bakkie vervoer het. Agter op sy bakkie, toegemaak in ‘n meelsak, het die polisie die skaam-skubbige, en uiters skaars, soogdier ontdek.

Daar word vermoed dat Ratombo die ieterm-agog probeer smous het hier in Makhado (Louis Trichardt).

Ratombo is op die plek gearresteer en die ietermagog is by hom gekonfiskeer. Voor die ietermagog vrygelaat is, het die plaaslike Dierebe-skermingsvereninging (DBV) dit na die Zoutpans-berger se kantoor gebring vir ‘n vinnige foto. In daardie stadium was die ietermagog al vir die hele dag lank in die warm son, en baie getraumatiseerd. Plaaslike DBV diere-inspekteur mnr. Lawrence Khodobo het later bevestig dat die ietermagog op ‘n natuurreservaat vrygelaat is. Dit was vir hom, in al sy jare by die DBV, die eerste keer wat hy ‘n ieter magog moes red.

Buiten dat ietermagogs baie skaars is, is hulle ook meer bedreig as renosters. Die waarde van

Die leerlinge wat vroeër vanjaar vasgetrek is vir dwelmgebruik tydens ‘n blitsklopjag by Hoërskool Louis Trichardt, meen dit was die beste ding wat ooit met hulle kon gebeur het.

Dié leerlinge het verlede Vry-dag weer in die Louis Trichardt Distrikshof verskyn, waar die klagte van die onwettige besit van narkotika teen hulle terug-getrek is. Altesaam 14 kinders is aangekla, nadat hulle op 25 Julie tydens die klopjag positief getoets het vir dwelms. Nog ‘n leerling is gearresteer, nie omdat hy positief getoets het vir dwelms nie, maar omdat ‘n knipmes in sy besit gevind is. Al die leerlinge moes ‘n afwentel-

ingsprogram voltooi, sodat die klagte teen hulle teruggetrek kon word.

Die afwentelingsprogram is ‘n program waarin die kinders hulp van ‘n maatskaplike wer-ker ontvang oor hoe om sosiale druk te hanteer en hulle attent gemaak word op die gevaar wat dwelms inhou.

Dié straf is voorgestel, sodat die kinders nie ‘n kriminele rekord sal hê wat hul mag knie-halter ná skool nie. Die leerlinge se ouderdomme het gewissel tussen 15 en 18 jaar. Hulle sal ook, indien daar weer ‘n klop-jag by die skool is, outomaties gevra word om ‘n dwelmtoets te ondergaan.

Die Zoutpansberger het ver-

neem dat van die leerlinge wat die program voltooi het, aanged-ui het dat hulle selfs bereid is om met hulle klasmaats te praat en aan te moedig om nie dwelms te gebruik nie.

Tydens Vrydag se hofverrig-tinge is 14 van die 15 leerlinge se sake teen hulle teruggetrek. Een meerderjarige leerling, wat van plan is om onskuldig te pleit op die klag, se saak is uitgestel. Die Staat het aangedui dat hulle wag op die laboratoriumuitslae van ‘n bloedmonster wat by die leerling geneem is kort ná die dwelmtoets by die skool.

Die leerling sal weer op 16 Oktober in die hof verskyn, sodat ‘n verhoordatum vasgestel kan word.

‘n ietermagog, op die swartmark, word geskat op sowat R150 000. ‘n Ietermagog word ook, so ver moontlik, lewendig verkoop of gesmokkel.

Plaaslik word daar onder meer geglo as ‘n per-soon ‘n ietermagog doodmaak en eet, dit sal kom reën. Die harde skubbe hou ook baie muti-waarde in. Dit kan blykbaar ‘n persoon beskerm teen hek-sery. In Asiatiese lande soos China en Indonesië is ietermagogvleis baie gewild en word daar baie geld betaal vir ‘n lewendig een. Sommige Chinese glo ook dat die skubbe van die ietermagog medisinale eienskappe het en dat dit byvoorbeeld kan help met swak bloedsomloop.

Die Wêreldbewaringsunie (WBU) het in Julie vanjaar aangekondig dat die agt ietermagogspesies wêreldwyd nou as kwesbaar op die rooidatalys aangetoon is. Volgens prof. Ray Jansen van die departement van omgewing-, water-, en aardweten-skappe aan die Tshwane Universiteit van Tegno-logie (TUT) beteken dit die ietermagog is op die rand van uitwissing. Jansen, wat ook betrokke is by die bewaringsinstansie Afrika Ietermagogw-erksgroep, het gesê dat, in terme van Limpopo se bewaringswette, die ietermagog gelys is as ‘n spesiaal beskermde dier.

Volgens die WBU se webblad is die ietermagog ook die mees gestroopte dier, selfs meer as olifante en renosters, in die wêreld - ‘n feit waarvan Ratom-bo nie bewus was nie. Hy het Maandag ‘n borg-aansoek gebring in die Louis Trichardt Streeks hof, nadat hy die naweek agter tralies spandeer het.

Ratombo se verweer was dat hy nie geweet het dis onwettig om ‘n ietermagog te besit nie. Ratom-bo het tydens sy borgaansoek vir die hof gesê hy het nie doelbewus gepoog het om die ietermagog te vang nie. Volgens hom het hy die dier in die veld gesien, opgetel en besluit om as troeteldier aan te hou. Ratombo het aangedui dat hy sy eie verdedi ging sal hanteer, en sal weer op 6 November in die hof moet verskyn vir verhoor. Hy is op R1 000 borg vrygelaat.



The Agapé African Choir from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) had the experience of a lifetime during their three nation tour from 19 September to 5 October.

They made a unique impact, while doors opened in more than one way. “We had people come up to us and say things like, ‘It made me happy just to look at you.’ Who would’ve thought that a choir from our little town could touch hearts on the other side of the world? I came to the humbling realiza-tion that we actually do have something to offer to the nations of the world. Beyond the sound of Africa, it was the joy and liberty of being African, standing together as mixed races and cultures, and people of all ages that truly touched the hearts of people in Indonesia, South Korea and Malaysia. We stood amazed at what our great God did. All the glory and honour be unto Him!” said Pastor Grant Clifton, the choir director, on returning.

The first stop on the choir’s hectic ministering schedule was in Jakarta, Indonesia. “The traffic is incredible, but the respect people have for each other is evident in the way you can walk into four lanes of peak hour traffic, with your hand raised, and every car and motorbike (of which there must be a million on the road!) just stop for you to cross over, no hooting nor fists waving. The people of the City Vision church in Jakarta, which hosted us, have such overwhelmingly serving hearts. We had a fantastic time performing our show the Saturday and then worshipping on the Sunday with the church,” said choir member Mark Archer.

In Seoul, South Korea, the choir was amazed to see absolutely no litter in the streets and experience that everything was organized and perfectly on time. An unexpected door opened when their host,

Nowon Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea, informed Past Sam van Niekerk of Agapé Christian Centre that they would send a five-member delega-tion on a fact-finding mission to the Agapé Church this year. Nowon is a church of 40 000 members.

In Seoul, the choir had six ministering oppor-tunities. “When our choir sang Amazing Grace together with the Nowon youth choir, the blending of the young South Korean voices and ours was incredible. Another major highlight was when we were taken to the prayer mountain in Seoul, a Christian retreat dedicated to intensified prayer and fasting by Christians. The auditorium on that mountain seats 10 000 people. The prayer caves, where individuals can retreat to fast and pray, were an eye opener to how much South Koreans believe in the power of prayer. When they start praying, you feel the presence of God flowing,” said choir member Bev Dube. From Seoul, the choir departed for Kota Kinabalu (KK) in East Malaysia, where they were hosted by the Glory Christian Centre (GCC) of Dr Willam Vun.

For Pastor Sam, a multi-racial choir was a dream that he had cherished in his heart since 1983. He never imagined what impact this choir would have on other nations. “We had some flash mob perfor-mances, but the flash mob in the KK city mall was the highlight of the tour for me. After the flash mob, people who had never been to GCC arrived there for our performances. Our last performance drew a full house of 2500 people. Dr Vun said that the choir had opened a door for GCC to the city that had been shut before,” Past Sam said.

The Agapé African Choir at Nowon Full Gospel Church in Seoul, South Korea. An unexpected door opened when the Nowon church informed Past Sam van Niekerk of Agapé Christian Centre that they will send a fivemember delegation on a factfinding mission to his church in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) this year. Nowon is a church of 40 000 members.

Buiten vir die twee klagte van moord waarop hy skuldig bevind is, is Smail ook skuldig bevind aan twee klagte van po-

ging tot moord.Smail het in Desember 2009,

net voor die skietvoorval, ge-dreig om vir Joachim, Buys en hulle vriende, Levit Harris en Dominique Buys, te skiet. Buys het getuig dat hy daarvan oortuig was dat hulle by sy onderneming, Smails Foun-tain op Buysdorp, by verskeie geleenthede ingebreek het. Sy verweer was dat hy Joachim se groep gekonfronteer het, maar nie bedoel het om hulle te skiet nie. Smail het getuig dat hy blindelings skote afgevuur het, nadat een van die mans (hy kon nie presies onthou wie nie) gebuk het, en hy gedink het die man buk vir ‘n wapen. Sergio is in die kop getref en Joachim in die bolyf. Harris en Dominique het ontsnap.

Ná die skietvoorval het Smail homself aan die polisie oorgegee en sy vuurwapen ingehandig. Smail het ook ‘n mediese ver-klaring ingedien, waarin hy die hof probeer oortuig het dat hy nie by sy volle verstand was tydens die skietvoorval nie.

Voor die skietery, het die mans se ouers getuig, is hulle persoonlik deur Smail gewaar-sku dat hy die gereg in eie hande sal neem as hulle kinders nie ophou om sy besigheid te plun-der nie. Smail het vir die ouers gesê hy is moeg gepraat met die mans, en dat die polisie hom nie meer wil help nie.

Landdros Pat Cloete het, buiten dat hy Smail se getuienis as ongeloofwaardig bestempel het, ook gesê dat dit vir hom voorgekom het of Smail se ge-tuienis vooraf beplan en opgesê is. Cloete het ook bevind dat Smail die ouers en gemeenskap se getuienis probeer afmaak het, en die hof probeer oorreed het om eerder op sy geestestoestand te fokus.

Smail se aansoek om sy borg tot en met sy vonnisoplegging te verleng, is deur Cloete van die hand gewys. Cloete het aanged-ui dat Smail gevangenisstraf in die gesig staar en dat hy solank ‘n deel daarvan kan begin uit-dien. Smail se vonnisoplegging vind op 6 Desember plaas.

Smail skuldig aan moord op twee mans

Die 66jarige Alexander Smail skuldig aan moord.

The Makhado local municipality has warned people to refrain from erecting sign boards with ‘racial’ utterances along the roads within its jurisdiction. This after a board was erected along the R522 road from Makhado (Louis Trichardt) to Vivo.

The municipal manager, Mr Isaac Mutshinyali, said the mu-nicipality was concerned about such boards, which apparently encourage racial discrimination and stereotyping. Although the person who erected the board could not immediately be identi-fied, the sign board was removed and replaced with a municipal board.

The board was rebuking mem-bers of the public, particularly motorists, to refrain from dump-ing filthy things along the road. The board reads: “Only an idiot and a baboon throws (sic) rubbish

out of a vehicle”.According to the municipal

Goldwell hosted a hair demonstration in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) on 8 September and it came with a pleasant surprise the presenting of an accolade for hair stylist Connie de Sousa of C Jay’s for third place in South Africa.

Henrico Terblanche, Gold-well’s representative, handed a glass trophy to Connie for third place in the Goldwell Colorzoom Challenge 14 in the global cre-ative colourist category for hair stylists with more than five years experience. Connie had interpret-ed the theme Reallusion (a fusion of reality and illusion, where what you see at first glance is not all there is) by using a bright and shiny turquoise and some yellow in triangular patterns on model Bets Jensen’s hair.

On 13 October, the worldwide winner for the Goldwell Color-zoom Challenge 14 in the global creative colourist category was announced in Berlin. Mr Hardy Tsai of Taiwan took gold and the silver winner was Ms Heidi-Hel-ena van den Berg of Pretoria, South Africa’s number one.

Ten years ago, the internation-al Goldwell Color Zoom event was also hosted in Berlin and Connie de Sousa was invited as a national winner. Since then, Connie has ended in the top five in the country to go to Spain in 2008, again in the top five to Las

Vegas in 2009, second in South Africa last year, when the event was in Los Angeles and third this year. Taki Mabobo of C Jay’s ended in the top five in the new talent colourist category this year and in 2011.

The occasion for the present-ing of Connie’s trophy was a demonstration on cut, colour and

up-styles presented at CJay’s to about 40 hairdressers from town, Tzaneen and Polokwane. Connie was responsible for the demo, while Goldwell educator Lisa Froneman gave a lecture and Christine Chuma of CJay’s gave a demonstration in Keratin treat-ment, which is used to reduce natural curls and frizz by half.

• AFRICAN BEAT PERFOR-MANCE The Agapé African Choir will do their second Makhado (Louis Trichardt) show this year on Friday, 24 October.

The show, entitled African Beat, is about liberty and good fun. This show is completely different from the African Dream performance that was hosted in September.

• HINDU COMMUNITY CELE-BRATE DIWALI Diwali, the Festival of Lights, will be celebrated by the local as well as the international Hindu community on 23 October this year.

During the festive period, fi recrackers will be discharged at the homes of members of the local Hindu community in Makhado.

The Festival of Lights signifi es the return of Ram to his kingdom, after 14 years of ban-ishment to the forest. In Excelsotoekennings is tydens Hoërskool Louis Trichardt se kwartaallikse prysuitdeling op 13 Oktober gemaak vir deelname aan olimpiades en vakverwante kompetisies. Voor is Daniel Coetzee, wat eerste erekleure vir Wiskunde Olimpiade ontvang. Agter is die leerlinge wat sertifikate vir olimpiades ontvang. Van links na regs is Danika Malan (Wiskunde Olimpiade) en Fulufhelo Bopape, Vusani Mudzwari en Blessing Phathela (al drie vir Rekeningkunde Olimpiade). Afwesig is Tanganedzani Magodi (Rekeningkunde Olimpiade) en Hennie Venter (eerste erekleure vir nasionale erkenning vir digkuns).

In ‘n tyd wat inwoners swaar gebuk gaan onder ‘n vlaag misdade, het die Soutpansberg Sakekamer en plaaslike Sektor Misdaadforum (SMF) gevra dat inwoners nie misleidende boodskappe versprei nie.

Sakekamer bestuurslid en SMF-voorsitter in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) mnr. Dirk Meissenheimer sê daar is tans baie e-posse en SMSe wat die rondte doen wat onbewustelik vrees en haat onder inwoners

aanwakker. Sy advies is om in die geloof ‘n standpunt te neem teen sulke boodskappe en dit nie aan te stuur nie.

“As Jesus Christus jou Ver-losser en Saligmaker is, is jy deel van ons en het nou ‘n taak,” sê Meissenheimer. Hy haal Esg 3:17 aan, wat lui: “Mens, ek het jou aangestel as ‘n wag vir Israel: Jy moet luister na wat Ek sê en hulle namens My waarsku.”

As wag, sê Meissenheimer, sluit ‘n Christen se pligte in om

nie sulke boodskappe aan te stuur nie, te bid vir kalmte, vergifnis en vryspraak tussen mense en teen wraak, geweld en rassisme. “Gelowiges moet ook bid vir ander gelowiges, asook vir die leierskap van Suid-Afrika om ‘n Damuskuspad-ervaring met God te hê, sodat Suid-Afrika sal ter-ugkeer na God en die land geseën kan word. Raak ‘n wagter op die mure van Suid-Afrika, medege-lowige,” was Meissenheimer se uitdaging.

“Moenie vrees en haat aanwakker nie”

Hartseer ná nuus van Hennie se skielike dood Die Soutpansberggemeenskap het die afgelope naweek met groot hartseer verneem van die skielike afsterwe van die welbekende mnr. Hennie Breytenbach.

Die 69-jarige Hennie het sowat drie weke gelede gegaan vir ‘n roetine mediese ondersoek. Tydens dié ondersoek het die kardioloog egter ernstige probleme met Hennie se hart geïdentifiseer en daar is besluit dat hy dadelik ‘n hartomleiding moes ondergaan. Hennie was sedert die operasie in die intensiewe eenheid van Die Wilgers Hospitaal in Pretoria, nadat hy ná die operasie longontsteking opgedoen het. Hy is Sondagmiddag net na twee-uur aan nierversaking oorlede. “Ons wil regtig vir die personeel van Die Wilgers Hospitaal bedank vir die mooi manier waarop hulle my pa behandel het. Hulle is absoluut ongelooflike mense,” het Hennie se seun, Henno, Dinsdag gesê.

Hennie, ‘n boorling van die Musina-omgewing, en sy gesin het in 1992 die Bosveld verruil vir die Lichtenburg-omgewing. In 2000 het hulle egter ter-uggekeer na die Bosveld met die koop van die plaas Coniston in die Waterpoort-omgewing. Hier het hy en sy familie aktief as besproeiingsboere geboer. Buiten vir sy bekendheid in boerderygeledere, het Hennie ook in die verlede talle sakebelange in Makhado (Louis Trichardt) gehad. Hy was ook vir lank ‘n baie aktiewe lid van die destydse Sout-

pansberg Kommando.Wyle Hennie word oorleef deur sy vrou Linda,

dogter Elnari, seun Henno en skoondogter Mari, dogter Lizel en skoonseun Ben Coetzer en drie kleinkinders (Marzel, HJ en Henko). Sy begraf-nisdiens vind eerskomende Vrydag, 17 Oktober, om 11:00 vanuit die NG Kerk Louis Trichardt-ge-meente plaas.

In Memoriam

Laaste vaarwel aan Attie Prinsloo (69)Vriende en familie het met hartseer afskeid geneem van mnr. Attie Prinsloo, wat op 18 September in die ouderdom van 69 oorlede is.

Gebore in Bethal op 23 Feb-ruarie 1945, het Attie sy skool-loopbaan by Hoërskool Louis Trichardt voltooi. Hierna was hy vir vyf jaar werksaam as ‘n instrukteur in die Staandemag in Potchefstroom. Hy verruil die weermag vir die Bosveld en boer vir 35 jaar lank in die destydse Rhodesië (Zimbabwe) met beeste en wild, voor hy terug verhuis na

Louis Trichardt.‘n Roudiens, gelei deur ds.

Jan Pretorius, is op Saterdag, 20 September, vanuit die NG Kerk Louis Trichardt-gemeente vir wyle Attie gehou. Hy word oorleef deur sy vrou Joey, dogter Alicia, skoonseun Deon en twee kleinkinders, JD en Déan.

Die familie bedank graag almal wat betrokke was voor en tydens Attie se afsterwe, maar in besonder vir mev. Kitty de Bruin en haar personeel van Ons Tuiste Ouetehuis vir hul ongelooflike bystand.

* Wees bedag op verdagte per-sone wat jou agtervolg.

Coreen Meiring van Hoërskool Louis Trichardt ontvang haar eerste erekleure vir kultuur tydens die skool se kwartaallikse prysuitdeling op 13 Oktober vir haar deelname aan die nasionale Eisteddfod.

The Way, the Truth and the Life

Matt 4:1-11

Jesus Christ came into the world to save sinners. How we should praise God for

that glorious work. Without Christ’s death upon that cursed cross no one would have been saved.

Satan decided to tempt Christ by offering Him an easy way to rule the kingdoms of the world. However, the easy way is not always the best way, as most of us know.

That easy way was not God’s way. God’s way was the cross by which He would save people and establish a world-wide kingdom. God’s way was the way of obedience.

Christ would never bow down to Satan!

We must remember this as far as Christian life is concerned. The Chris-tian life can be very diffi cult. Today we have people telling us that God will save everyone if they are sincere in what they do and believe. That is the easy way, but it is not God’s way.

Following Christ faithfully is the dif-fi cult way. Christ told His disciples they had to take up the cross and follow Him (Matt 10:28), which means that all who live the life of faith are to be obedient to Christ, exposing the sin of the world and calling people to repentance. It means becoming identifi ed with the humiliation and suffering of Christ.

The end of the way of the cross is heaven, eternal joy in the presence of God. The easy way can be very pleasant, but Proverbs 14:12 says: “There is a way that seems right to a man, but its end is the way of death.”

Which pathway are you following? I pray that you will follow the way of the cross, that is faith in Jesus Christ our Saviour, which leads to eternal life.

“Ek is nou miskien nie die skerpste potlood in die laai

nie, Bernard,” begin Daisy toe hulle sit en kyk hoe die son ondergaan teenaan die Soutpansberg. “Maar die vet weet, ek het darem ook lank genoeg my tyd uitgedien in die kor-poratiewe lewe.” Sy blaas behaaglik sigaretrook uit en vat ‘n slukkie van haar ‘gewone’.

“Hierdie Griekse kliënt van jou, Mr. Georgio Xanthides, bel my mos vandag. En so met grasie toegelaat vir sy Meditereense aksent, probeer ek maar uit die hoogtepunte van die gesprek uitmaak presies wat hy nou eintlik wil hê. Dis ook maar goed dat jy verduidelik het dat sy kosmaatskappy eksotiese kosse verskaf aan die gasvryheidsbedryf, want ek kon niks uitmaak van “you, I wanna you to come make ke zee nice wild buck for me, I wanna you to come runna zee kitchen...”

Bernard lag kliphard vir Daisy se nabootsing van die intimiderende man. “Daisy, ek het nou so bietjie nagedink oor die man se voorstel. Hy wil – so klink dit vir my – hê jy moet sy toetskombuis so bietjie onder hande neem; nuwe lewe in-

blaas en met vars idees kom. En ek kan dink dat dit vir jou baie stimulerend kan wees en selfs winsgewend.”

Daisy se oë blink. “Ek moet sê, die idee klink so bietjie soos Gordon Ramsay se Kitchen Nightmares! En jy weet ek kan nou eenmaal maar net nie ‘n makeover weerstaan nie...”

“Jy weet, Daise, ek sal mos nou nooit probeer om vir jou te vertel wat om te doen nie...”

“Maar natúúrlik nie, ou Barries! Nie ‘n ou skaaplammetjie soos jy nie...” terg Daisy.

“... veral nie ‘n formidabele vrou soos jy nie,” gaan Bernard aan asof hy nie vir Daisy gehoor het nie. “Maar ek het ‘n ander voorstel wat ek graag wil hê jy moet oorweeg.”

“Ek luister, ek luister... Maar jy moet mooi weet, dit sal regtig iets met meer woema en zing verg om my te laat afsien van die rol as ‘n vroulike Ramsay!”

“Wat ek gaan voorstel gaan ‘n hele paar voordele inhou vir jou: jy kan jou passie vir kosmaak uitleef, daar sal geen einde aan kreatiewe uitdagings wees nie en jy sal baie meer tyd hier op die plaas kan spandeer. Ek weet ons rondritsery is nie lekker vir jou nie, ek weet jy voel dat die plaas maar eintlik jou

huis is en dat die tyd wat ons in die stad spandeer gewoonlik nie vir jou ‘n plesier is nie.

“Wat sê jy? Sal jy darem met ‘n oop gemoed luister na my voor-stel?”

Daisy sit lank en staar na die rooie wat goud word en uiteindelik oorgee aan die vroegaand skemer. “Ek het nie gedink dis so opvallend nie, Bernard. En ek wil ook nie hê jy moet dink ek is ondankbaar vir al die wonderlike wedervarings saam met jou nie, maar ek is van nature maar ‘n eenvoudige mens ... So, ja – ek luister graag na jou voorstel.”

“Dis nou al ‘n hele ruk wat ek daaraan dink om die gastehuis in die berg beter aan te wend. Ek wil dit veral gebruik om minder die wêreld vol te reis, veral noudat jy in my lewe is. So iets soos as Mo-hammed nie na die berg wil gaan nie, dan bring ‘n mens nou maar die berg na Mohammed! Daar is soveel van my besigheidskontakte wat nog nooit Afrika beleef het nie; ek dink dit kan die geleentheid van ‘n leeftyd wees om hulle hier te onthaal. Daar was nog net nooit ie-mand wat na hulle kon omsien hier nie, maar nadat ek jou die naweek in aksie gesien het, weet ek dat selfs die heel belangrikste mense in

die beste moontlike hande sal wees as jy hier is.

“Die ander ding is dat daar soveel mense hier op die plaas is wat die potensiaal het om verder opgelei te word in die toerismebe-dryf. Dit sal die ideale geleentheid wees om daarin ook te belê. Jy kan met jou kennis en vernuf hulle oplei in enige aspek – van die kom-buis tot by ontvangs - en dalk som-mer ook om groente- en kruietuine te maak en onderhou. Ek weet jy het ook ‘n passie daarvoor om beter geleenthede vir mense te skep en hierdie kan regtig ‘n verskil maak in ‘n paar mense se lewens!

“Verder sal ek jou ook vrye teuels gee met die binneshuise ont-werp en met die kos en drank ... Jy kan dan soveel moerbeikonfyt en moerbeistroop op die spyskaart sit as wat jy wil! Eintlik kan ek my nie iemand beter indink vir die werk nie, Daisy! Toe, wat sê jy? Sal jy dit oorweeg?”

Met skitterende oë vlieg Daisy op en plak haar op Bernard se skoot neer. Sy gooi haar arms om sy nek en druk hom dat hy na sy asem snak.

“Dit is die heel, heel beste voor-stel wat ek gehoor het vandat jy my gevra het om by jou te kom intrek!”

“Is more te gou om te begin?”

Ná aanleiding van u berig oor die dorp se stortingsterreine (Zout-

pansberger van 10 Oktober), is dit dalk nou die aangewese geleentheid om bietjie die Makhado Munisipali-teit-prentjie in oënskou te neem en terselfdertyd ook sommerso ‘n stuk-kie van die breër Suid-Afrikaanse prentjie aan te haak.

Wat regering op provinsiale en plaaslike vlak aanbetref, lyk dit of die Wes-Kaap die enigste dowwe liggie is wat nog in die donker skyn, ten spyte van uiterste pogings en felle aanslae deur die ANC en geor-ganiseerde arbeid om ook dié bietjie stabiliteit in die land te vernietig. Die konstante stroom verskuiwing van veral blankes uit Louis Trich-ardt, Limpopo, Mpumalanga en Gauteng is stil getuienis van die Wes-Kaap se stabiliteit teenoor die vroeë “Kersfees” rooftogte wat hier alreeds aan die orde van die dag is.

Wat het gebeur in Louis Trichardt sedert “UHURU” in 1994?

Heel eerste het watervoorsie ning ‘n brandpunt geword wat sedert 1994 nog nie opgelos is nie en as jy nie ‘n opgaartenk op jou perseel het om water in te berg wanneer daar wel water is nie, trek jy aan die kortste ent van wan-munisipale-ef-fektiwiteit.

Die dorp se rioolstelsel het vir menige inwoners en besighede ‘n stinkende doring in die vlees ge-word, soveel so dat ‘n groot deel van die dorp water drink uit boor-gate waar gestorte riool ‘n deel van die aanvullingsbron van die gate is. Gaan kyk maar, die rioolwerke is grootliks buite werking. Dit was tot enkele jare gelede nog beskou as een van die mees effektiewe verw-erkingstelsels in die land.

Die dorp se strate het op enkele uitsonderings na ‘n toestand van spoedige totale verval gevorder. Plek-plek is die slaggate so groot

dat jy jou ouma daarin kan begrawe.Wat kan nog gesê word oor die

begraafplaas? Een van die duide-likste getuigskrifte van onbevoegd-heid, ongevoeligheid en disrespek teenoor die gestorwenes en die oorwegend blanke inwoners wie se naasbestaandes daar ter ruste gelê is. Maar as dit gaan oor ‘n grondeis is ‘n kruiwa klippe wat in dekades nooit besoek is genoeg om aanspraak te maak op die grond.

Munisipale fi nansies en menige inwoner se rekening verkeer in ‘n totale chaotiese toestand. Nog die plaaslike DA-lid, nog AfriForum of die Belastingbetalersvereniging is/was in staat om byvoorbeeld my waterrekeningprobleem van die afgelope twee jaar op te los. Mnr. Ronnie Rambau van die munisi-paliteit doen nie eens die moeite om na ‘n gesprek oor die probleem te luister nie of die ontvangs van e-posse te erken of te beantwoord nie. Die uitgesproke houding van die munisipaliteit oor dienslewe ring is dan ook, “as die inwoners nie tevrede is daarmee nie, vat jou goed en gee pad”.

Ongetwyfeld die kersie op die koek is dat die swakste munisipale bestuurder ooit, vandag as minister in die land se parlement die gemors verder voortsit. Spreek boekdele van die hoogste gesag.

Chaos heers al baie lank by die dorp se stortingsterrein. Klagtes oor die Vondelingterrein is legio. Beheer daar is so doeltreffend dat die inwoners van die dorp veral in die warm maande te kampe het met ‘n groot brommer-probleem in hul huise. Lekker resep vir vlieg-ge-draagde siektes. Uit die berig kan afgelei word dat Rietvly alreeds ‘n probleem is. Daar is natuurlik geen ordentlike beplanning oor ‘n geskik-te terrein gedoen nie en vermoedelik ook geen omgewings impakstudie

nie.Korrupsie en bedrog vier hoogty

onder die ANC-kaders vanaf die laagste vlak van regering tot in die hoogste kantoor van die nasiona-le regering. Dink maar net aan die kostes van die ongevraagde naams-verandering, en die korrupsie met betrekking tot die onlangse eien-domswaardasie debakel. (Wonder of die munisipaliteit pa sal staan vir die verskil in die verkoopsom as jy jou eiendom nie teen munisipale waardasie verkoop kan kry nie? Dit is dan mos die wettige markwaarde van die eiendom waarop jy geregtig is?)

Wat beteken dit alles? Terug-betaaltyd aan Beijing en Moskou vir hulle ondersteuning tydens die “struggle”? Elke moontlike en onmoontlike kommoditeit kom deesdae van China af waar goed-koop arbeid uitgebuit word en die regering sê niks, maar betaal arbeid ter plaatse net meer en meer om minder en minder te doen. Wat het geword van “Koop trots Suid-Af-rikaans”. Dit is verruil vir ‘n pot

lensiesop.Vergelyk Zuma se Nkandla met

Mugabe se paleis, die aanslag teen blanke SA -boere met die van Zim-babwe. Hou in gedagte die belaglike manipulering van die nasionale regering deur die georganiseerde arbeidsektor en die gepaardgaan-de toegewings net om die stem te behou. Die wettige marginalisering van die blanke op alle vlakke van die samelewing. Die toenemende wurggreep op alle aspekte van die land se fi nansies met die ge-paardgaande geleidelike onttrekking van buitelandse kapitaal en beleg-gings wat al hoe minder realiseer.

Gaan kyk gerus die huidige “Voetspore” program op televisie van die manne se reis al op die ewenaar langs. Wat u daar sien is Suid-Afrika se fi nale lot so 15 tot 20 jaar van nou af. ‘n Ernstige siek land met ‘n terminaal siek regering waarvan die eerste simptome reeds sigbaar wys.

“Dis ‘n deurmekaarspul!” het ‘n inwoner gesê nadat twee klein toegangstraatjies vanuit Kleynhansstraat deur die Makhado Munisipaliteit vir R200 000 elk gewaardeer is.

Mnr. Petrus van Niekerk en sy moeder, me. Anna van Nierkerk (70), bly al jare op familiegrond onder in Kleynhansstraat. Petrus se oupa, Piet van Niekerk, en sy pa se ouer suster, Hetta, het saam vyf erwe in Kleynhansstraat gekoop. Dit was in die jare vyftig.

Ná sy pa se dood in 2002 het Petrus en sy moed-er steeds op hulle gedeelte, wat twee burgererwe beslaan, aangebly. Tannie Hetta (me. H.P. van Niekerk), wat tans in Pretoria woon, het haar drie burgerwe in ongeveer 2000 aan Groep 10 van Rustenburg verkoop. Dié groep, wat skynbaar nie meer bestaan nie, het aansoek gedoen om die drie erwe te konsolideer en te ontwikkel.

Die Makhado Munisipaliteit het bevestig dat die konsolidasie van erwe 982, 984 en 986 tot erf 5086, asook dat die daaropvolgende onderverdeling daar-van, goedgekeur is tydens ‘n raadsvergade ring van 19 Oktober 1998. Die ontwikkelaar het vervolgens die grond herverdeel in 14 gedeeltes, waarvan die meeste vandag al bebou is.

Twee toegangstrate is goedgekeur en genoem gedeelte (4) en (11) van erf 5086. Die Raad het besluit dat, ná die onderverdeling, die ontwikke-laar die straatjies moet teer en dat die eienaarskap daarvan dan na die Raad terugkeer. Die twee strate is met sement uitgelê.

Die kontroversiële nuwe munisipale waardasie-rol het meer as een skok ingehou. Ma Anna se beboude erf is vir R1.3 miljoen gewaardeer en

die onbeboude gedeelte vir R1 miljoen. ‘n Latere verlaging was nog nie voldoende nie.

Die straatjies se rekeninge aan H.P. van Niekerk het al vir jare na tannie Anna en Petrus gekom. Dié toegangstrate het ‘n reusagtige toename in waar-dasie getoon. Voorheen is die straatjies gewaardeer vir R100 elk en nou is die waardasie R200 000. Hul maandelikse munisipale rekening is nou veel hoër met die hoër eiendomsbelasting. Die basiese elektrisiteit en basiese afvalverwydering is ook steeds daar en die uitstaande bedrae op die reke-nings vir die twee straatjies het al begin naderkruip na R30 000. “As my skoonsuster tot sterwe kom, gaan daardie bedrag van haar boedel verhaal word en wie gaan dit betaal? As die rekeninge vir hierdie eiendomme nie meer teen haar naam was nie, het ek my nie daaroor bekommer nie,” het tannie Anna gesê. Intussen is Petrus tydens sy vele besoeke aan die munisipaliteit van bakboord na stuurboord gestuur en moes hy die storie telkens verduidelik aan mense wat dit klaarblyklik nie verstaan nie. Met die Soutpansberg Belastingbetalersvereni ging (SBBV) se hulp het hy op 1 September by me. Dakalo Sinthumule (direkteur van ontwikkeling en beplanning) uitgekom en sy het die saak begryp en belowe om terugvoer te gee. Teen 3 Oktober het hy nog niks gehoor nie.

Die Makhado Munisipaliteit het verlede week op ‘n medianavraag erken dat dit nie korrek was dat die Raad heffings en belastings op die twee straatjies van H.P. van Niekerk vereis het nie. “Beide die rekeninge sal gesluit word,” het die munisipale woordvoerder, mnr. Louis Bobodi, gesê. Nou is dit wag en kyk vir die Van Niekerks.

Heffings is “nie korrek”

Hierdie straatjie, wat ‘n toegangsroete vanuit Kleynhansstraat verskaf, is deur die Makhado Munisipaliteit vir R200 000 gewaardeer en die rekening met eiendomsbelasting aan familie van die oorspronklike eienaar gestuur.

Nog ‘n straatjie wat vir R200 000 gewaardeer is. Die oorspronklike eienaar is deur die jare vir basiese dienste aangeslaan, hoewel die grond al omtrent 14 jaar gelede verkoop en daarna ontwikkel is. Hierdie straatjie is die verste af (suid) in Kleynhansstraat en verleen toegang tot huise aan die oostekant van die straat.

Wilhrisca is originally from Thohoyandou, but moved to Polokwane in August last year. She is currently a sales consultant at Canon Polokwane. She is also a Latin and ballroom teacher at Latin Rhythm Dance Academy in Polokwane.

Wilhrisca will participate in the National Pageant of Miss Mzantsi Africa that will take place in Cape Town in December 2014, where she will be representing Limpopo. This is a prestige pageant where only the provincial winners of Mzantsi Africa can participate. In her year of reign, Wilhrisca must organise fundraising events for the RoleModels Foundation and pageants across the

Northern Limpopo. She will also be visiting many businesses in Limpopo for the RoleModels Foundation Fundraising Campaign and residents are urged to support her.

Khoroni Hotel & Casino in Thohoyandou once again hosted a very successful 4x4-challenge on the weekend of 3 to 5 October. Annually, this 4x4 weekend proofs very popular, attracting entries from all over Limpopo. This year’s challenge was won by Team Mountain Inn, consisting of driver JJ van Zyl and navigator Dennis Schnehaage. The team who racked up the second most points consisted of Ron and Margaret Sparrow, with Gerrie van Zyl and George Janse van Rensburg coming in third. As the last quarter of 2014 begins, the South African National Blood Service (SANBS) has already been experiencing critical shortages over the recent weeks.

At a time when many people are focussed on their final exams or are hard at work to ensure they end their year with success, so little time is available for much else. However, the SANBS is hoping that donors who are due to donate, as well as other people who meet the minimum requirements, are able to find the time to make a difference to the lives of others and donate blood.

“We are grateful to the many who always

heed to our appeal for blood, but crises are often inevitable if donors are not available to donate,” says Vanessa Raju, communications manager at SANBS. “These crises often occur due to fewer Group O blood collections. Group O blood is known as the universal donor and can be given to patients of any other blood group, making it the most soughtafter blood type,” added Raju.

To become a blood donor, you need to be between the ages of 16 and 65, weigh more than 50kg, be in good health and lead a sexually safe lifestyle.

challenging than previous seasons, boasting a lot of single-track stretches, as well as tricky falls and climbs that required both stamina and technical skills from the riders. The lap-race format of the event saw the various age categories complete a specific number of laps, ranging from two laps for the sub-junior girls to a testing five laps for the junior men.

Points were awarded to the top 26 finishers in each race, with the total school scores based on the top five boys in the Boys Team category, top three girls in the Girls Team category, and three boys and two girls respectively in the Mixed Team category. According to Gauteng league co-ordina-tor Deon Steyn, it was the depth of the Menlopark team that secured them the top spot, proving that

all efforts count.The league was launched in 2009 as a joint

initiative between Spur and AMARIDER to create a fun racing environment for kids and has also facilitated the building of mountain bike tracks on school property and community grounds. Earlier this year, the league cemented its position as one of the leading sport development programmes in the country when it was shortlisted as a finalist for the 2014 Discovery Sport Industry Awards.

The Spur School Mountain Bike League final is also considered an interprovincial derby, with the top riders from each province selected to compete for their respective provinces.

Local riders up against fi erce competitionFollowing an exciting 2014 season, fi erce competition marked the national fi nals of the Spur High School Mountain Bike League that was hosted at Bekker School in Magaliesburg on 4 and 5 October.

Louis Trichardt High School was well represented at the fi nal, with a total num-ber of fi ve local high school riders forming part of the 13-riders Limpopo high school team. The fi ve local riders were Richard

Lambert, Douglas Archer (completing his year as rider for High School Louis Trich-ardt, although he now studies at Ridgeway College), Heine de Jager, Charne Labus-chagne and Turner de Swart.

A record number of 355 riders repre-senting the cream of high school mountain bike riders from 69 schools across South Africa, Namibia and Zimbabwe competed in the two-day event. Up against such fi erce competition, it was only Richard

Lambert who could secure a top-10 fi nish in his age group (sub junior), managing an eighth place.

The team from Menlopark High School was in top form and secured four podium positions, as well as logging a number of top-10 positions to secure both the girls and mixed team national championship trophies, while Grey College in Bloem-fontein won the boys team category. (Contd on P 17)
